Thanks Devin, both for getting this video made and also testing with us while we try to get the feature out!
Final spec - We will have a total of 35 seconds and also lower sample rates that will give you more time. You can drop the bit depth from 16 to 12 or 8 bit as well. You can have 8 possible samples spread across the note range per patch that can be assigned any where on the keyboard. You can do looping with either equal gain or equal power crossfades with a settable crossfade length for each sample. And each multi-sample can be tuned independently. Any or all of the oscillators can be samples in addition to our other three oscillator types.
Amazing work Bob and team! Pinning this so others can see.
@@MilesAwayOfficial Hiya can it actually sample in 8 bit or do you convert that in software form 16 bit? IE is it an 8 bit sampler? Many thanks.
Thanks for this, Devin. We're hugely grateful for your assistance in getting the word out. Beautiful demo, too. : )
Beautiful demo for a beautiful synth.
@@dankeplace thanks!
Always a pleasure my friend! Want to spread the word of this amazing synth!
Well, it's official - the 3rd Wave stays on top of the "synth of the decade" list so far. Ordering another one ASAP!
Order 2, get me 1 2!!!!
I can't wait til you get yours back man! Make another video, your first one is iconic!
@@MilesAwayOfficial count on it, brother 😁👊🏻
I am also Loki g forward to your video on this!
3rd wave and udo imop
First video I’ve seen that made me want a 3rd wave. Wow! This is an incredible synth, and an incredible demonstration of its power. Thank you for sharing!
Thanks so much for watching and glad I could inspire you! I actually did 2 other videos on my channel on the 3rd Wave too!
Great demo Devin! And great job to Groove team!
Thank you so much! Agreed, they killed it with this!
Wow this adds so much to the synth!
YES! SO much to an ALREADY incredible-sounding synth! I was sold from the first operating system, and they've STILL added so, SO much more!
@@skyko Totally, its the kind of update you would expect as a new product. Amazing that its here for free!
I don’t have a 3rd wave but now I want one! Great video and great job to that team for implementing this as an update to an existing synth instead of holding it off for a new product entirely 🙏🏼
Amen! I love featuring these guys' synths because they are honestly one of the most pro-consumer synth companies. This totally might have been a paid update or new product if it was a different company.
Awesome demo! I can't wait to get my hands on the update. I also can't wait to get your custom patches loaded in.
Thank you so much for buying them! Enjoy!!
A great extension to an already amazing synth. Nice one!
Cheers!
I keep coming back to this video to listen to you play that sound - just love it.
Thanks so much!
Sounds really amazing! Can’t wait for the update.
Wow so cool! And I only bought the 3rd wave last week, what a gift hehe!
Wow haha, you have amazing lucky timing! Enjoy! And if you haven't check out my other walkthroughs to learn how to program it!
@@MilesAwayOfficial Thanks! I've watched them all. Great job showcasing the 3rd wave, it's a fantastic synth! 💜
Great news! Thanks for this video. This puts this one over to the top of my list. I am going to get it and put my Mirage samples on this!
Amazing! If you are in the states please consider using my perfect circuit link in the description, enjoy!
What a great synth company the Groove Guys have become! Always under-promising but over-delivering. This is a fantastic update! I'd love to see lower bit rate options added as well.
Thank you for this kind comment. We love synths and we love what we do. It's gratifying to have a great relationship with folks who have put their faith in us, and we aim to do right by you.
Amazing sounds, amazing synth. This tipped me into the "buy" category (most likely the desktop version to save some room). Thanks for sharing!
Glad I could help!
Sounds incredible!
Wow, I already had my eye on the 3rd Wave for being one of the coolest contemporary digital/hybrid synths, but this really makes it a lot more interesting still!
Absolutely! It’s easily one of the best synths in years imho
So awesome! What a feature!!
agreed!
Très impressionnant, merci !!!
De rien mon ami!
Ah yes! Another 3rd wave video! :)
Hope you enjoyed!
Wow 😮
This synth is so beautiful !
So amazing and it looks so simple to use.
Glad you like it!
Amazing! 😊
If only they could allow additional patch storage. With all these cool features it's a shame that it's very limited in that sense.
True! I find that I overwrote most of the factory patches tbh.
@@MilesAwayOfficial I've replaced over 80% of them between my own patches, and purchased libraries which is a shame. There were some good factory patches too.
Is there a Library editor available?
This is fantastic news! I can see the update is not yet there. When is it available?
Soon. We're making sure it's as solid as we can before putting it out. We may do a public beta to get more folks hammering on it. Thanks for your interest and support!
NICE! I assume this will be on the desktop too?
Yes. Both keyboard and desktop!
Insane
OMG, that sounded amazing. What a synth. I’m getting GAS for it now. Where did you get that choir sample from?
Thanks for watching! Its such a good synth eh. Sample is just a bounce in mono of NI Omnia totally dry. But you could get away with any old choir sample off of splice.
Well I’m ordering one of these puppies soon
If you do, enjoy!
Alright I think this sells me on it finally. I have the Waldorf M which has actual VCAs and I personally think it sounds better with wavetables. But now all the features on this I think tip the scale
If you get one you won't regret it! Seriously a fantastic synth, I've been lucky to play most modern flagships and the 3W just does everything so well. I really would love to try an M, what do you think makes it different? Cause they seem like they sound a bit different from demos.
@@MilesAwayOfficialMain thing I liked about the M is it’s basically Tangerine Dream’s PPG soundset all in one box.
t’s a nice upgrade. While it’s not really at the level of a Prophet X in regards to sample memory (the fact you could have an entire album potentially be a single sample oscillator is nuts) it feels like it’s a nice nod to potential “things to come” from a future Groove Synthesis product.
Question though, is imported sample’s loop information automatically recognized or do you have to manually add the loop every single time?
This update with keybed like on arturia p12
I would be in synth heaven!
@MilesAwayOfficial that's why I think module with external mpe controller is a winner. Can't wrap my head around that they didn't make keybed polyat amd without a ribbon.
Hey Miles, great video as always. As a new sampler, I am a bit confused about one thing. Does the 3rd Wave limit a single sample semitones? When I tried to stretch a sample across the whole keyboard it just started repeating the last note after a while. Is there a work around that doesn't involve multi sampling? I can't seem to figure out how to set up a mulitsample properly to save my life. If you were to ever release a sample pack of choirs and instrument sounds the 3rd wave can't make on it's own, you would have a buyer right here! hint hint! Thanks!
Awsome 🎉 Is there a vid on how to update the firmware? Thanks
Believe that groove synthesis are uploading any tech instructions themselves!
My Emu Emax is going to be upset the synth on the stand in front of it has stolen its job.
it does sampling now?? omg
Yep! Massive free update, takes the synth to another level!
This is twice as much tine as the Emulator II offers, 17 seconds of recording time or 17 different samples across the keyboard. Would be great to load those Emu libraries on
Great idea! I think retro samples work best for this given it has limited space
How do you feel about the 3rd Wave vs. the PolyBrute 12? Isn't the Polybrute kind of redundant to get if one owns the 3rd Wave? Isn't the 3rd Waves sound better than the PolyBrutes anyway? @MilesAway. Instead of adding a Polybrute 12 would it be better to add a Moog Muse or OBX8 instead?
Definitely they are comparable. I still would really like to get the Polybrute 12 (over the Muse even) because the warping features and expression like the Morphe/keybed are so unique. But if you just want the sound of the polybrute you can probably get close with the 3W. OB-X8 sound wise is like nothing else, I am doing another video on it soon!
Were can i find the firmware, 1.8 is not in there site
I know what’s coming next for 3rd Wave: Granular Engine. Why not, right! That would essentially put all other contenders out of the game! 3rd Wave is already THE best value in the market .
One can dream!!!
Darn, I wanted 8 or 12 bit sampling (to run through the Rossum). That's where the magic could have been.
That would have been perfect and at 12 bit could have had minutes os sampling
Given that it plays back factory 8 bit wave tables, I wonder if there will be a way to import 8 bit samples. That would be killer.
But not at all complaining about what was essentially just handed to me as a gift.
@@deanrinehart Yes, so this could be a sample playback unit rather than a sampler (a machines that takes an audio sourced and digitizes it). So per your point, feed it 8-bit Mirage samples and you've got 8-bit files onboard. I hope this is the reality!
This looks awesome. I'm curious: does it do lower sample rates and/or bit depths, or just the 16-bit 48 kHz?
Everything ends up as 16bit 48khz. So you can add lo res samples on, but they might sound slightly different when converted. My workflow is drag stuff into logic, then export it out as 16 46khz so it sounds predictable.
Hi! Thanks for this amazing news! Some questions: Does the 3rd Wave hold all samples in non-volatile flash memory? If so is it this memory that holds max 30 sec of samples or is it just RAM that is limited to 30 sec? Would it be possible to save/load samples from USB memory instead of connecting to a computer?
Hey! this is a question for the Groove Guys, check Bob's pinned comment :)
How would you rate the overall capabilities of this synth compared to the Waldorf Quantum Mk2? Specifically, as it pertains to ambient music. Thanks.
Quantum looks like a beast! I don't have one unfortunately but from people I've spoken to, Quantum can do more (granular, polyAT, deeper sampling, etc), but 3rd Wave has more sonic character. To me that's the most important thing but the Quantum looks like an insanely good synth.
@@MilesAwayOfficial I wish you would get a Quantum and do a demo because you’re great at this and it’s just an absolutely amazing synth. The 3rd wave really does sound beautiful too though.
How much memory is there for samples? I assume it's not gonna be too much - unless they had this planned all along :)
30 seconds max of 16 bit 48khz samples; so it’s not much memory! Think of this like a bonus feature, not a full on dedicated sampler like Kontakt . The advantage is what I show, that you basically get to use your samples exactly like the wavetables: LFOs, FM, effects, analog filters, everything works seamlessly with the sample!
@@MilesAwayOfficial I guess we need some very clever looping and well-made single samples then to fit a couple of them on there :) I just re-watched and realized the 30 seconds are mentioned in the specs you showed, dang! Thanks for answering anyways! :)
Prophet x had done this
Different synths right, PX is a sampling synth that can approximate the sound of Wavetable / PPG, this is a Wavetable/PPG synth that can do a bit of sampling
Soooo... 3rd Wave is more "modwave" than ever? 🤔 Interesting. (Not hating on 3rd Wave, just noting how Korg nailed WT synth architectures with even the v1.0 modwave.)
Since you have both the 3rd Wave and OB X8, how much of the X8 ground does the 3rd Wave cover? I can't make up my mind which to get, cheers
I use my 3rd Wave more! But the OB-X8 is the single best sounding synth I own, it’s glorious. I pretty much exclusively do all my big brass chords and stabs with it, nothing sounds as alive. But if you are a sound designer you might get bored. 3rd Wave you will never outgrow, it keeps surprising me, and it’s by far the best sounding hybrid synth to me. The analog filters and the way they’ve tuned the hardware/converters makes it sound way more alive than any digital synth
@siprophet08 I’m in the same boat. Was sold on the x8 and planned on getting it, then this upgrade…and now the TEO-5 just released!!
@@MilesAwayOfficial Thanks for the insight mate. I'm leaning towards the 3rd Wave once I get rig of some gear.
@@Belay_OfficialMusic It's too easy to lose your mind these days with all the gear porn being thrown at us.
@@Siprophet08 it’s a blessing and a curse to have so many options for all of the analogue!
Can you FM the samples?
Yes! You can use em both as FM carriers and operators. I briefly do one in the video, but it works pretty well!
WOW! I still consider my 3rd Wave "new" because Groove Synthesis CONTINUES to add awesome updates every few months, which makes this synth like Christmas 5-6 times a year! This new sampling capability is OFF THE CHARTS COOL! Thank you SO MUCHO!!! 😃🎹🎛🎄‼
Totally! It really is amazing how much stuff they keep giving us! Enjoy it when it goes live!
Amazing! 😊
Glad you enjoyed!
