Nvidia is clearly one of the biggest builders of generative AI infrastructure, strategist says

  • Nvidia's (NVDA) stock is under pressure Friday as a recent sell-off erases $118 billion of its market cap. This downturn follows the company's brief stint as the most valuable company in US markets. Microsoft (MSFT) is once again the most valuable company heading into Friday's trading session.
    Moor Insights & Strategy Founder, CEO, and Chief Analyst Patrick Moorhead joins the Morning Brief to share his perspective on Nvidia's outlook.
    Moorhead draws a parallel between Nvidia's current trajectory and Cisco's (CSCO) rise in the early 2000s. "Cisco was the driver and the builder of the infrastructure for the internet age, and there was over-investment in this space," he explains. Similarly, Nvidia now finds itself as the primary infrastructure provider for the generative AI technology sector.
    However, Moorhead emphasizes that Nvidia's continued dominance hinges on sustained enterprise demand for their offerings. He cautions if customers stop buying Nvidia's offerings, "then this whole gravy train comes to a screeching halt."
    Looking ahead, Moorhead states: "If Nvidia and its partners can stick this landing and enterprises can start either leveraging the benefits from enterprise SaaS [Software as a Service] companies... or building their own, then this is going to be a 5 to 10-year run. And maybe we won't see the dot-com bust like we saw years ago."

    just sold part of my Nvidia stock to protect my profits, but I'm holding onto some for the long run because of the company's strong growth prospects. In addition, I'm thinking of expanding the variety in my $400K stock portfolio, but I'm not sure how to handle risks going forward.

      True. My portfolio was diversified across several markets with the help of a financial planner, and were able to achieve over a million in net profit among high dividend yield equities, ETFs, and bonds. It is vital that you have a variety of exposure, including in firms that are currently generating cash flows.

    At the end of the day, Nvidea has the power to say who uses its new AI features,Nvidea has pricing power to charge a very high price for any company to use its AI for their businesses, So I will be adding to my NVidia position heavily

    It’s precisely at times like these that investors need to be on guard against the next certainty. You don’t have to act on every forecast. I will also suggest investors to get yourselves a financial-advisor that can provide you with entry and exit points on the shares/ETF you focus on.

    Cisco were selling Routers, LAN equipment, Wi-fi boxes, cable modems etc. That's all relatively low tech - easier to make than the average TV and easily copied and then mass produced by the likes of Huawei. The moat for Nvidia's tech is far deeper and wider.

    With markets tumbling, inflation soaring, the Fed imposing large interest-rate hike, while treasury yields are rising rapidly, which means more red ink for portfolios this second quarter of the year. And the crypto market is expected to do way better than any other equity sectors this 2024 especially with the SEC crypto ETF approval but it’s a volatile market nevertheless and if you’re new to it, it’s best to reach out to an experienced adviser for proper guidance.

    Nvidia has 4X less revenue of Google, yet 1.5X more of market cap.
    Yes. Nvidia is good company but is extremely overvalued. People hyped to much by media, keep buying without knowing anything at all but its fair value way way down of current price. So many people will have a costly lesson.

      Look at the revenue AND net profit. Google has indeed 4x the revenue but only ~x2 Net profit. Combine that with the expected growth forecast for Nvidia which is far superior than Google's and you realise that its valuation isn't ridiculous. The market is forward looking. An unprofitable company could be worth billions if there's a huge opportunity ahead.

    • @bpolat
      @bpolat 7 дней назад

      @@MrSuperOurs 😂 You think while Nvidia is selling extremely expensive GPU with astronomical profit margins other companies sit and watch next 5 years? Within one or two years, there will many products hitting market. Even now Google or Apple do not use Nvidia products. Google use TPU, Apple use apple silicon AI chips.

    • @MrSuperOurs
      @MrSuperOurs 7 дней назад +2

      @@bpolat The truth is companies use a mixture of both Nvidia chips and their own ones. There's a reason Nvidia has 80% market share, in some cases you can't replace them. And Nvidia isn't only a hardware manufacturer anymore, they provide data centers and a software platform. Countries are also looking at buying these products, or already bought them. Nvidia will still have healthy growth over the next 3-5 years, then obviously will stagnate as they lose market share due to competition. But the pie is only getting bigger. But then of course, you can disagree with its current valuation, which by all metrics is overvalued. The current valuation is definitely a "bet" on what Nvidia could be, and they are delivering on these promises so far.
      Ultimately, I don't really care if they succeed in the long term or not, I'm here for the gains. I made a 300% return on Nvidia, trimmed 90% of my position at $130/share, and left the rest for further growth. If it goes down to 0, I still made a huge profit.

      Google is desperate to buy Nvidia's hardware just like everybody else. Google's entire existence has always been predicated on AI, going back the the primitive neural networks of the late 1990s that powered their initial search. Google has been buying Nvidia chips for recommender systems since 2014, especially RUclips. Google needs Nvidia more than Nvidia needs Google.
