One of Ghosts defining features is how well they understand how a solo should fit with the melody of the song while still maintaining some of that show offy-ness of a solo.
That is the first thing I noticed on the first song I heard by them. Another band that does that exceptionally well is Blind Guardian. Check out songs Mirror Mirror or Nightfall!
The original name is just "Ghost", The B.C. Had to be added for copyright issues outside of Sweden. In fact, among the fans and/or the band members there was the joke that "B.C." stood for "Because Copyright".
But Mephistopheles is a character from Germanic folklore. And if I remember right, while he's a kind of servant for Lucifer, he's in his own personal hell.
Ghost puts on one of the best, funniest yet still spooky performances I’ve ever seen. Definitely dive into some more ghost, each album is so different. Con Clavi Con Dio, Ritual, He Is, Faith, so many options!
Welcome. Now you’re here forever lol . Just saw them last week In Chicago . Life changing show . Been going to metal shows since the 90s and never have seen anything like ghost live . Can’t even explain what I saw tbh. Rock opera I guess
Just leaving a comment to show some appreciation. I'm not normally into reaction videos or channels but I've got to say that your commentary and musical knowledge really elevates the actual songs for me. I accidentaly stumbled upon your Twenties reaction video, being a Ghost fan I was curious to hear some different opinions since the song seems to be pretty devisive among both fans and critics. After watching that video I quickly went through the rest of your Ghost reactions ^^ Being a a father, who is currently on parental leave with my 14 month old boy, I also appreciate your Encanto content on the channel. That movie is played atleast once a day in my household... Props and keep up the good work, from a new fan in Sweden :)
Wow, thank you so much! My daughter plays the movie soundtrack every night to go to sleep. It’s hilarious. It will be interesting hearing the full album and where the context of these new songs sit. I’ve experienced not liking a new single from a band until I heard it on the full album and then it grew on me!
Really appreciate a lot of the different takes you guys have had on these songs (been binging your Ghost episodes). I appreciate the more technical look into these songs that a lot of other music reaction channels are lacking. Although the one thing I would like to defend is the fade-out: Argument #1: Making strict rules in music is a bad way of handicapping yourself for no reason in the future. I had recently learned that Bruce Dickinson at one point was super anti-synth. "You can’t play heavy metal with synthesizers." Then eventually they embraced the synth and made killer (inaccurate pun intended) albums with Somewhere In Time & Seventh Son. Argument #2: I think it can be very thematic and even the only correct way to (not) end a song. Whether you love or hate the song "We Didn't Start the Fire" it is super thematic to let that song fade out rather than try to impose an ending on a song about a fire that is destined to burn perpetually. Anyway, can't wait for the rest of the Impera review! :)
A UK band called Status Quo do thei guitar solos like that, they are melodic, and not just frantic shredding, check out their early stuff from the 70s, like Backwater, Don't Waste My Time, Roll Over Lay Down etc
The Ghost B.C. name being used in the US was due to another band having the rights to the Ghost name. Now I don't have a source for this, but I remember hearing that the B.C. reportedly stood for Because Copyright :P
Ghost B.C.. it had to have that addition due to possible copyright because there was a lower-level band already called Ghost. So the name was changed (only in printed format) to Ghost B.C. which stood for Ghost (Before Copia)... yes, the entire story and catalog up until 2022 was written in advance. It's all written from beginning to end already. Its not just the music, its a story as well. I mean, how else do you step outside of what's already been done? Actually know what you will be doing 10 years down the road. The changes, sound changes, musical changes.... all planned. All pre-written and ready... get ready for the next one.
It was because of copyright . There already was other bands named Ghost. But it's sorted out now and it's only Ghost. Tobias actually was a Death Metal singer from the start. That band was Repugnant and you can watch old videos of them here on RUclips. Call me little sunshine is a qoute from Alistair Crowley. If you look at the album cover there is more references to him.
Thanks for the info! That's what I figured happened with their name! Can you recommend which album or song I should check out first that gives the best example of their music? I wasn't sure if this was an odd song for them or a good representation of their classic sound. Cheers!
@@FlameImperishable Why not take it from the start? Listen to the first song Tobias ever wrote for Ghost. Stand By Him. Search for Stand By Him Live Argentina 2014. Awesome version with insane crowd .
Original band name is just Ghost. Only on the US market they had to change name to Ghost B.C. because of legal dispute with another already established artist with the same artist name. In the rest of the world they've always been just Ghost
Nice reaction👀 I hope you listen to a variation of their songs, the truth is that they may be playing the happiest song in the world, but nevertheless their lyrics will be the darkest, as well as the song with the most satanic sound, but with their lyrics, well their lyrics will remain dark, as a fan of the band, I recommend listening to Year Zero / Mummy Dust / Kiss The Go Goat / Rats / Ritual
Thanks! I'll look into those songs next! I love it when bands subvert our expectations with seemingly dark music, happy lyrics or happy music, dark lyrics. It takes me back to the early days with In Flames when they were one of the first death metal bands writing songs in major keys.
Blue Oyster Cult is a big influence . Its not as a happy song as you think. He is singing from the devils point of view. Asking the weak to Call on him he will always be there .
Little sunshine is a reference to "Morning Star" more commonly known as"Lucifer" and that is why it's followed by the line "call me Mephistopheles" a demon that served lucifer and would laed you dancing to his master... You will never walk alone let's us know that Satan is beside us at all times and you only need to ask for his acceptance
Good reaction. The theme of the song is that Satan is your friend. In the chorus he says "Little Sunshine (Call me) Call me Mephistopheles". Mephistopheles is another word for Satan. Ghost pokes fun at the Christian religious concepts all the time. The band is not Satan worshipers themselves, but use Satan worship to satirically make fun of some of the Christian traditions.
Huh, interesting. Glad you enjoyed the reaction! 😀 My impression was that they are more geared towards satire against the Catholic Church rather than Protestant Christianity. Just doing a quick Google search, it seems Mephistopheles is not Satan per say, but a demon servant of Satan, out of the Faust legend. If I’m not mistaken, I think Kamelot used the Faust lore for their albums Epica and The Black Halo and the demon Mephistopheles played a key role in the story!
@@FlameImperishable ...good homework!! I could be wrong but as someone had explained it, Mephisto was a Demon ( in a German novel) who collect the souls of people who past on from corrupted ways. You might have seen it by now, but the music video ( brilliant by the way) shows the girl turning to opium when her life of grind gets effected by tragedy...this is in correlation to a life of hell when dependant to a drug or substance when struggling in life. Brilliant song!!❤️
One thing I hate about "reaction videos" is the constant pausing! Just listen to the song, and give your reaction/opinions at the end!!! You guys literally cut it off right at best parts!!!
It's not production. They do all this live flawlessly with like 8 members.
its true, they kill it live.

Saw them live on 1/27 in Seattle. They are absolutely fantastic. I’ve been a fan since 2016 .
Such a killer song. That beginning riff. Takes you a dark journey . I got a feeling this will be .a huge production live .
Lucifer means Morning Star or Light Bringing and Aleister Crowley was quoted as saying 'call me little sunshine' in court
But Mephistopheles is a character from Germanic folklore. And if I remember right, while he's a kind of servant for Lucifer, he's in his own personal hell.

Con Clavi Con Dio, Ritual, He Is, Faith, so many options!
He can growl too, he does it sometimes in Mummy Dust live, and in his other projects such as Repugnant
One of my favs especially live.
Saw them Feb 4th in Lincoln, totally agree, they are phenominal live. Hell of a stage presence
No pun intended? 😉
From what I understand The singer Tobias does writing and recording himself and the band is only for live performances
Welcome. Now you’re here forever lol . Just saw them last week In Chicago . Life changing show . Been going to metal shows since the 90s and never have seen anything like ghost live . Can’t even explain what I saw tbh. Rock opera I guess
I can imagine the stage theatrics are fantastic!
They wear their influences on their sleeve and it's so cool.
Great review/reaction. Really liked you guys. Cheers from Brazil
Im proud of Ghost..they from sweden like me! This is a Great song!
Awesome! Sweden is home to the greatest metal bands of all time in my opinion! Soilwork, Falconer, In Flame, Opeth, just a few on my favorites 😁
Everytime I hear this song , I picture like a modern day children of the corn kind of vibe
and if the video: Doctor Sleep Rose the Hat

I love how _sinister_ that organ makes the last chorus
He growls in Faith. In the beginning, you really have to listen in the studio version. But live you can hear it so well

Haha great points! As a composer I always want to make these grand dramatic finale endings on all of my music.
Nice reaction! keep up the good work, recommends Year zero, Rats, Ritual, Monstarance Clock, Mummy Dust, Square Hammer and Circe!

Nice! Thanks for The recommendations!
Zenith is one of their best songs but never played live. 😢

You got it!
Give a listen to Cirice, Faith, Rats, and Ritual!
We did Cirice, check the playlist! :)
Dance Macabre is one I would recommend reacting to.
@@TheShaneCarter We did it a few weeks ago! Check it out on our playlist! :)
Little sunshine is an Alister Crowley reference
David Gilmour best at guitar leads fitting songs structure.
Moustache? Oh, right... I see it now. (-; ••• Thanks. PEACE!!!
Subbed for ghost! Nice reaction !
Dude, thank you so much! Definitely going to listen to more Ghost coming up!
Little sunshine....in more that you think hahaha
Can't get the flow if you keep stopping it in the middle of the chorus.
There’s a fine balance between getting blocked for copyright infringement. We’re doing our best! 💪
don,t skip legday!..
next song... MUMMY DUST :)
Great discussion.
Why is your right arm so much bigger than your left?
Haha, just a weird camera angle illusion. 😉
Lmao yea Ghost doesnt do growls. I think the closest they do is in Mummy Dust.
Tobias is quite literally growling in Mummy Dust. Same technique as he did in Repugnant.
@@impulse4079 Yea I agree, but I've always thought it was more like whisper growling lmao. Its not like a deep, rumbling growl.
hey which track is this, the Solo is different from the Official Video!!
RUclips version is 50 seconds shorter.
Spotify!
"Call me little sunshine" is a Satan reference, one of Satan's names is Morning Star. And I think the wording ciomes from a Crowley quote
Unsun … whispers
