      I sure hope Rick this has been a aggravation for too many years!! I'm looking forward to the test run also!! So far as she sits it hasn't leaked! At least I have not made it worse!

    have 😊😊 U looked at the parts manual U have there should be a parts break down of it it should've been a part no.and a size of the O RING 😊😊 have looked on line 2 find anything and there are CT tractor manuals that have more info 4 those tractor 🚜 😊 manuals I would try that and see how it is 😊😊 OMG 1 2O 2O24

      No the manual doesn't give the o- ring size. It has since been fixed. Look in the comments for the link to the video on what was actually happening.

    That's a cool little tractor, your restoration looks great. Hopefully your shop made gasket and o-ring do the trick.

    O ring is the pressure side, the other is the return side that's why the pressure relief cut goes to the return side. Greased paper gasket should have fixed the leaking.

    Hey Jason great video,maybe take the plate to a machine shop have it worked to take a oil ring on both suction and pressure lines.

      Kind of hard to explain but that can't be done but I tested it again after this video (first time failed) I may have it now. Did a modification. Video to come soon. Thanks for watching

    Oh we used to make paper gaskets by gently putting the material over the surface and use a small brass hammer to tap the gasket to shape.

    My dealer's parts list says the gasket is a 1/64th gasket but it is not available - so u gotta make it yourself!!!

      I always made my own gaskets. Look for the link in the comment section as to why it was leaking.

    I would take a flat file to the surface this would square the surface and lower the deck increasing the height of your O ring. I would make a thin paper gasket and give it a try.

      Surface was flat. Problem was I could not get the lines/pan tight enough to get it completely flat on the the control valve. I put studs in then used nuts and it's been holding up good. There is a follow-up video of this on my channel.

    Very nice job on your Pony. I jiust picked one up last year and am just getting around to starting the restooration. Your paint looks great. What brand of paint and what color code did you use? I am having a hard time finding the right color.

      Hi Jay!
      I used DuPont acrylic enamel on this Pony. The red is Rangoon Red the yellow I believe was Straw Yellow,but I'm not 100% sure of that however I found out later the John Deere Industrial Yellow that was used in the 70s and 80s is a identical match. I think I saved the paint labels off the cans and have them saved some place for the code numbers. If you go to a tractor show that has a lot of Massey Harris tractors to look at you will see a wide variety of shades. I don't think we exactly know the true shade anymore,but you can get close. The yellow is always debatable. Some will use the shade I chose or a more lighter color. I personally like the yellow I chose because I think it looks better.
      Another debated topic is engine color. A lot of the old manuals show a black engine. Not sure if they were or not. If they did it may not bin for every year. The hubs and lug bolts should be yellow too but a lot of people choose to do them red. Probably because it is easier to do and the contrasting colors look nicer in my opinion.

      @@Jason1Pa Thanks so much for replying back. The red on your Pony seems to have a very slight tint of orange which I like. At least it looks that way in the pics. I am finding that parts for the pony are harder to find than my Cubs and 8N, pricier too. I have been looking for 3 months for the side cover plate that covers the steering gear housing at the bottom of the steering shaft. Keep up the good work and I really enjoyed your video.

      @@jaybridwell7020 Yes I guess you can say it has a touch of orange. Depending on the light it is sitting in it looks different at times,but it is not RED RED like a Farmall..
      That steering part you need will need to be found used.

    Beautiful restoration! I’ve always liked these Massey Harris tractors. I think the bigger o ring that has a flat spot on either side is way better.
    Back then they usually used engine oil instead of hydraulic fluid on a lot of tractors.
    That punch looks a lot like an aerator time!

    the o ring is there to separate the in line from the out lines, stay away from instant gasket its just trouble, use a little grease on the paper gaskets for no leaks

      Ok that makes Sence. It does explain it in my one manual but it is kind of confusing. So basically the line with the o ring is always pushing oil into the control valve but the up and down motion is controlled by the two holes in that chamber that's what I call it anyway. It's just odd that at 1000 psi they are relying on the gasket only to seal the area around the chamber. Thanks for your help!!

      @@Jason1Pa the surface area of the paper gasket can take more pressure than people think its why the seal surface is so wide, a thin paper gasket works so well but never use thicker paper as that will blow a leak,
      its very simple tech that just works

    Do they make rebuild kits for the lift cylinder? Mine is starting to leak and I want to replace the seals.

      No I've never seen any kits. Probably best to take it to a local hydraulic shop of some sort

    Frank deegan has good ideas, maybe change the oil again, the hat is fine. Hopefully the O ring works. It would be nice to know the o ring size. If things are flat. Maybe move on to the pump , but I don’t think it can put out that much pressure to make it leak with the right oil in it. Good luck Do like your videos

      I've already thought of Frank's ideas. This is the first time I tried a fatter o-ring so hopefully that will work. Yeah these pumps are only putting out 1,000 psi tops and there is nothing that can be done to tone it down. We'll see once the weather breaks what will happen. Thanks for watching!

    My massey harris pony doesnt even have hydraulics. It has a manual lifter

      All Pony's before 1950 had manual lift.

    why couldn't you surface the two flats to reduce warp-age and allow for a thicker gasket.

      The two surfaces are not warped. Even if I did machine them down the area where the O ring sits and the area where the relief hole and gallery is would almost be completely taken away. Not a good idea. I think now with this modified I ring I will be ok. Thanks for watching!

    Whaaaat, has the superman of the N series Ford finally found his kryptonite in the little Massey Haris?! Lol, I bet you got it with that thicker O-ring. Just a wild guess but, I'm speculating the small O-ring being almost flush with the casting and then a gasket creating more tolerance was a big part of the problem. Funny you posted this tractor, there is one literally a mile from my house. I couldnt tell what it is as its a darker red with no decals but it is identical to yours. Now Im curious what they are asking for it. You know how that goes with tractors tho. Once you inquire the next thing you know your explaining to wifey how it was such a good deal you just had to buy it, lol.

      LOL Yeah this little gem has had its fair share of kryptonite that's for sure!! So far just sitting there it hasn't leaked. May take it out tomorrow if it's a little warmer for a test. I think it's a sign to you that you better go look at that tractor!! I always check if I spot one because I want a "Pacer" that is the big brother to the Pony. I wouldn't say they are RARE but they are not common. They look just like the Pony only it's about 4 to 6 inches longer cause of a slightly lager engine. So don't worry about the wife yet. You may have found your next project👍

    Ideas
    1 change the hat lol
    2 check the top plate to see if it is warped
    3 check the bottom casting is flat also.
    4 use a large sharpie coat one side of the mating surfaces and set them back together and move them around slightly and look for high spots
    5 coat both surfaces with the sharpie and wipe them off and look for cracks
    6 possibly get a new file and file some of the casting so that the o ring sets a little bit taller
    7 delete this post before anyone sees it cause you think I am nuts
    8 Good luck with the latest fix

      LOL I figured someone would say something about the hat. My sweat shirt has faint print of CaseIH on the front. Hard to see.
      I have checked for flat surfaces in the past it seems fine. The Sharpie trick would work if there was slack in the metal lines to actually move the pieces back and forth. Thanks for the tips or ideas. That's why I did the video. I've run out of ideas.
