Truly a superb lecture! All in one take too, very impressive. I have to say, the history was my favourite part. Completely changed my view of chemistry. Really, one of the best lectures I’ve ever seen.

Have you ever seen the Mercury bell? It had no ring because of its density, obviously had to be frozen, you are brave to put so much into such thin containers and have no catch containers
I wondered, could the escaping nitrogen gas also carry with it mercury vapor, or is that the reason you are right by the fume hoods
I too had an amalgum filling, about ten years ago, which I late removed, I proved it was still producing vapor by placing it into a tube and evacuating the air, after some time the introduction of high frequency electricity produced the uv glow of mercury, rather than the spectra of the air, comforting to know it isn't in my mouth any longer!
    Great demonstrations!
