Self perception being your identity in the case of trans identity (Which is what I’m guessing you’re referencing) is very much not a conscious choice, with that being affirmed by effectively every legitimate institution from psychology, sociology, endocrinology and just a whole bunch of others

The feral Wolverine thing didn't happen until 2 years after his adamantium was removed. It actually happened when Genesis attempted to give Wolverine his adamantium back (using the adamantium from the recently deceased Cyber's arms) and it backfired, resulting in a feral Wolverine murdering Genesis and his Dark Riders.
Thank you for including Austen's X-Men on the list; I wasted so much money during that era.
You can also tell when a writer is reading back issues; that is how Waid got the "Professor X loves Jean" storyline.
Years from now, the Hickman era will be retconned (PLEASE) and the X-Men will return to its roots as a commentary on prejudice and stereotypes. We need this now as 2020 is the year of change...
Problem with them going back to being a Social Narrative device is that there are plenty of POC and LGBT characters now that deal with those same issues 99% of the time [they're just used to insert the writer's social commentary since they hardly ever fight actual villains] so what more can the X-Men actually do?
I loved that wolverine went full threw with his mutation. Not holding back anything. Plus Logan getting his memory back & reaction to X-Man is priceless.
The Ultimate line started off great, but as time went on the story-arcs started getting more and more depressing and I eventually lost all interest in keeping up with it.
The only comic form the ultimate universe that stayed pretty consistent was Spider-Man
The big problem for me was their need to kill characters in very pointless ways, they did it so much that the death were expected in every issue and they lost any impact.

Weapon X was his idea.
Don't forget beast hoof feet and angel being a race of angels while nightcrawler was a race of demons. Angel also had the ability to heal others.

The reveal in Onslaught that Xavier love Jean Grey didn't bother me as in his current state as Onslaught having him reveal this creepy fact added to how twisted was the villain so yeah. Worked for me.
Marvel trying to get rid of the x-men for the inhumans was just stupid on so many levels that we'll be here all day if i list all of the horrible ramifications of replacing the mutants for the inhumans.
the inhumans are cool and all but its stupid to get rid of the x men just for that.

Dont know if it was mentioned but the reason they did that was to lower the exposure for the movies they couldn’t put out. Its the same reason they put the fantastic four away for a while.

I want to forget any time they made Captain America into a dark, disturbed figure. It always seemed to be done in a "shocking" way but never a psychologically engaging way.
There was that time where they killed Xavier in the early comics, emphasizing that it wasn’t a trick, only to retcon that Xavier was alive with it being Changeling impersonating him that died.
That was definitely a WTF moment, all right.
3:35 Is bullshit. Because what’s glossed over is that Wolverine did have bone claws he didn’t regress because of. The reason he regressed was because of Cable’s son Genesis who took over Apocalypse’s(he was hibernating at the time) Egyptian lair and kidnapped wolverine and try to infuse the adamantium of the dead X-Men villain cyber but it backfired and made him regress making him more feral. Wolverines body was just healing itself after what had happened to it he eventually got back to normal it just took a minute. Do you research whatculture

X-Men are my favorite characters of all time, and I hated Marvel when they tried to replace them with the Inhumans, even though Inhumans are cool too. Curiously enough, the current status of X-Men is quite similar of that period of Inhumans, they are now a nation instead of a species, separated from the other countries with they internal government and laws, etc.
How did you feel when they reduced the number of mutants to about 198?
The ultimate universe in my opinion was actually tons of fun back in the day however the ultimate x-men in my opinion while wasn't bad some story arcs really felt just like repeats and shock value which that ain't fun that just lazy and boring however it wasn't all bad some stories i did like was when ultimate wolverine teamed up with ultimate daredevil and ultimate Spider-Man which was tons of fun at least in my opinion.

Seriously! I never liked the decision to include her on the team. She was a PERFECT villain... though I have to say, may favorite incarnation of her/story with her in it is the "Wolverine and the X-Men" cartoon from the late 00s.

Wish they would've taken my advice and cast Vin Diesel as Black Bolt, they could've made a proper Inhumans movie. I guarantee The Eternals is just a modified whatever-script-they-already-had-for-Inhumans-from-five-years-ago.

For Xavier being in love with Jean Grey I would say that as long as she's NOT under the age of consent
AND if it were to happen as long as they are in a mutually respectful relationship and can carry on deep meaningful and poignant conversations and neither is condescending to the other they should be able to have a healthy happy relationship.
The problem was at the time written, Jean was 15 or 16 as Marvel Girl. Xavier having romantic feelings for her was definitely inappropriate, not just for her age, but the nature of their relationship. It was exemplifying the teacher/student predatory relationship which ends up in the news every so often.
@@kevinbarnard355 if you notice in my initial comment I emphasised the aspect of age of consent. I never gave the impression that an underage girl should be involved in a romantic relationship with a legal adult. I was very clear on that.

Its often used to mean, if you protest more than is needed, people become more assured that you are lying. For example, if someone like Kevin points out how wrong Xavier's feelings were, and you starting foaming at the mouth protesting that you are not a pedophile sympathizer, people are very likely to believe you are.

Was she underage? The current AoC in NY is 17. I would imagine in the 60's it was probably 15 or 16. I'm not sure how old Charles was supposed to be back in those days either. I know he was called "Professor" but there is a difference between him being 23 as opposed to 33. So while yes, through a modern lens it would be illegal, back then I doubt it was.
Now creepy is a whole different conversation. The whole teacher/student power dynamic comes into play there.
The Magneto-Retcon was a necessity after Bendis just used him at the end of AVENGERS: DISASSEMBLED, wasn't it?

Liked your video. The feral Wolverine was kinda correct. When he got his adimantium ripped from his body in Wolverine #75 he was kinda feral but not all the way. Jubilee nursed him to health. So full Feral Wolverine was when Apocalypse added the adimantium back to Wolverine and he rejected it. This caused him to go feral and a bit before the Onslaught saga. Right after Onslaught Wolverine became regular at his old self. This is due to a change in Marvel's writing staff being fired. The adimantium poisoning came later.
But one question still remains... What happened to his nose?
Also, Wolverine started using an Image Inducer so that his new look wouldn't scare his foster daughter. I guess he never switched it off. :-D
What about the whole psylocke revanchist thing. It ended up cool for Betsy, but still pretty weird

As I heard, the idea that Northstar and Aurora were children of fairies was made because it was intended that Northstar would come out of the closet but the editors refused.
I hear it was because Northstar's illness was originally supposed to be AIDS, but they got cold feet and came up with some disease that Asgardian faries get or some such BS

Can I borrow your set of post-Kirby X-Men by Roy Thomas and Neal Adams? In my universe I do love the handful of issues Adams drew, the couple of issues from Steranko and even the ones Barry Smith did early in his career. Frankly I enjoyed most of the series from #1 on up until the reprints began but the majority of those were actually drawn by Werner Roth and at least one was by Don Heck. You know, if you're going to do a comic book trivia video, you might want to get your facts straight.

Every company makes mistakes. Or maybe they just love to take risks. It's certainly less expensive with comics. How about 8 artists (or more) that Marvel shouldn't have allowed to draw their comics series? There are some seriously horrific and downright ridiculous works out there. Emma Frost and the Hellfire Club for destabilizing Phoenix, which caused her to become Dark Phoenix. As Dark Phoenix, the D'barri world and people were wiped out along with the Shi'ar ship. Instead of never forgiving Emma Frost and the Hellfire Club, the X-men took a no harm no foul approach and let Emma Frost join their team years later. Never made sense to me.
Emma Frost was put into a coma from the dark Phoenix saga, by the Phoenix it was mostly mastermind who was responsible for Jean grey turning evil. Not saying that she was completely innocent, but do the hellfire club even know that Jean Grey killed a whole species of aliens? I don’t think they do...
I wish they could just go back . Forget all the BS . Take the good stories from the last 20/30 years and nix the rest. .

Yet they did stories like Feral Wolverine, the Adamantium killing him . No crazy Scott .

the thing about dropping the External Sam storyline... they didn't explain why Sam survived those grievous injuries. He was impaled by Sauron, a wound straight through the chest. Cable thought Sam survived that due to being External. But now? .. it's not explained that can remember.
Other embarrassing things? How about attempts to do a retcon but it gets dropped mid-story and never explained away. Like how they tried to make Kitty Pryde be a Neo, an offshoot mutant race. But only mentioned it in two issues and never picked it up again.
I wonder if Marvel Studios is going to use the Ultimate universe of the X-men or the 616 universe.
They already use many of the ultimate universe ideas for the MCU

Marvel retconned the Magneto is Xorn thing mere weeks after the Planet X storyline by having alive and well Erik Lensherr meet Prof X on Genosha. I never completely forgave Marvel for undoing the great stuff Morrison did. They depowered Beak (arguably the best new mutant he created) and focused on the sexy mutants like the Stepford Cuckoos.
Flawed but sympathetic mutants like Angel Salvadore and her chicken fly babies(!) were replaced by blink and you miss em generic students like Wing (wtf?), Armor and whoever those losers Bendis kept trying to make happen.
I think Morrison was too far out there for Marvel to keep up with, so they went back to what they knew.

Marvel tried their best to destroy all things X-Men and all things Fantastic Four in the 2000's. They almost did. They made X-Men into a second-rate series with terrible pathetic something to laugh at artwork. Long gone was the awesome stories and awesome artwork of the 80's and 90's for X-Men. The X-Men books just became comic relief at this time. I am surprised of how the series even survived at all in the 2000's and was not cancelled outright?
I prefer the ultimate universe. 616 is good, but too softhearted for my taste. I guess that's why I dropped Marvel altogether and went exclusively to reading only Image comics. At least they're not squeamish with the gore.
