BO DONALDSON & THE HEYWOODS Who Do You Think You Are

- Freaky Friday post; more the vision than the song. 'Who Do You Think You Are' by Bo Donaldson and the Heywoods was a 1974 cover of a recording the previous year by British group Candlewick Green. This recording was a Top 15 in America but only made #64 here in Australia in the latter weeks of 1974. Donaldson & The Heywoods are best known for their version of 'Billy, Don't Be A Hero' which was another cover of a British hit (Paper Lace, recorded the original). That song was a #1 hit all around the world; depending on which country and which version.
We need a bit of frivolity right now. Enjoy the Freaky Friday selection. - Хобби
I never get tired of watching this video!! The dancers are amazing! The two in front... WOW!!
thanks, it's a hoot isn't it
The lyrics are shown in their moves. Great video
Love this because the lead singer is Mike Gibbons with his unique voice! 🎶

I love this version of the song. Hands down.
I agree! I have heard the other 3 versions! This man puts his life and soul in this song!
You're right!! I play this one on a regular basis:) plus I love the dancing-make you want to start dancing!
Absolutely! Great raw emotion
Trained dancers with a touch of spaz. Brilliant!
Originally dancing to the song "Nitty Gritty".
I just love the dancers they also look fantastic. The young man in the middle steals the show. Two thumbs up for the whole crew.
That's Bobby Banas, a well known dancer/choreographer/actor in Los Angeles. The TV video clip is taken from "The Judy Garland Show" (1963) when they were dancing to the Shirly Ellis hit, "The Nitty Gritty".
Pienso que el hombre del.lado izquierdo baila mejor.
@@pgh45rpms Thanks man, I knew there was something special about him.
Bobby Banas was in many movie musicals during the 1960s. He was a chimney sweep in Mary Poppins, and he played one of the Jets in West Side Story.
The man and his partner in the middle front both own it! They 're a little less rigid while making it look easy and fun, (always the goal on stage) which it is not.
This song is such a great memory for me…and the dancing is frickin’ awesome!!
Awesome song, and that dancing has to be seen to be believed! Thanks so much for posting!
it's pretty groovy isn't it? thanks Danny. cheers; Dave
1,000,000% agree.
This is beyond fabulous. The dancing. The song. Wow.
thanks Joe. cheers; Dave
daveinprogress3 where did you find that dancing video? I’ve always loved this song and thought nobody remembered it.
@@joescarborough917 not sure, it was on the internet, i 'borrowed' it for the clip - i must have been looking for jive and found it.

My favorite song from them. Great memories from the fall of 1974 !
It’s the dancing for me. Song is great also.
I love this song and I love how this guy Bobby in the front dances
How do u know the name of the front dancer .. he is amazing!!
Bobby who. What's his full name?

That guy in the front ain't no joke. He has that extra compared to the others. Look at his hair compared to the others while he dances. I have no clue who he is but he's awesome

@vivekdas6502 thank you so much for the information...Glad to know he's still alive and well.
This song was written by the band Jigsaw. I had their two-album. There were many romantic songs in them. each one of the songs expresses the love of man and woman. Every lyric was beautiful and the melody is much it. I had been loving their songs, but only a few people recognized the band. Only knowing for them is song's name ''Sky High''. How poor their imagination is. they never know
real romantic poet.
It does sound like Sky High....
Love fire by Jigsaw was a truly wonderful so g!
Song also was recorded in 1993 by Saint Eitenne, whose version was never released in the US.
Forgot about these guys and loved the song back in jr high school. Played the 45 over and over on my record player. These dancers look goofy at first but by the end of the song you are amazed at how good they are. Makes me wanna dance! Thank you whoever put this together! Not only liked it but saving it too.
you're welcome K Z - I put this together. A bit-o-fun! Happy New Year - cheers; Dave
Recovering from another heartbreak, getting dressed after shower have this cranked up
Excellent video and song-brightened up my night, thank you!
you're very welcome addier - there's some 2000 retro clips on my channel for you to enjoy and brighten up many nights, hopefully. Cheers; Dave
I Like this video. I like the song. Thank YOU.
I tell you this song today I have on cd. just a fun classic song. 15 years old.
I've always loved this song, and these dancers are insane!
This is pure genius. having the dancers do the "Nitty Gritty" to this super 70's song! Very well created!
thank you so much :)
I agree! This is such a creative collaboration…only someone super talented would think to put the two together. It keeps popping up on my phone ever since I googled the song over the weekend…and watching it has put the biggest smile 😀 on my face ever day since!!
OMG I’d completely forgotten this song… and now hearing it again, I’m instantly a kid all over again. I LOVED this song when it came out… and still do!
I NEVER forgot it ,tho I surmise alot if ppl did ; due to fact I barely heard it again after mid 70s..I still rem every word 😏🌗📻☮️🌟🌕🌙and LOVE IT w a passion my twin sis + I were 10. We n our other ,2 siblings plated this n mannny others on our beloved blue record player in 74 etc. In fact we send each other songs all the time. I love this song, so great to hear it again! These dancers are fantastic and I wondered who they were.
My wife laughed at the dancers. But my jaw just dropped!!😲
silly isn't it :)
Yea, but they are REALLY GOOD... The one lady in the front obviously takes her job seriously :)
The blonde on the far left is gorgeous.
Me encanta este tema
Saludos desde Santiago de Chile
Honestly thought this was a modern band doing a retro-styled song and video. I'm no dance historian but that dancing looks way ahead of its time to me.
I think actually they playing the dance video backwards and it does very much look like the dances of today!!!
Amazing dancers.. I'm a professional keyboard player and these dancers are super good. Watch the feet... Bo performed at my JHS in the 70's because we won some contest collecting bubble gum wrappers... It wasn't that great, but lot's of fun... This is the best version of the tune...
I truly dig it!!
I 'discovered' it only a month ago. I have a vague memory that I have heard it before. Didn't remember the dance though. Love it.
This was good
This song was actually originally written by members of the band Jigsaw, who also recorded it in 1973.
Jigsaw of "" , Skyhigh" fame ,I assume u mean !!? Wow, a lil musical fact I didn't know! Thanks ! Seriously 😁! We ..my twin n I n our siblings loved these songs 📻🎵☮️ tho we were only 10...wow it sounds better and cheerier than ever ( the music 😁📻🎵) .in fact I just sent it to my sis ✨🌗🌙.Think I'll play more if their songs and then 🧩 jigsaw🧩 I LOVED Skyhigh ,still do !!✨thanx again for the infO☮️📻🌙
Recuerdo esta canción en la secundaria o en el instituto michigan
Great song - rediscovered it recently and can’t get it out of my head. Like others have already pointed out, it was originally performed by Jigsaw (“You’ve blown it all sky high”). Did BD&H do any original songs? They did “Billy don’t be a hero”, which is a cover of Paper Lace’s original. Yeah, the dance was not to this song but fits well. Girl in front so cute.
OMG goes so well with the Nitty Gritty! Well done OP!!
My fav song all time, great vid
thanks Nub. cheers; Dave
The dancers are from a 1961 TV program, well before this song was released.
Can't fool everyone, I've seen this footage with these dancers on other songs.
Excellent song, Fabulous video Dave, as usual. Thank you for sharing! 💖
I love this song. I love remembering the 70's.
If the late Dan Ingram were still alive, he would probably today introduce the song "And Now, Bo Donaldson and The Heywoods and Who Do You Think You Are, or what San Francisco 49ers owner Jed York asked his head coach Chip Kelly right before he fired him!"
Great video to a great song!
I enjoy the song. At 1st, I liked the dancing but couldn’t help but noticed there’s a lot of CGI! Pausing, reversing. Especially with the man I front.
Jigsaw had so many good songs espousing Love Fire...this one so rocks, too!
Just when you think you've seen every dance move known to man......
Very COOL!
I think this is where Elaine got her moves ! 😅
Ha! True! :)
This version is really good ~ but I like the version by Jigsaw better. It's a great song!! Love those dancer! only in the 70's could or would they dance like that!!❤️
The women's figures are gorgeous and they're doing everything the men are only in heels
I've always loved this song, but the visual is very entertaining, as well. I'm wondering who the dancers were and the type of music they were performing with?
I laughed thank you!
1974... La oi en Radio Capital en la ciudad de México... saludos
...especially...Love Fire
I had this 45!!
Early shuffledance!
Mike Gibbons was the perfect pop vocalist and Bo Donaldson't Heywoods were the perfect pop group.
These dancers are not dancing to this song. They are dancing to The Nitty Gritty by Shirley Ellis. It's funny how someone was able to make it look like they are dancing to a different song.
mission accomplished then :)
They are good though!
Great song, i love this video also/what was the original song to this video?

What is the name of the lead male dancer?? Talent transcends time!!
Who are the dancers? (Love this song)
Why does the lady on the left get cutoff?
My aged opinion....just seems people were more attractive then
Thought the same..loved those dresses then and now.. attractive but not showy

Can someone tell us which is the original video of the dancers please?

@@grantkoeller8911 Thankyou! I've been trying to figure this one out for awhile. The Nitty Gritty! '63. I was four when that came out, 14 when Bo Donaldson did "Who Do You Think You Are?" Puzzle solved!
Who ARE the dancers???
Anybody know if this video was made to look like an old production to fit the song, OR, this was just an old video with the same beat? I really can't tell.
the first thing!
@@daveinprogress3 The more I watch this the more I think you are right as they seem to be right in synch with the music. Very captivating video. The song hit when I was about 14 so it was magical to me!
@@paulwalker1443 I'm a naughty youtuber. I borrow ' footage to suit my purposes. I just loved the vision and thought it would work for the track. It is a fun song.....
After reading all the posts here, mystery solved. This was a clip of dancers doing a song called "The Nitty Gritty" by Shirley Ellis in late '63. The beat certainly works for "Who Do You Think You Are".

The women on this footage are dressed 1960's like for a song that was on the radio in 1974.

Todos y todas las demás desaparecen...el de enmedio se roba el escenario 😅
Lead girl can’t keep up with Bannas, she is constantly watching him trying to match his moves
