    Great progress and nice to see new things and looking forward to hear in person. But not many people play above the 9th fret (let alone the 12th) in acoustic. The 2 tier cutaway is cool. But again nice to see innovation.

    • @TheSilence1
      @TheSilence1 6 лет назад +3

      Perhaps people traditionally didn't play those high notes because they didn't sound good on the guitar designs of their day. If we have the opportunity to play anywhere we like on better designed guitars we shouldn't stick to the same old same old. They were limited. We don't have to be.

      The Golden River so you actually got to play one? I was curious because intonation is typically a nut/bridge/fret thing and bracing has nothing to do with intonation outside of keeping the top in place. I actually went and tried all of the things on a Taylor 214ce deluxe and achieved the exact same intonation as in the videos. No issues at all for a guitar with straight frets. Flawless intonation would require micro-tonal frets or something such as true temperament frets. I do believe that the bracing has massive impact on tone, sustain, volume and such but intonation seems wildly inaccurate.

      Dark7string
      No I haven't played V class bracing in person. But the notes in the high register are noticably cleaner to me.
      You have to remember that the notes you hear on a guitar are really layers of harmonic frequencies. Some of them are fundamental. Others are simply overtones in that harmonic series.
      Sure, well built guitars like Taylors, have no problems handling notes in high registers.
      But high frequencies reveal flaws in tuning and temperament. Why?
      Because high frequencies JUMP out at you. They cut through.
      Humans are physically more sensitive to treble. Especially around 1k. Any sound engineer can tell you that.
      Why does a bass amp in a band require 150 watts, while the guitarist only needs about 60?
      Because treble cuts better.
      Bass requires more energy, but can (potentially) carry farther than treble.
      What affects the amount of bass and treble in a guitar?
      Bracing.

    • @ValentinTeodorTamas
      @ValentinTeodorTamas 6 лет назад

      Dark7string
      You are correct however.
      Scale, fret design, & tuning are what actually affect intonation.

      The Golden River haha that article is already funny. I am a classical guitarist and extremely picky about guitars. Infact, many classical guitar players I know (and myself) will choose a luthier by asking how they feel about steel string guitars. The ones that don't touch them because they don't like them, are typically going to build you a classical that can plow over any martin or Taylor in volume and tone you have ever heard. Typically, steel string companies such as Taylor, make the worst nylon strings you can buy. Dead and lifeless response out of the the treble strings. No volume or projection.
      Now with the v brace, I am very intrigued because most people complain that Taylor's are too bright. Ironically I am a recording engineer as well so those frequencies you describe make perfect sense. But Even the low energy is focused rather high on taylors. They are very "ringy" or "pinched nose sounding. But I like that for lead playing a lot. Modern bracing ideas are very awesome and I am curious to see how this does.

    I am curious to understand how bracing affects the intonation? As a research junkie I can't seen to locate any information that would support that claim

    • @ValentinTeodorTamas
      @ValentinTeodorTamas 6 лет назад +1

      Dark7string What it does is it makes the guitar evenly tempered ALL the way up the neck.
      Acoustics have a tendency to get thinner and sharper in pitch the further you go up.
      The bracing controls the movement of the bridge. The bridge has to move in complex ways to properly produce good tone.
      Precisely why guitars that have aged and been played in sound so amazing. The wood has relaxed, letting the bridge go to work.

    • @tedrowland7800
      @tedrowland7800 6 лет назад +5

      Dark7string: If you keep the bridge and saddle from moving, which is really tough on an acoustic because a great deal of the sound comes from the top vibrating, then intonation is improved. With X bracing, some projection is lost by keeping the top too rigid on too much surface area. Intonation is good with X bracing, provided you don't wind up with a "humidity sweat between the 14th through 22nd fret., which cannot be adjusted by the truss rod, because of the fret board being glued over top of the body of most guitars. Taylor took care of that by laser cutting the top (body) around the fret board, and extending the truss rod along the entire neck. They patented this design, and no one else in the industry has it. That solved one intonation problem, and now the V bracing stabilizes the bridge, without making the entire top rigid. Result is improved projection, and solid intonation along the entire instrument.

    • @Adamfront
      @Adamfront 6 лет назад +2

      The simple answer is that bracing does not affect intonation to any measurable degree.

    • @procarpenter1788
      @procarpenter1788 3 года назад

      @@ValentinTeodorTamas no. No no no. Everything you said is absolute shit. It might vibrate better, but the frets and bridge and nut and neck relief and action are what determine the intonation. Jesus Christ, it's physics.

    "You feel the extra money in your bank account if you're being paid to endorse these things." So, when is Taylor gonna come up with their new "Y" bracing? (I hear X is already taken.) Let's make it all the way through the alphabet! Maybe eventually you won't even have to fool with tuners - the thing will just jump right into tune. And of course, strategy counts - don't stick this "revolutionary" bracing on just any old model, associate it with the high-end stuff so as to give it more acceptance as a big deal.
    And if it is in fact such a big deal and the greatest thing since the zipper, why not roll it out as quickly as possible on all models? After all, braces aren't made out of solid gold. Ooh, I just gotta have that new bracing - I'm gonna pay five or six thousand bucks to get it! Gimme a break - have you ever heard such hype since Kaman rolled out those ridiculous Ovation guitars? (Which everyone and their grandmomma was paid to endorse back in the day.) Could this company _be_ any more goofy with this silly over-the-top hype? But hey - I wanna guitar that Taylor Swift plays! I'm on board!!

    • @mragunathan1627
      @mragunathan1627 6 лет назад

      Exactly. If this was some revolutionary technological breakthrough in guitars, it should automatically be a part of all their guitars, since it wont cost anything extra to carve a piece of wood different. I respect Taylor for their conservation work, but this kinda shit ruins that veneer real quick. Not to mention its disrespectful to the guys *cough* (Martin), who's X-bracing and dreadnought and OM style they've been building off for years. If you've done something new, be respectful to your colleagues.

      I compared a 914ce with V bracing to two luthier built OM's with a traditional Martin style bracing...I liked the Taylor the least..it was a very nice instrument and for what it brought to the table I am sure some people will love it. I think guitarists having more options is great and I think Taylors are great too. But does the V bracing change the game? No, I don't think so.
