There's a bit more to the PI story (seen it before) - sometime later, the wife married a good man, and the pair ran into the detective. Said detective ended up getting a very nice contract with the new husband's law firm or something like that.

My dude, you forgot the update to the first one! The wife remarried a great guy and got OP steady work working for her husband!

I appreciate you adding in this part. Listening to the story made me want to smack the guy upside the head. Not just for being a garbage human being but also for being a moron. You actively let a group of professional investigators spy on you with cameras and everything, consciously choose to cheat on your own wife in front of said cameras, and then try and screw over the guys who have been spying on you??? In what scenario do you walk away from that a winner? What drugs was he on that he actually thought there would be no consequences for any of that?
Knowing that the wife ended up with someone decent, and the OP works for them helps ease the migraine the first husband gave me with his stupidity

A wise adage: Never stiff a lawyer or a hit man. A corollary to that is to never piss off someone who can make your life miserable.

Absolutely good advice. I discovered several decades ago that life is simply easier for nice people (not that I wasn't nice before I realized how beneficial niceness was).

If I remember correctly, that edit from the first story post stated that the wife and her new husband later contacted op and have a drink (few years later I think) and the good wife's new husband is a District attorney and want to hire op's company for Investigation Services

I've heard/read that story quite a few times, it's an "old classic", but it's a good one. However, I hope I don't have to zip through it again in the future looking for new (to me) content.

Couldn’t they get him on a fraud charge too? If he was trying to divorce his wife for infidelity even though he was cheating on her, couldn’t that be taken as him trying to cheat her out of what she’d be entitled to in the divorce?

From story 1: Why in the world would you ask an investigative team to investigate a problem that can only back fire? Reminds me of a story from when I worked at Disney where a "Karen" was right in her complaint. From the last story: I love it when people take advantage of the stupidity of a Karen with a little "stick to ya" as a bonus. Keep the pro revenge stories coming. Can you add some malicious compliance stories too? That is the kind of guy I am. Thanks RedWheel

As someone who has done some PI work...it boils down to something like the Dunning-Krueger effect but outside the realm of intelligence. In short...sleazy people tend to believe others are just as morally bankrupt as they are. I actually got to work four cases where someone wanted their spouse investigated for cheating...and what we found out was that the one who hired was was either cheating as well...or was the only one cheating in the relationship.

From the other point of view, imagine driving up to a parking area with nine or ten empty spaces and then some nutter indicates you can't park there. You'd be thinking what the fk is wrong with them protecting all the space around the car! From their perspective given the currently invisible tow truck, they have You down as the nut job 🤣🤣
