The way Charlie says it is what makes it so goddamn funny. Like he could have played it different and made it a big scene but his genuine confusion is just so hilarious.
I've noticed that every main character in the show is so self absorbed that as long as they're maintaining a conversation almost nothing will distract them. It's like that one episode where they have a guy threatening to jump off their roof but they don't even notice until a crowd has fully formed and a cop tells them about it.
