    What I actually have?
    4 lenses: Couple Sigmas the 18-35 and a 11-18 a Canon pancake 50mm and a Tokina 18-50. Not the most expensive but 🤷🏾‍♂️
    Camera: GH5S Because I'm more Video than Photo...
    Tripods: Gorilla and a Manfrotto. I'm good for a while
    Gimbal: Ronin S and I do make good use of it...
    Sound Recorder: Zoom H6
    Mics: I have a few different ones. SENNHEISER G4 I think it is (Lav) clean, Blue Yeti Pro when I'm doing V/O I also have mics for music. Aston Stealth and Origin...
    They forgot headphones... I have 2 AKG 240MK2 (Flat) and Audiotechnica M50X (boosted mids and brighter sound)
    Field monitor: I have a secondary screen I never use 😭🙈 Atomos Shogun.
    Polarisers: I have a few Hoyas I believe the brand is and some free tinted ones I got with my camera. I do need to focus more on these...
    Light: Zero lol I use the sun/iso settings and good WBn 😂😂😂
    When I get money I want some lights for real until then I may get some reflectors or whatever they're called to bounce natural light...
    How much of this do you actually need? I shot an entire film with pretty much Tripod, Gimbal, Audio Recorder, Lav mic, Lenses and it looks pretty damn great. I also did it alone...
    Work with what you have and if you have a little put a lot of creativity into it. If you have a lot don't be lazy lol

    Audio is my jam, it’s what I went to school for. Flat eq mics are better for professional work. But audio is hella subjective, not really objective. You can record a shoot with a ribbon mic if it’s the sound you’re looking for.

  • @SkintSNIPER262
    @SkintSNIPER262 5 лет назад

    I went to school for audio engineering. From what I've seen, people who say aim the shotgun mic at the mouth are the people who usually advocate for a bassey mic. It's best to aim the mic at their solar plexus. That way you pick up the mids and high projecting from their mouth and get the low end (bass) from their high chest area.

    • @TheFuzzChannel
      @TheFuzzChannel 5 лет назад

      The highs and mids are coming out of the mouth, if you aim for the plexus, you’ll have less highs and mids because you’re out of the microphone’s directivity, creating a muffled sound.
      So if you want a bassy/shitty sound aim for the chest, but your comment is wrong mate

    When it comes to 'warm' sound, that isnt the same as adding bass. In fact what it is - is even order harmonic distortion. Which is essentially soft clipping audio. Which is essentially either tube amplifier stuff, or expensive stuff. I think it is simply important to listen to stuff on microphones through headphones and speakers to get an idea what it sounds like. For instance if you use a shotgun mic with a dead cat setup, to me it sounds like a bad room recording, even when it is recording outside. The dead cat thing is for canceling wind noise, which is important, but you get this awful phone booth sound out of it. Use a Rycote Cyclone and it sounds much better. The point is there is as much to know about sound as about any other technical aspect of film making. And it is the first thing people judge quality by.

    I'd argue that you only need all of this stuff if you have a good amount of money to spend. In reality, you can start off with a much smaller amount of stuff - Camera (w/lens), tripod with fluid head, and decent mic. If you have leftover money, get an outboard sound recorder (zoom h1 is $100). You can get all of this for less than $1000.

    If you're waiting on getting gear to shoot film - you're not a real filmmaker. The most important camera is the one you have in your hands. I've been filming for over 8 years, and have seen tremendous short films shot with nothing more than an iPhone and Filmic Pro. Claude Lelouch just shot an entire feature on an iPhone using the FIlmic Pro app, and it was just at Cannes.
    Having said that, I have invested in quality gear over time. Id also say that learning everything you can about editing and color grading / correction is as important as what you're using to film.

    I hate people who say you need no gear, instead they should say and emphasize something like this. Use your budget for lighting and use whatever camera you ALREADY have available, don't use the money for the camera use it for lights. This is great for new or indie filmmakers because cameras constantly change and upgrade and you will be tempted to buy the next best thing. Lights on the other hand are just that, they don't change much and last you at least 5 years if you take care of them.
    TLDR; DONT by camera gear buy lighting gear first!

    For Lenses I would look into anything in M42 mount made by Carl Zeiss but popularised by Pentax and Pentacon. They are generally cheaper in price, highly adaptable, some are stepless aperture and many are and high quality designs... like the Meyer Optik Görlitz line of lenses.
    For light I use 4000K LED, 1600 Lumen work lights... they are 20W, but they work for me (I use 6 of them).
    Again grate video!

Do you have any other suggestions that you can just respond back with so greedy masses can’t have a hold on this?

    "...and it's really affordable for a sound device, this around $600-$650." Kinda of made me laugh a bit. Like in other words I won't be buying it. Yes, I get it good audio equipment can be expensive. Everyone has their version of expensive. :)

      He means the brand ‘Sound Devices’. Their mixers and recorders usually cost 3 grand. The mix pre 3 is a bargain in the context of pro audio. It seems expensive when you’re coming from consumer audio kit. Worth investing if you want reliability and quality to stand out for your clients. You can miss a dodgy shot or cut but you can’t look away from poor sound.

      I totally agree. I use a zoom H2N, it is a very good recorder to start. Also standard light stands + PAR56 or 64 cans are really dirt cheap and work very well. They are so simple and cheap, you can even buy them used, without much risk. You may need a CTB filter to match color temperature to other types of lights. My 2 cents....

    Zoom F6 is better value than Sound Devices. Also a couple of good wireless Lav mics are essential IMHO.

      Thomas Ong fr, wasn’t there a hike on Canon FD prices within the past year or two from popular resurgence alone?

    • @thomasong9931
      @thomasong9931 5 лет назад

      @@TheAnimistOfficial not sure on the fd lenses since I personally do not use them (nikon guy). I know some of the russian ones like the mir 1b/v have tripled over the last 2 years. I would not be surprised at all if they did though. Supply & demand is fr. Especially vintage lenses, with these videos constantly promoting them

    You should write the name of the DOP next to "Camera" on the slate (clapperboard), not the actual camera model...

      Sometimes it's nice for the editor to know what was shot on which camera for shot matching and basic color corrections.
