Thank you so much for everyone who has taken the time to listen and provide such lovely feedback! Let us know below if you are running this year? Or what has your previous NYC Marathon experience been like? We'd love to hear! Run safe! Meg x
You're so welcome, Ben! Thank you so much for taking the time and energy to listen and leave such a thoughtful comment! How did NYC Marathon go? So happy you got to have that epic experience! ☺
@benstevens1718 Love to hear that Ben!! Plenty for you to get excited about in 2024 and lots of time to start building a really strong foundation for your training 💪
Aww thank you so much for taking the time and energy to listen and leave such a sweet message, Catharine! Ahh that is so incredibly exciting. You’ll never forget your 1st marathon and to have NYC as yours is just wow! Best of luck this Sunday. Just soak it all in, use the hills to catch your breath and soak it all in. Please send me a message to let me know how it went! 💛🗽
Love these!!!...................Thanks Meg and Yimmy! I did 2022.... Hot, Humid and horribly logistically and tiring to get to start. I DREAD to think what the wait would be like if it was cold, raining and windy!! :( ABSOLUTELY LOVED the race strangely, as I had a hamstring issue, which forced me to Jeff it.... but ultimately, It allowed me to have a better experience than it may have turned out to be due to the conditions!....It was like a war zone at some points medical wise...... so I am surprised that the attrition rate was so low on the day.........and of course the SECOND marathon of the day...getting out of Central Park.....Finish line @800m from hotel .......Had to walk 4k to get there! it wasn't the easiest (understandable from an organizer point of view/need, but was sooooooooooooooo annoying being so close to hotel and not being able to exit the finish area without the extra marathon. My son collapsed 3 times, but a few runners rallied around him and helped him in the last 10 miles, which he said got him through. I found the crowds as talked about.....feast or famine.... but when they were there.... it was great! A point of interest, Both NY and Berlin had stated cut-offs, there were official finishers listed over these times.....but does it affect the runners eligibility if they are targeting a 6 star finish???? .....The sheer number of people that walk across the runners on course was a total shock!!
Stuart!!! Thank you so much for taking the time and energy not only to listen and support but also to write such an awesome and insightful response. And we're glad you love them as there are two more major episodes to come haha! Huge congrats to you for finishing 2022's race - that should have received mega marathon status. I'm sorry to hear about your son but relieved to hear that he's ok. That must have been very scary for him. Completely with you with the frustrating marathon at the end, I hope that there is some way for them to improve that in future. Thrilled to hear that you actually had a great race despite an injury, I definitely think things get easier when you take the pressure away from yourself and just allow yourself to be in the moment. That's a great mindset to have!! How many majors is this for you now? And what races do you have coming up?
@@themegmethod NY last year, Just done Berlin.................. We are in London next April and Chicago next Oct, so those Breakdowns were SUPER helpful!! 👍😁. Hoping to run a BQ in London next year and just enjoy Chicago (long haul from Australia!, so as much an after run travelling holiday) or as a backup in case miss it. Then Tokyo and finally 🤞Boston, so looking forward to the Tokyo and Boston dissects! 👍🦾🏃❤. One area I found at BOTH majors (going through tour operators as we tried for a few years through ballots, but unsuccessfully), and I don't blame the operators for this.... Is after MASSIVE flights/travelling/transfer time, (36 hours NY & 28 hours Berlin), the hotel check-in was horrendous!, I know it must be super-stressful for the hotel staff on that peak day, but it would be nice to see tour operators facilitating/co-ordinating the process for the clients. We weren't even allocated a room, and had to provided our details etc etc etc queuing in several queues for over an hour and had no operator staff on site during this time, which given our exhausted jet-lagged state was the most disappointing part of the experience, given that we had paid months in advance and names and numbers would have been known. Surely it can't be super logistically difficult (and I'd say easier for the hotel) if they say XYZ tour operator has 25 rooms, A hotel rep pre-allocates those to a designated tour organiser contact in relation to their pre-supplied list of names available months ahead of time so can be be pre-loaded onto the system, who then allocates/distributes at the 3pm check-in time. Maybe I'm over-simplifying 🤣🤣🤣🤔 There were several parties from around the world with similar issues......but maybe that's WHY the tour operators were AWOL, they know it's going to be a mess!
@@stuartwalker6786 Thanks for the insight into the hotel logistics as the heads up may well help someone else using tour operators. Hopefully the operators can take your feedback on board and find a few ways to simplify the process. How are you feeling about London and Chicago next year? Do you have any plans in place yet? I'm slowly coming back from my marathon hiatus post Ironman and now looking forward to running in Tokyo this March. It'll be marathon 21 and start no. 5 so i'm looking forward to the prep and the last two episodes should be fun! Please don't be shy in sending any questions my way if there is anything in particular you want covered 😃👍
@@themegmethod Yes London Booked, Chicago pre-booked and just awaiting official releases.....hopefully can find another kidney to sell to afford the trip 🤣 (we do have 3 kidneys right? 🤔🤣). All my previous marathons were during Ironman, Best one 3:37 at Roth in Germany, So NY was my first stand alone.... I had (due to respiratory issues, now resolved) changed over to sprinting for the last 10 years during my 40/50s, and did pretty well for an ex endurance athlete, so it was quite a shock to the system to go from 60m/100m to the marathon again!!!. My eldest son talked me in to trying to do the 6 majors together. Hoping to go 3:40-45 at London or Chicago as a back up and hopefully secure a BQ. Then Tokyo following March and hopefully then Boston as the last one.....that's If my one remaining kidney holds up!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣. As a results driven athlete, I thought I'd find it hard to readjust to tackling them with an ongoing hamstring/knee issue, but am finding the process and journey and the experiences each one brings amazing..... I was tracking (fitness/performance wise) for about 3:45ish at NY, but the injury actually provided challenges AND opportunities, to see the races in a different way and Both NY and Berlin were fantastic experiences..... if not in a 'performance' way, but in a personal satisfaction way. Good luck in Tokyo, Nice that you and Yimmy do the breakdowns, It is super helpful and enjoyable to view!, minimising headache is a major part of an unforgettable experience 👍
@@stuartwalker6786aww that’s so special that you’ve got to share a handful of these experiences with your son. Haha yes this running stuff can be expensive. Thankfully I’ve managed to do it all on a shoestring so far so not too expensive. But definitely feel extremely grateful to have had these experiences. Sorry to hear about the ongoing hamstring issues. How did it start? Might be worth looking at your pelvis and feet if you haven’t already to see what’s going on there as hamstring may well be a symptom of another problem.
Thanks for sharing this video. I’m running New York in 2 weeks time, and I found this super helpful. I now know to not use the bag drop- so hopefully that will improve my post race experience. I have also made a note to take a medal photo on the Brooklyn Bridge on the Monday- such a great idea. Thank you x
