  • Belly of The Beast is a media outlet that counters parachute journalism by providing stories directly from the island.
The documentary series, The War on Cuba, gives an inside look on the effects of U.S. sanctions on Cuban people. Episode 3 explores Cuba's healthcare program and medical brigades. We talk to doctors who served in Brazil, Bolivia and Italy, and of course the ones who held it down in Cuba during COVID-19.

After 9 trips as a photographer, I have fallen in love with Cuba and her people. I found them to be the kindest, most generous and preservering individuals that I have ever met. Their sad plight is without doubt or question the direct result of the inhumane blockade imposed by the US. This documentary is the best one I've seen in addressing the situation. If we Americans don't start looking past our noses and don't stop being manipulated by the disgruntled Miami Cubans, we will be dealing with another " Cuban Missile Crisis" in the future this time facing off with the Chinese who are establishing footholds throughout the Americas including Cuba.

The USA is almost Capitalism distilled, everyone's on their own, family and friends mean nothing, and any act of kindness is seen in American society as weakness. Americans also believe in a nasty Christian heresy called Calvinism which says those who are going to heaven are pre-selected. How can you tell which people they are? They're rich! No shit they really believe that. I don't think more than 1 out of 10 professed Christians here in the evil empire actually reads the bible like they're supposed to. Oh and they hate Catholics here too. Why? Because for all its faults Catholicism teaches charity and kindness and there's nothing in it about a tiny elite only going to heaven.

America is not perfect, there are many problems but the overwhelming majority of people who play by the rules find progress, and yes, you sacrifice culture, family and traditions but you gain freedom, security and peace, that is the reason millions risk life and limb to arrive in our shores. I've met people who were treated by Cuban doctors and all of them said the same: they received the best treatment, no Brazilian doctor has ever given them so much care and attention as have Cuban doctors. When Cuban doctors arrived here, they had a shameful reception by the medical organizations. They carried out a horrible campaign with the media to discredit doctors who came to do what they should be doing. Doctors in Brazil come from high middle class, most of them are white and they simply hate to be in contact with black and poor people. So this documentary is nothing but the true.

Question. I honestly ask this, if the U.S. lifted its embargo on Cuba, would Cuba still be a Marxist Leninist and Socialist state? I'm saying this as a friend of Cuba. Obviously it's up to the people of Cuba to decide what system of politics/economy they want. But I personally would not want to see Cuba give up its Socialist economy and government even after the embargo was lifted or downgrade its relations with its two greatest friends Russia and China. I would rather see Cuba reform it like Vietnam and China did so that Cuba will become even more richer and prosperous than it is now. Cuba has the potential to be a Latin American superpower if it's resources and talent are harnessed to the full. Anyway thanks for the video and.. Viva Cuba Libre!

Nobody wonders what the Cuban government do with those doctors that abandon those missions. Many find the opportunity to flee Cuba oppression through those internationalist mission of Cuba. People have no idea how little those doctors get pay by the fascist Cuban Revolution and the effort and hard work they have to make to achieve their carries diplomas. If someone flee one of those mission the Cuban government ban them from the country and they aren’t able to see their relatives again and those who get deported back to Cuba aren’t allowed to work as doctors never again. That is the story that the fascist Cuban Revolution don’t tell you.

They receive 25%. Over there the mentality is national pride and the love of helping people. Their motives are to help, not milk everything in sight or judge. Doesn't Cuba have a lung cancer vaccine or something? Cuz their am is to cure, not treat and milk the system.

Unfortunately the current state of the United States with its racist and discriminatory practices id damaging to everyone in the world; however, under President Joe Biden I hope that we can pickup where President Obama left off. Long live the Cuban People. Please Keep doing what you are doing.

Cuban doctors are just being exploited by the government that get pay by other countries to send those doctors to their countries. Behind the Cuban doctors and medicine is an industry of human exploration and money laundering. And believe me is more interesting to know than what this documentary tells. Cuban is exploiting their doctors in front of the world nose and no body knows what really happen even with those who desert those missions, many wouldn’t even see their relatives again.
