I am amazed to see this WR broken. I remember watching a video of Sebastian Coe running the WR back in 1981 with a time of 1:41.73, then Wilson Kipketer ran a time of 1:41.11 in 1997, so Sebastian Coe's WR stood for 16 years. I did forget to mention that Kipketer did run a WR of ~1:41.20 or something like that during the same year (1997) before bettering his own WR to 1:41.11, so that was when Coe's WR was officially broken. Thirteen years have gone by and the 800m WR was broken again.
Looking at this race, looks like the other runners did not know that he was the pace setter. Don't get me wrong but a 52 after a 48, is insane... this dude would be in first place running the first two legs against most Boys HS 4x400 relays.

When I was a senior in high school, my best time in the 800m was a 2:02.42, and it was the hardest race I'd ever ran. These guys make it look so effortless.

lol even though this was a complete joke, what you said is like saying running a 10 second 100 is impossible because it's equivalent to running a 2:40 mile
julian depaz "lol even though this was a complete joke, what you said is like saying running a 10 second 100 is impossible because it's equivalent to running a 2:40 mile" Nonsense, sir..... absolute b******s, in fact! In all honesty, I suspect that you have deliberately misinterpreted the point that I made in my previous 'post'. You know as well as I do, Mr Depaz, that there are plenty of blokes (about 100, in fact) who have run the 100 metres sprint in 10.00 seconds - or faster. However, the World Record for the mile is NOWHERE NEAR as low as 2 minutes, 40.00 seconds. (It is, in fact, 3 minutes, 43.13 seconds; this time was set by Mr Hicham El Guerrouj [Morocco] in July 1999, and has remained unbeaten for over 15 years now.) Obviously, the current World Record - held by the gifted Moroccan middle-distance star of the 1990s and early 2000s - will be beaten one day..... probably at some point within the next 10 years. But common sense would dictate that NO human being will EVER run a mile in less than 3 minutes - let alone in 2 minutes, 40 seconds. I certainly did NOT imply - in my earlier 'post' - that a time of 10.00 seconds for the 100m sprint was equivalent to a time of 2 minutes, 40 seconds for the mile. If I thought that, then I would be a prime candidate for the funny farm (although, of course, in these days of Political Correctness, one is not supposed to use pejorative colloquial terms such as 'funny farm'). What I DID imply (in my previous 'post') is this:- It is PREPOSTEROUS for any human being to claim that they are capable of sprinting 1 metre in 0.01 seconds (even with a 'flying' start, as it were), as this is equivalent to sprinting 100 metres in 1.00 second. As we all know, any reasonably fit human being can run at their own MAXIMUM speed - i.e. sprint - for a distance of 100 metres. But NO human being - however athletically gifted and physically well-conditioned they may be - can run at their MAXIMUM speed for a mile (or even for a quarter of that distance, for that matter).
Gingam Usain bolt, the FASTEST MAN ALIVE, can only run 100m in 9 and a half seconds, multiply that by 8(without accounting for decreasing stamina) and it would take Usain Bolt 1 minute and 12 seconds to run 800m at best. There's absolutely no way you ran 800 in 35 seconds as it is literally humanly impossible due to the way our body is made up. So no, you didn't.
you gotta understand how much effort it takes to run these races. you are giving 100% effort so not everybody can keep up with that pace so they stop because of the amount of mental toughness required.
2:00.00 is not a bad time for a 15-year-old youth; not bad at all. I suggest that you join an athletics club and start training seriously for the 800m (maybe you already have).
Everyone in 2012 set records for place. 8th would have, I believe, been faster than the Beijing (2008) winner. But no, not everyone in the race ran faster than the WR. That's never been done, in any event. It's rare for even 2 runners to break the WR - El Guerrouj and Ngeny did it when El G. set the mile WR.
I always wonder about the mindset of someone who comes on to a video of THE WORLD FUCKING RECORD to say "I'm x years old and I run it in mediocre time y". WHO FUCKING CARES? We're here to watch ELITE athletes, not hear about the best 7th grader at John Q Suburb junior high that has two black kids.

@Turk435 Example: When running an 800M and the first 400M you get 1 Minute. It's hard to tie that 2nd 400M again. So it's easier to burn a lot of energy the first lap and gradually slow down but not by more than 5ish seconds. But this only emplies for the time under 2:00 minute because doing a lap at 55 Seconds is already hard enough already- expected to run another lap after that within a minute flat.
@Siroucity [Continuing on from my previous 'post' about the optimum age for an 800 metres runner] was 26 years of age when he set his second (and last) 800 metres world record, in the August of 1977. The big Cuban's time, if memory serves, was 1:43.44. Even by the standards of today, that is still a very good performance - but the fact remains that there are at least 25 blokes who have run faster than that since 1979.
@Turk435 I honestly think its down to the person, and also if you think about it if you lead the field you don't have to waste energy going round someone, as supposed to getting boxed in by other runners if you decide to burn the second lap. But it all depends what kind of runner you are, do you love running down people? Or chased?
He made the greatest 800M runners in the world look like bench warmers. That is beyond impressive.
This is the hardest distance in all of track. He was truly a special talent. I don’t see anyone being able to eclipse this record for awhile.

beautiful run.
thanks for telling, wow i didnt know there was so much to running
@Turk435 I honestly think its down to the person, and also if you think about it if you lead the field you don't have to waste energy going round someone, as supposed to getting boxed in by other runners if you decide to burn the second lap. But it all depends what kind of runner you are, do you love running down people? Or chased?
Rudisha...greatest 800m runner ever.
