Thank you for showing the grill supports! I've been looking on youtube for the past hour trying to find a video that showed the 67 grill support and how it mounts. I eventually gave up and clicked this video because it looked interesting and I was rewarded with the end of my quest xD
1969 GMC for me. My pop bought it new. I’m the caretaker of it now. I’m in the process of freshening it up to enjoy driving it until my time is finished.
I have the 69 with the billet grill for a while and temporary swapped it with the original grill but I kinda like the billet better so I might swap it back out soon . 1969 c20 with the 292 and standard transmission.
Grill is always a personal preference. There is no right or wrong, only what you yourself like. To me, the egg crate grills modernize the trucks too much towards the subsequent square bodies. I prefer the 67-68 and 69-70 grills.

67-68 is definitely my favorite...but what you may or may not know is that on the plain Jane trucks that had white painted headlight doors and grille opening moundings the parts were steel whereas the bright "chrome" trim parts were anodized aluminum. you don't see many trucks with white trim these days.
I have since learned about the base model grilles for 67-68. I am working on year specific videos about each model year starting with 67. I just pushed the 1st one out. Thanks for reaching out and for watching!
You are welcome! Swapping front grilles from 67-68 to 69-72 or the other way around will cause you to swap hoods, fenders, grilles and radiator supports unless you make your own alterations. Pretty much a front clip swap.
Can you swap a 70 GMC for a 70 Chevy grill without replacing fenders & Hood?... I know you need a new core support, latch & whatnot but I'm getting conflicting info regarding the fenders & hood....TIA!
Love your channel so glad I found it ….. I have a 69 c20 with a damage grille what years grille will bolt on without having to replace other parts just grille .?
I appreciate the support! You can use a 69-70 grille with no additional parts or changes. A 71-72 will also fit, but you will need to swap the center support bracket but that’s it.
I have a 69 with the 72 grill and was concerned why it was so difficult to pop the hood. Now I know I have the 69 hood release. How hard is it to change out ???
Not bad at all. Just a few bolts. Just make sure you have the right grille to hood latch support. You’ll know if the inner plastic grille bolts to it. Install the latch a little loose and fine tune it after you open and close it a couple times. Should be good!
I appreciate the video. I have a question regarding more detail of the black stripe on the 71-72 gmc version. Do you know if the black stripe was included on all trim levels of gmc 71-72 or specific trim levels. And I always thought the black stripe was specific to 72 only. I have had several gmc 70-72 over the years. But they’re so far removed from being new and original that I couldn’t tell what was “year correct”. In example I recently learned the gmc tailgate I still have off my first truck. A 1971 gmc. Is actually an original from 1967-68 (small lettered gmc) Just curious more detail on that 71-72 gmc if there is any more detail to the options
Thanks for the support. The stripe was included on all 71-72s. Most of them wear off over the years. I have a 71 1500 and it has it as well. Not to say that GM didn’t have some left over 69-70 grilles that ended up in 71s. As for the tailgate, you are correct. 67-68 were the small letters. They are actually year specific as well. I have a tailgate video I need to make soon and will go through all the details on them.

Great video! Working on a 72 gmc and want the whole grille powder coat black. My top filler piece is In good condition but the grille itself is shot. Can the filler piece be removed safely? Looks like it is riveted to the grille. Thanks!

No, they all won’t interchange. Yours will work out with minor changes. 67 and 68 grilles can swap because the hoods and fenders were the same. You might be able to get away with using the GMC hood latch since it’s offset, but not for sure. If not you will need a Chevy hood latch and 67-68 grille support in the middle that the hood latch mounts to. You will also have a dual headlight core support in the gmc. You might have to pop off the inner headlight buckets for clearance or swap to a Chevy core support. I would remove the buckets and save money.
