Not the most technically gifted dj (he didn't have speed, skill or was flawless) but Red was raw and every show, 45:30 there were a half dozen flashes of brilliance for a minute or so each when he'd catch the groove and the "DJ Red Alert Mastermix call sign" would come in.
When you're one of the hottest radio mix DJ'S in NYC and the world with artists clamoring for their records to premier on your show, you don't have to be a flamboyant DJ with a million tricks. Everyone back then was checking for Red Alert on the radio and artists, labels and record executives all needed Red's stamp of approval by way of his mix show.
