Honestly, I couldn't even tell that Harumi was nervous. Even though she forgot one minor movement, she didn't let that show in the rest of her performance. Harumi has learned quite well in the 9 months since she began. Bravo!
Yes, that is what seperates the amateur wannabes from true performing artists! We amateurs can't recover from the smallest mistakes and the rest of the performance suffers as a result. But true artists can not only recover but grow from it!
I’m amazed at how the Sensei can do all those moves, but only breath through her nose, and not open her mouth. Her facial expression didn’t look tired at all. Very cool! Harumi was also very beautiful and graceful!
I can easily imagine your daughter's reaction to seeing her mom dressed up special and looking so happy! I remember those seemingly rare occasions that my mom got to dress up for a very special occasion. For a child it's almost like Mommy must be magical! Both performances were wonderful!!!
I think this dance is a perfect example of the culture of Japan that you are seeking to preserve. It combines graceful motions of the feet, hands, head, and even eyes in a pantomime that tells a story. It is very beautiful and I enjoyed it completely. I hope for your success in your quest.
It adds so much atmosphere when Harumi adds the makeup and has the full space of the stage to move around. We can get a bit of the idea from the training livestreams, but this was the full experience. 👏👏👏
You can tell Harumi spent a lot of time practicing--her movements seem so confident and precise! ... and she's so graceful too!!! It's hard to imagine her preforming hip-hop dancing! ☺️
Actually, a number of cities in the US have Nihon Buyō instructors and performers in them. Especially if you live in a city with a large Japanese diaspora community, I'd recommend looking to see if there's any performers in your area
Thank you for posting about Nihon Buyo. I actually took my first lesson yesterday via Zoom! Like Harumi-san, I use to do a lot of other styles of dance like ballet, modern and aerial and it’s just exciting learning a new dance style. Yay Harumi! You look beautiful! とてもきれいでした!
I am not qualified to comment but personally, I really enjoyed Harumi’s performance. It was lovely and graceful. I did not see the “mistake” because Harumi maintained her poise perfectly. Thank you for sharing this beautiful video. The teacher’s dance is formidable! She certainly deserves her reputation. Lovely ❤
Thank you for including subtitles of what was said in the beginning. It really helped give context and set the mood of the performance. I could imagine a young girl watching cherry blossoms fall in early spring. Harumi was so beautiful and graceful! I hope she continues!
Hearing Harumi speak about how earnestly she wanted to chase her goals made my heart so warm! I hope she continues to succeed! This was a beautiful watch!
This was so beautiful! Shizuki Sensei is fabulous! And Harumi is so graceful. I have no doubt she can become a professional Nihon buyo dancer. I so enjoyed every moment of her dance. Excellent Harumi!!👏👏👏❤️
Well done, Harumi. I was like hypnotized... you danced so gracefully and you looked so beautiful. So many moves, and you learned them all in such a short while? To me that only means that you DO have a great talent for this and want to master dancing. Keep following your dream, Harumi...because you do belong there on stage. Wonderful performance. Madam Shizuki "makes" it look so effortless, so fluent... Simply ..beautiful and fantastic
Both dances were so beautiful. Harumi was the prettiest looking lady there, too. And her sensei's grace of movement was a wonderful sight to behold. Thank you for the video and thank you to Wakayagi Shizuki for letting you film her.
Such a treat! I did Nihon buyo for 10 years and my sister has her natori from the Bando school. I'm pretty sure she did both of the dances in this video! It's interesting to see the differences between schools.
Im new to seeing things like this, but this made me cry. For some reason, it made me think of my partner, who passed away 8 years ago. It had a romantic feel to it, but there was a sense of sadness. I think Harumi gave a beautiful performance!
Wow Harumi! To remember such a complicated dance routine is really very difficult. I’ve done classical ballet, jazz dance, street dance, flamenco and Kathak (indian classical dance) amongst others, in the past so I know a little bit of what I am talking about. It was mesmerising and I sincerely hope you’ll continue. Best of luck to you and ganbatte ne❣️
I like the the fact that Harumi has experience with a lot of different forms of dance. It is interesting to see a person with experience in one discipline, pick-up skills in another.
Growing up and watching this type of dance I have always been drawn to the elegance and grace that is shown within the dance. Harumi done amazing for the first dance and shows great promise, I really hope she sticks with it and we get to see her growth. So beautiful. Thank you for sharing this.
✋🥳🤚 Yayy Harumi & Shizuki Sensei 👏👏👏 Both The Stories Of The Dancers Was Incredible! And Very Educational In The Culture Which Is A Plus ✌️😁! I’m So Glad Everyone Enjoy The Show!
Harumi's performance was absolutely stunning! The poise and graceful movements of the fan and kimono. Beautiful. Just beautiful. Shizuki Sensei's performance was just something else altogether. Harumi's dance was so soft and wistful, but Shizuki Sensei's was commanding and powerful. The difference in energy is striking and yet both were so incredibly elegant. Thank you so much for sharing this with us.
Oh 🤩 WOW!! Absolutely beautiful and graceful! Harumi, you are an amazing performer!! Your sensei’s performance was so wonderful! This was a such a treat to wake up to this video. Thank you 🙏🏼
So beautiful! Great job Haruni! I think i never seen such excellence in Japanese dancing as the performance of Shizuki. The dance is so complex and her execution is beyond words. Breath taking.❤
“Mama-sensei” had me in tears how precious 🥹🥹🥹❤️ great job harumi-San! You did amazing!! I know it isn’t easy that’s for sure switching such vastly different styles of dance; I have a friend who did ballet most his life and then turned to hip hop. Completely different form and movesets
thank you for sharing the experience, Shogo, Harumi and family☺️♥️♥️. all the best to all. performer working hard for the art. its all interesting and beautiful.♥️
Such beauty, such grace. It has been sometime since I’ve experienced such emotions for some thing that it’s not native to my culture. Thank you so much for posting this.
Harumi did wonderful although she doesn't make the the stage sparkle she made it shine and rain with petals. You done amazing so happy to see your journey
Harumi, thank you for sharing your beautiful dance performance. You are very graceful, beautiful , and talented. So well done and I look forward to future dance videos.
OMEDETŌGOZAIMASU, HARUMI-SAN!!! Beautifully danced!! ❤❤❤ And congratulations team Shogo on how beautifully this was FILMED!! Thank you so much for doing it with a 3-camera setup so we never missed a turn or expression. EXCELLENT job everyone!!
Thank you for sharing this journey, and explaining the dances to us. Nihon-buyo is something I never would have been able to experience otherwise and its really beautiful and peaceful to watch.
It's truly beautiful seeing the Nihon-buyo dancers doing a dancing performance, Harumi's Maiko dance was really elegant and gracefully lovely. Thank you so much for a great video!
So graceful and gorgeous!! Lovely hair and hair decoration, matches kimono so beautiful. 🌺🌸 Thank you for sharing this very special performance Harumi. 🙏
Thank you for being able to share the two dances with us. A rare treat indeed. As for the mistake, that's the sign of a true artist. If you recognize your mistake but the audience doesn't notice. Even gymnasts and figure skaters performing their routines, if they fall or not land a tumble. Move right along don't even draw attention to it. Illustrators and I am sure content creators, do it with the physical or digital medium. To themselves, the flaws are highlighted with a bright spotlight on the mistakes. But for the rest of the world, we are too enamored with the entire performance or piece. Fantastic work. Thank you again. I have two questions though, how does Harumi's family respond to her studying and doing a Japanese cultural dance and what do the white banners/flags/really wide ribbons that her sensei used in hers represent. I know the Koreans use ribbons a lot in their dances, but this was the first time I've seen such wide lengths of fabric used in a dance. To do all of that movement for so long, in a Kimono, and NOT fall on her face. If I was to practice that it would be years before I could master it. Just to get that endurance, coordination, and healing of the bruising/broken noses from tripping myself and making a face plant.
Hello Shogo, Harumi, and family. Thank you Harumi for sharing your beautiful dance with us, I loved it. You dance so beautifully and you speak English very well. I hope you will share more of your dancing in the future. Tom from the US
If it's even possible, Harumi looked even more beautiful in this video. She's such a pretty lady and her dance was wonderful - you wouldn't even know it was the first time she'd danced in front of an audience if nobody had said. Well done, Harumi!
I must say as a westerner we seems to be more flashy and fast, this is pretty cool how fluent movement and rhythm the song goes. The outfits are just beautiful, that gives you a tear in your eye with a smile. Harumi did excellent performance, as she kept calm that looks natural. I wonder if any inspiration from gypsies or belly dancers? If I tried to dance I, would had fall down and trip over my feet. Also, thank you allows us to see what goes in the dance stages and with the camera recording, it felt I was right their. I would love to buy a par of those outfits to my future wife someday.
So Harumi studies Wakayagi-Ryū? That’s so cool. I’m really excited. I’m taking my first Nihon Būyo lesson this Friday through zoom. I’ll be studying Onoe-Ryū ❤
Unfortunately I wasn't informed about this video by RUclips (again), which is why I only watched it now. -.- Even though I hardly understand any of the singing (my Japanese is still pretty bad), I have to say that I have become quite a fan of Nihon Buyo. I sincerely hope that there will be many more who will preserve the old dances and traditions!

I guess she took that from her experience as a modern/hip hop dancer
From hip hop to Nihon Buyo is such a steep learning curve. The precision and detail is incredible. Congratulations.
Wow this was amazing 👏 👏 👏
I’m amazed at how the Sensei can do all those moves, but only breath through her nose, and not open her mouth. Her facial expression didn’t look tired at all. Very cool!

I live in Japan, but I don't usually come into contact with this kind of Japanese culture, so it was very refreshing!
Harumi looked beautiful and so graceful. I couldn’t see a mistake. Her performance was so elegant. ❤❤❤❤

I am in USA and enjoyed this video SO MUCH!

I didn't get it at first but it made more sense once I realized that the dancer is playing every role.
Hearing Harumi speak about how earnestly she wanted to chase her goals made my heart so warm! I hope she continues to succeed! This was a beautiful watch!

She was so graceful and posed! Thank you for sharing something so special! ☺️

I saw some of Shizuki-sensei’s modern dance videos and they were awesome! I hope she will post more.
Such a treat! I did Nihon buyo for 10 years and my sister has her natori from the Bando school. I'm pretty sure she did both of the dances in this video! It's interesting to see the differences between schools.
Harumi is an amazing dancer 😊

Breathtaking form, really glad to see that everything went so well. With a teacher that talented it comes as no surprise!
