I’m glad to have the memory of seeing you guys in, I think in 1981, doing a practice over the Boeing factory in Everett.

Great interview with Scott! I can relate to the many things Scott mentioned in his interview, especially when he talks about #7 aircraft. I served as the Crew Chief in the mid 70’s on #7 aircraft and spent a lot of time in the back seat traveling with the pilot to the many show sites. The A4 was a good show plane. I liked the fact that Scott gave credit to the maintenance crew, office staff and others that make the Blue Angels shine. I always love when you do interviews of former team members; always bring back good memories.

Well done video! I went to high school with Scott's wife, Jan, and was a Naval Flight Officer flying S-3 Vikings off carriers and can relate.

Great video/interview, Ryan and Scott. Scott, we're a long way from our initial sims at the old NWA block house back in '85. Helluva journey we've had. Be well....!

Every year my family would see the Blue Angels fly at Moffett Navel Air Station in California. Now I take my kids to fleet week and watch them in San Francisco. It is a show that never gets old. The pilots all seem to be so humble. I love that they all mention the maintenance crews. True teammates.

Moffett was my first show in 87! Huge crowds back then. After the base shut down, the Thunderbirds flew an air show there in 2004.

Thanks Sir - Grew up outside NAS Moffett and watched the Blues in Phantoms & Scooters until I left for Orlando in 86 - and was in Pensacola for Naval Aircrew & Rescue Swimmer Schools - saw the NEW Hornets on a near daily basis while running the seawall and beach. Flew in the Seahawk for 12 years and rarely saw ya'll at NAS North Island.

Growing up in the SF Bay Area, fleet week in October was something to see on the bay with the Blues. The A4's were sleek aircraft to fly and watch. Loved watching these guys fly, fantastic pilots. Keep'em flying guys!

Flew with Scotty when he was aboard Forrestal and again at Northwest and Delta. Really great guy. One of the CVW-17 pilots (VF-74 flying Phantoms) was a former Blue Angel; John Patton. He used to narrate the "air shows" when the air wing flew demos for various dignitaries such as the King of Spain.

I've been going to airshows all my life and seen the Blues, T birds, Snowbirds and many more but the Blues in the A4s was by far the best I ever saw. The small size of that airplane made it look like it was going a million miles an hour and the climb performance was staggering. I hate to say it but the Hornets are a bit dull in comparison.

I was on the Forrestal when the Blue Angles gave us a personal air show off the coast of NJ after a long 9 month deployment in 82!!
I took pictures of the entire show with a 110 minolta underwater camera. They were only 300' off the port side deck! Best Blue's show ever!!

I saw the F-4's once and the A-4's twice. I feel the A-4's flew lower and tighter than any versions of the Blue Angles inculding the F-18's Loved thos little aircraft, have to add that I thnk those who flew the Phantom's had the hardest aircaft to fly the demo. I am betting the F-18E's will be problematic.

Big D -1- Channel . You are correct on all accounts. I joined the team in 1975 when the F4’s were going out and the A4’s were coming in. Although the A4 was not as loud and looked as mean as the F4, they could be flown in a tighter formation. The F4’s were high maintenance and replacing them with the A4 was the right choice and highly cost effective. The A4 will always be one of my favorite aircraft.

Wish I had the opportunity to see the Blues in F4s and A4s. I was simply too young. I really enjoy looking at old pictures taken by Harry Gann as well as watching the movie Threshold: "The Blue Angels Experience".

    • @email4664

Tight, like the Golden Hawks of Canada in the F-86. These A-4 would suck right up against each other and fly like one. Show that to a kid, and you will have them hooked. I recall watching the guys out of Edwards air Force Base using Skyhawks as the rabbit zipping up the canyons, being chased by the F-16 (foxes), and they tromped the snot out of them in the crags and valleys. This was heading up to summit Mount Whitney in California. The A-4 was blistering in it's maneuverability, but I have to admit, the F-16 hitting the afterburners at low level coming out of a canyon is pretty incredible too.
Blues of all era are studs. The F-4 would have been really impressive. They are massive birds, and all muscle. Downright brutal looks too. Thanks for the video lads!

@@thereissomecoolstuff unfortunately i wasn't born when the Blues flew the Phantom so didn't have the opportunity to see them but my dad told me that it was an outstanding aircraft and was the fastest of all even faster than the F-18.

@@hmiranda71 don't worry..no debate here. The F4's were crazy planes. Big power, narrow frame and just mean looking with that nose. I got to see them as we lived in Norfolk and they flew at the air station. I was 8-9.. it was amazing.. I go to El Centro and watch the angels practice.. When they take off over the hay bales there is nothing like it... Check out MKBlues. He records every practice.

@@BlueAngelPhantoms Watch "Threshold" for some great Phantom footage. Most impressive Blue Angels show I ever saw was at Purdue University when I was a student in 1972 (?). There was a gravel pit about 1/4 mile from the end of the runway. On his first take-off, the lead solo ducked into the gravel pit, rolled inverted, and flew out into an inside loop. Very impressive power from the Phantom to do that. Very loud, too.
