Depends on their passive etc but think of it as % of the characters total defense: If a character has 7000 defense on their card and on your team they have 100k defense. Then with an equip level 5, they will have 7500 compared to 7000 and 107k in game.
Well no that was an example, for example let’s say the unit has 200% defense and their start of turn defense is 200k. Then a level 5 defense would be 200k into 215k

Btw you can replace ex orbs with ex orbs to get "infinite equips"
yes this is true although it just depends how many teams you actively run at a time, but this is good advice

they are replacing chain battle with other ways to obtain the rewards so do not panic too much my brother
