Do Indians in India Really Need to be Proficient in English??
WHY PEOPLE WILL LAUGH -- IF someone speaks incorrect, ungrammatical English with faulty pronunciations?!!
In India, hardly 5% people can speak and write correct English with the right pronunciations -- amongst the set of people who understands English. From this set of people, 95% speak and write faulty and incorrect English without being aware of their mistakes. Nobody Laughs! Daily I encounter such people who cannot speak or write a simple & single sentence correctly. Even if they start with 2-3 English words, they invariably shift to Hindi simply because they fail to complete the sentences in English.
These people are working as managers in corporate companies, PSU & Private sector banks including in Reliance...!!
This is India. Nobody expects you to understand, speak and write in English. However, if you are amongst the top 5% who are proficient in English, it may sometimes be a bonus for you but not always!
Now, if you are a North Indian and do not know any South Indian language, they won't call you for an interview, no matter how good your English is or you might be a university topper!!
On the other hand, a South Indian can get a job in North India even if his Hindi is very bad.
