    Strangely I like the Epiphone better

      I’m torn. For the money, the epiphone is great. The balance and ring it has are fantastic but the bass response on the Gibson is also fun.

    These delicious warm chords your playing are what a J-45 does best! My Epi J-45 came perfect. Including the action. It's not the Gibson J-45..but it comes as close as anyone will ever get to a J-45. I have both, and the Epi J-45 gets played more than the Gibby. Get it while you can.

    I have one on order and plan to remove the “thick as a brick” pickguard.

      I hate that pickguard too. I replaced the Fishman system with the K&K Pure Mini which I have in all my acoustics. I'd be interested to know how your pickguard removal goes. Are you going to replace it?

      I did just that. Hair dryer works well. lemon oil to get the glue off. Didn't hurt a thing - finish is perfect and I much prefer the look.

    There is a small difference but is it worth thousands of dollars? And this could well be fixed with a better nut or saddle and pins.

      And i think removing that pickguard would also help, because it's way too thick.

    when i took the 50 pound pickguard off my epi J45 it sounded more like a Gibson

      @@BanjoPicker easy...blow dryer, credit card and Goo Gone. The urethane finish is very strong and not affected by Goo Gone adhesive remover.

    The IBG J-45 is a fantastic guitar. Glad I bought one that was made in the Samick factory in Indonesia. They have moved production of at least some IBG lines to China now and it remains to be seen whether the standards have been maintained. If the 5th & 6th digits of the code are 23 you are OK.

    So which is which? The first one has more mid-range it seemed. But also muddier when you did a barred f chord..but I don't think you repeated that chord on the second guit.
    I could be totally off here just giving my impression 😉

    On the Epi- lose the 2 mm thick pick guard.. it will allow the guitar to sound more fuller.

    Well the Gibson is definitely better sounding, but not that it makes the Epiphone bad, it still is OK but the otherone is better.

    I have the Epi J45 and it was greatly improved ripping out the pickup and controls. Then you need to make a new bone saddle which I did compensate. I also use 13’s and its awesome. The only thing Gibson has on it that will produce better sound is scalloped bracing which the Epi does not have.

      That pick guard is mad thicc that’s why getting rid of it will def open up the guitar.

    What kind bridge pins and strings on that epiphone j45 ibg

  • @rmzzz76
    @rmzzz76 3 года назад +2

    The big difference is the bone nut and saddle on the IBG Epiphone J-45. If you compare that all solid Epiphone to one of the new Gibson J-45 or J-50 "50's" J-45's it will have bone nut and saddle, and you'll also notice they sound almost the same... Likewise, try putting a TUSQ nut and saddle on the Epiphone J-45 and you'll hear a difference... The Slash edition IBG Epiphone J-45 has the TUSQ nut and saddle.

    Since Epiphone guitars are a sister company of Gibson, then it is not actually inspired, but rather a remake.

    I have an 70s epiphone ej45 as it was called back then and it sounds better than either of these point being they will both improve a lot in a few years the epiphone is 95% of the guitar the Gibson is at a 5th the cost my d28 don’t sound as rich as my epi

    • @Mountainrock70
      @Mountainrock70 3 года назад

      95 percent is about right and good enough! Just pick it 5 percent better!

    They both sound very thin and don't project well, a Guild D140 at around the same price as the Epi would blow both of those with richness, warmth (Mahogany) and a massive amount of cannon like projection, do yourself a favour and try one, seriously the best guitar you can buy for the money, blind test it against a 3K Martin and be surprised.

    • @Blkojo
      @Blkojo 2 года назад +1

      Neither sounds thin and both also, like your cheap Guild, are mahogany back/sides. Do you actually have anything to contribute here?

    • @fourocker
      @fourocker 2 года назад

      @@Blkojo my contribution is for others to be aware that there are other better or at minimum equal options out there if they look outside the fanboy brands.....not just these two, possibly they sound better in person but I doubt it as I've tried some in stores and never found one that called out to buy it, no need to be offended I'm just interpreting what I hear, if you enjoy them and are happy with them that's all that matters. We both love acoustic guitar so all is good in the world.

    • @fourocker
      @fourocker 2 года назад

      @@Blkojo not MY cheap Guild BTW as I don't own one, just an example of good solid competition that's comparable and out there to sample. The BEST sounding and playing acoustic dreadnought that I have stumbled across in recent years was an Alvarez (Yairi) MD 60 Mahogany, was the best sounding guitar in the store by far, could have been a freak, I offered to buy it but a deposit had been left so I missed out.
