"Krokstav" means a wooden cane (walking stick). While "emne" means a rough piece/material of something, which can be shaped into something. He's singing that not all (tree) seeds blow to where the soil is best. Some seeds land where the hill/rock is steep. But still, all living things wants to grow (dream big), even if fate might not be fair. While the twigs on the sunny side of the rocks grew straight, the ones in shaded side grow crooked. He ends by saying that you shouldn't go looking for cane material on the sunny side.
Can't say for sure how to interpret the song. But, to me, it's saying that even if you didn't have the best start in life, you can still find a purpose. Or, it could just be a song about a wooden cane
