I just purchased one of those in metalic black. I have always played acoustic and classic guitars. So, at 71 years of age, I bought my first electric. I wanted something affordable. I could not justify paying a couple thousand dollars on an electric guitar if I decided I will stick to acoustic and classical. I should add, my guitar has the humbucker pickups on the bridge.
Great review. You played so many different styles of music so just about everyone can see how it will work for them. I think a Roller String Tree would lend it self well to one of these. The machine heads are decent but most likely will need to be changed after a year or so. I'd recommend Wilkinson's locking tuners for a replacement. They're under $40.00 and they have one hell of a reputation for quality at a low price. Thanks for your playing and insight. Thumbs up from me.. Peace Joe
My squire sonic strat I got a couple months ago direct from Fender says made in Indonesia. Not sure if that’s better then China. But just something to note. For the price it’s bad ass. Cool guitar to learn on and mod without breaking the bank
Very good video, thoroughly enjoyed the guitar playing as well as one of my favourite channels sometimes goes a bit over the top with their playing with a “beginner” guitar. Your demos really inspired me as I could see myself playing those riffs!
Thanks! That was just an overdrive effect from Logic Pro X (Royal Rock preset). There's a little bit of buzzing but to be honest I've seen worse guitars, I'm sure it can all be fixed after a regular setup
@@kiksterfly Buy a fret rocker…it’s a cheap metal tool with flat sides you put on 3 frets at a time. You then see if the middle fret rocks out of the(any) 3 you set the tool on. Then you can buy a fret file kit. it has one tool that files down the fret (a little at a time!), and another tool that reshapes the fret back to it’s roundness. It usually comes with a thin metal shield you put around the fret so you don’t ruin the fret board. Go slow and carefully!
@@kiksterfly oh yeah, the other way to fix fret buzz is to adjust your truss rod. If upper frets buzz, you loosen the rod a little at a time. if lower frets buzz, tighten the rod a little. In the end, hold down the low E string at 1st and last fret and make sure there’s a small gap at the 7th fret. That is optimal neck relief. You can also raise your action at the bridge.
This is a very sweet-sounding guitar (the player's skills bring out those stellar tones). I briefly held a Sonic Strat a few months ago while a friend of mine was shopping for a new electric guitar. It had such a invitingly playable neck profile. I still think about it to this day and I keep thinking about buying one, even though I already have a Strat (Fender MIM) that is no longer my main guitar.
Love mine. I highly reccomend picking them up in store so you can get a feel for the frets. Some are better than others so I wouldnt order them online. Great guitar!
Does it stay in tune well enough? I wanted a hardtail but my local shop has none left, does the tremolo Strat stay in tune when you're not using the trem?
I no longer have it with me but yeah, from what I remember the tuning stability was really good! If you're not using the tremolo then you have nothing to worry about
Hello ! I love this video, it's been very helpful as I try to find my first guitar. I love the sounds of the 'indie tones' and I was wondering if it would be possible to replicate it on the HSS version ?
Hi, thanks for the video - do you know if the body has space for adding a humbucker in the bridge to replace the single coil (effectively making it HSS)?
Distortion Pedal. If you mean the more Metal sound / Hard rock sound. Pretty similar, except for a knob on an amp, or pedal called gain. That being said, do not buy an amp yet. There are so many good plugins for your computer if it is decent. Will get you the exact tone, regardless of guitar. Also, for more purest guitar + amp, a strat isn't the one you really want, unless it has the humbucker (Think pick up you find on it) vs the three single coil ones. Also - against what the OP said, the new squires can 100% be used for recording and professional work. Coming all the way back to what you mentioned, that is the clean sound - not accoustic. The gain, distortion and the like is the metal hard rock sound you hear.
I'm pretty sure those are on the guitar since he's doing a review of the guitar and not really any amp, but I'm not sure, I'm most likely going to buy one in the next few weeks if I find anything I'll update you here
Thank you! I used the Focusrite Solo interface for that video, but I have to say that this guitar sounds awesome with tube amps too (I tried VOX AC30 and Fender Hot Rod Deluxe IV).
@@victormaskell8119 Are you referring to the bridge plate? These are usually 2" 3/16 or 2" 1/8 from the outer strings - one string to the other. Is this spacing what you're referring to?
Squier Sonic Stratocaster HSS Limited-Edition Electric Guitar 2-Color Sunburst i love it just changed the strings and tuners, sounds as good as my american made strat andi use it to record hard rock with, plus all my foot pedal switches, cant tell it apart from a 3000 dollar guitar
I love my one from full wide open screaming feedback dive bombs to the shadows songs and everything in between doesn't sound as good as a telli in drop d
Sounds good but i still would like to ask if its suitable for things like Megadeth, Slayer, Malmsteen and so on :) I apologize if my question may sound silly.
No problem, there are no silly questions :)! IMO if you like that kind of heavier music then it would be best to find a guitar with humbuckers rather than single-coils. Malmsteen plays on a Strat though so it's definitely possible!
Fender adds these tags to all their guitars as far as I know. Here's some more info according to their website. • California’s Proposition 65 entitles California consumers to special warnings for products that contain ingredients known to the state of California to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm if those products expose consumers to such chemicals above certain threshold levels. • These chemicals may be of no significant risk to you, but we care about consumer safety and place this warning on products and on our website to help our California customers make informed purchasing decisions. • A California Proposition 65 warning label does not mean the product is in violation of any product-safety standards or requirements.
These are a slightly taller than the vintage fret wire that Fender has offered on their guitars in the past. It's called vintage-high fret wire where the frets are the same width but slightly higher. Meaning that they don't have the width of jumbo wire and have a slight but noticeable feel to them. The lower your action the less this seems to be of a problem getting used to. These are great guitars for the money and any mods to them is always an improvement.

Awesome!! How do you like that humbucker?
Great video. for those who wondering what's the song at the start, it's The Night We Met by Lord Huron
Brilliant playing thanks bro. Great review, just got one of these, started learning acoustic 6 months ago but fancied adding some electric as well.
Came her for the review , stayed for the sound demo. Wonderful playing!!

I'm considering buying one of these as to replace my mexican Fender due to intonation issues... do you think this one will stay in tune?
it should be okay! mine was exceptionally good but I also heard that some people had issues with the factory setup so it's tough to predict it
