I went and checked the original dance practice video and Jimin did the same choreo timing where you thought he might have made a mistake/was late. He's done the same before, so I think it's the right choreo - he just joins the formation at the last second. Yes, it was pre-recorded in the Seoul Worldcup stadium. I'm pretty sure all their award ceremony performances were pre-recorded this past year.
Jimin wasn't off, there is a member missing, there is 6 not all 7 members, just a hole where Suga should have been (he had shoulder surgery) so it looks off, it's not, Jimin had to slide fast in to Sugas spot.
They lack one member which is Suga, that's why there's spaces in Jimin's choreo, makes it look like he misses a beat but not, because that's what Sugas part to move and join the group before Jimin. ☺️

At the beginning with the band matching off screen, it was a space issue. The performance was done on a soccer field where they had more space to do the marching properly. ON is my favorite choreography by BTS and I lost my damn mind when I saw this performance unfold. The scale of the performance was everything this song deserves, only 2 things could make it better, Yoongi's presence and an actual marching band. I just love that they brought in all these elements that you see at marching band competitions.
I think it’s supposed to create a sort of ripple effect at that part. Like one person starts and one by one they all follow. They do that in all the live performances of ON

As V was moving to the middle while dancing RM moved in then Jin moved in then J-Hope then Jungkook, the members on the back were joining in the choreography one by one and Jimin was the last one to join in. You should watch their Kinetic Manifesto performance of ON.
Jimin isn't late it is part of the choreo you can check their stage (small) performance I guess due to camera works, he isn't part in the frame at first then join by when they all bow down.
Jimin is one of the best dancer in K-pop if you want to see more about his dance. Pls reaction 2 side of Jimin, jimin solo dance. And one thing in this stage suga was miss he got injured

Please make sure before you start explaining to your audience everyone makes mistakes that it is actually a mistake. Jimin as always was on point and executed the choreography flawlessly. As a mother of a professional dancer who has traveled the world you should know that people look to you for expertise, and I feel in this case you failed your viewers.

Don’t know if you noticed or not but Jin was a little stiff but he’s always a little stiff but that’s because he’s actually not that great of a dancer by himself BTS actually voted whose the worst dancer in the group and they said it was Jin and RM they’ve always said this since their debut days I just want to point out that they have both improved so much All of them have worked so hard to be where they are today with al the set backs and all the criticism

I think the 1st group those are school band volunteers who offered to be part of the show but the 2nd group is the paid group like dancers whom they've used as back up on some of their dances. I think the performance was in a stadium so too much field to cover thats what they brought on so many and the stadium was empty too

as a dancer/choreo myself,, that's how i normally watch BTS dance practice videos... i pause, rewind like a lot of times as well because we notice the little things that made the whole routine amazing.
