Hi! Thanks for reaching out with your question. Yes, it is possible for two compounds to have the same empirical formula. This is because the empirical formula is the simplest whole number ratio of atoms in a compound. However, the molecular formula is the actual number of atoms in a molecule of a compound. For example, the molecular formula of acetic acid is C2H4O2, while the molecular formula of glucose is C6H12O6.
Sir why do we have to divide Molecular mass by Empirical mass to find out Molecular Formula? I mean why mass? I know n = Molecular mass/ Empirical mass, not Mf/Ef, because if we divide Mf by Ef it’s going to be wrong but like why mass then? I mean i know that maybe it is the only way to get "n" but why so? Why mass, not something else? What is the relation between Molecar formula and molecular mass and empirical formula and empirical mass that we are using this as an alternate way to find out n instead of using mf/ef in this formula
