Thank you for your comment! I’m afraid I’m in a busy period with my current rotation so I’ll just be doing the occasional video. If you have a video topic to suggest, then reply here and I’ll see if I can make one!
Juat say, you worked the night because no other options available. So you will be payed for that hours extra? Or will taken out of your 40hours weekly in next rota? If payed what rate? Locum rate? What if you are burnt too?
If you are asked to work a night shift which is unplanned, then they should be offering you bank rates of pay (if not, make sure to clarify this with your department before accepting the night shift and get it in writing/email/or a shift on whichever app they use). They may also offer you time off instead, which you can usually negotiate with them. Hopefully, you aren't working a night shift directly after a day shift as that would be extremely unsafe for patients, but also for yourself, because if you make a mistake, then tiredness wouldn't count as an excuse because you have taken an extra shift as a bank/locum. Don't let anyone pressure you into doing a shift. If that's the case, you need to report it to your guardian of safe working and clinical supervisor. If you're burnt out, then you should talk to someone about it, such as your clinical supervisor. There is also the BMA helpline if you need support.
