80-year-old woman. I recently did this, using "tire foam" and followed recommended procedure from one of these podcasts on a newly acquired 2000 Buick Lesabre because it came from not so desirable winter climate. Well it didn't get all the grease off but there was 21 years of crap on the engine. The engine did run a little rough because the blower I had was from a canister vacuum cleaner and am sure some water must have gotten somewhere it shouldn't. Am overhauling my new acquisition and replaced a battery, driving lights module, cruise control and trying to fix a few rust problems. Also trying to decided what to do about scratches and paint. That auto body class I took at 35 will come in handy. Got a '41 Chevy at 15 and cars were easier to work on in 1955. Worked on all my cars and loved doing it. Now I'm having a second childhood working on cars again. Sooo much fun!
Amen. This is the best thing I've read all year. Awesome! I got an 1982 Camaro Berlinetta I'm trying to figure how to get off 40 years of garage sitting to get off of it. Only 55K miles on it. Second set of tires on it too.
I do this same thing. I spray the engine once, wait five minutes and spray the engine again. Then I use my leaf blower on high to blow away the excess foam and then wipe off any residue with a microfiber towel. Great video and thanks for sharing.

Tried this on my 99 Mustang GT and it worked great! I did use my air compressor to blow if off before and after as opposed to a leaf blower so that seemed to really help.
Really good for people who keep their cars a long time! The waterproof plugs and connectors ARE NOT DESIGNED FOR the high pressures from pressure washers or car washes - they're meant to protect from splashes or rain water ONLY. There are many cars with electrical problems from corrosion inside these plugs from water forced inside by pressure washing with water. Good video - Good idea!!!
Tire Foam is a Wetting Agent to make the Tires look Wet!I wash my Engine with a Pressure Washer as I have for the last 55 years and have Never had a problem using Water! The idea is not to Bath the Electrical Components in Water, Hit them with a passing Spray and move on. It also helps to make sure you Run the Engine to Heat it up. Try a little Gunk also!
mike makuch it’s sold as a product to make tires look wet but it has other uses. Liquid soap is for my hands and toothpaste is for my teeth, yet I use booth to clean my sneakers...
Smitty, tire foam is for tires. Rubbing tire silicone products into engine bays is one of the dumbest things you can do and cause possible fires from electrical issues.
Used this method but with a competitors brand of wet look tire foam. Began by wiping all surfaces with an old clean terrycloth towel cut into usable sizes and some foaming surface cleaner. Sprayed Tire Spray liberally over the top & sides of engine components needing cleaning. Left over night to dry, then wiped all over & "nooks/crannies. Now when I open the hood, all I see is CLEAN & SHINY !
I've been using Tire Foam under the hood and wheel well area for years. Never used any leaf blower so don't know what that's about. Never had any problems and it's super easy and looks great. Have also used it on "sticky" steering wheels by spraying it on a towel and going around the wheel with it.
start using the blower...it spreads the foam and prevents missed areas and streaking. i use it in wells also and it looks new with the foam/blower AND i dont break my back trying to get around the wheel in all those curves. also did an amazing job in the truck box which is 100% plastic...but the blower really smoothed it all out.
Thank you for filming your experiment and publishing the result. I like the idea of using the tire foam on rubber parts. The blower is always a good idea to get the water and loose dirt away. A little hot water steamer (not a water jet) would help, but your idea was to clean without water, thats ok. Would recommend chrisfix'es vids for some additional ideas. But i share your route of using as little water as you can for cleaning the engine.
I like the idea of using *a steamer device.* I don't know if it would work better than straight water, but I'm guessing it would work better than the gentleman's 'no water' method? Just because _hot_ water has been proven for decades to be better than even cold water at removing grease. So, steam, being super hot, might be very effective.
I did this to a few cars on my car lot, shined like new! Make sure you don't drive on a gravel road, after 3 months you might want to take it back off. Use the strongest acid you can buy and pressure wash it off.
I understand your fear of using water on your engine bay but as long as you cover your connectors on alternator, battery and fuse box with a simple trash bag you're fine. Your car and engine is designed to be waterproof in certain weather conditions. Water gets into it while running all the time. Never use a pressure washer but a shower setting garden hose and engine degreaser and you will be all fine followed by brushing tight points and leaf blower. If you wanna be super safe, you can disconnect your battery and wash it all the way down. Make sure to use baking soda on your battery if you do and wipe it. It will clean its iode caps and make its conductability better 👍🏻
Nice video, I rinse my engine with engine off on a warm day, then start it up and spray armor all let it run for 15-20 mins, shut it off then wipe everything down with a rag. I do it once a year. If you never cleaned your engine then I suggest using the purple power degreaser for engines. Stay safe👍🏽
Yes I have used this spray on tyre cleaner on my engines to keep them like new .It works great . Recommended by Me... the dirt just drips off.. same as when used on tyres. Lee.
I used to clean my '94 Camry's engine bay with Armor All. I didn't spray the entire thing, just certain areas then wipe it off with a towel. Looked brand new.
They won't mention this that this tire foam leaves a sticky film on the parts which will attract more dust. Unless you use pressure washer to remove the film :))

Great video Dave! I am going up to dusty roads New Brunswick next week. I will try your method on my F-150 when I get back. That truck seems to get a lot of mud up inside the engine bay. I am so grateful you shared what you learned. I have a '92 nissan set for over a yr. It has dust and dust webs on the engine. I was amazed at the use of the leaf blower. Thanks for sharing.
This method without rinsing off will kill motor parts as it just barely cleans grease and then drips into parts like alternators or spark plug Ports. Use super clean foam and rinse with water. Engines can get wet.
Usually from 2010 and up they keep engine sealed tight as far as electrical components go....they use die electric grease on top of that to help keep moisture away.

Did this before and it looks good for a while but the foam leaves a sticky residue and your engine will look awful in no time as dirt is attracted. Also be careful of the strong engine degreasers that have chemical smell as it will end up in your interior and it’s awful. Purple power is effective, biodegradable and doesn’t have an overwhelming smell
I've tried this product two years ago, spraying it in the engine compartment and let it sit for 15 or so minutes. Rather than rinse the engine off with water (as I first did a few times) a friend of mine mentioned using the tire foam from Armor All, and not using water, but using a leaf blower? Honestly, folks, I was Very surprised! I've been washing my Camry, like this ever since.
Idk I wouldn't do it, I'm leary about spraying anything around electrical connections, or the pcm, just not worth the headache and expensive repair cost. Using an air compressor and air gun is safer
Sweet Project Cars is an awesome channel for the diyer. I recommend subbing to their channel for some amazing tips and tricks for anything car related! *edit* You have to use cleaning tire foam. What you used was tire foam shine. Turtle wax and Meguires has what you need
1:40 Say WHat?!?!? I've purchased dozens of things both online and at the brick and mortar Harbor Freight stores and I've never heard of nor been offered a free tarp. Anyways, thanks for posting this. Very helpful.
We've gotten several in the last month or so. I used coupons we printed off from the website which are also available in the flyers you get in the mail, email and at the Front of the store. On Mothers day I got a 7" DA Polisher/ Sander for $25 because it was on sale and I used a 25% off coupon. I also snagged 2 of the purple paint sprayer guns for $10 each and the detail spray gun for $13. You can also pay a fee to join their club and you get special pricing. I'm not a member though.
I will *always* use an entire can, maybe more and never blow dry it. Engine heat under the hood will dry it up.. Sometimes there will be a slight smell inside the car/truck, but goes away quickly
I use dawn, mineral spirits and hot water and do it by hand. Then I use mothers vinyl and leather cleaner and restorer and spray everything down and use a paint brush to spread it around. I use mothers ceramic wax on the painted surfaces.
Any kind of tire cleaner/shine, will do it. NOW go tire shine your blower? I like the products you apply by hand with a applicator, not spraying into your alternator.
I use that Walmart engine degreaser, foam spray, let it set a while, spray with water then when dry use the tire foam! Tire foam is great for black plastic parts! HOWEVER …. it makes running boards and brake pedals slippery 😲
Great video. Made me think of trying carpet spray cleaner. On a carpet one would vacuum up the dried up foam. Perhaps the air blower would do the trick of clearing out the dried up foam with the dirt.
Wow, I thought I was an idiot and probably messing something up by doing this. I use the Maguires though. A bit more oily. *In my farm truck* it keeps the dust from sticking inside the engine bay for about 4-5 months
Once I had a car wash to clean my '86 Bronco II engine compartment with steam and a year later everything was rusted or corroded. I don't know what they used but evidently they were totally incompetent.
@@nandy1256 Yes, I am sure, the engine was corrosion free, it had the usual grime and dirt. No, I didn't watch them blow dry, it was their job and the engine compartment looked dry and shiny afterwards. They used some shit that caused a sudden corrosion effect. Are you trying to defend a lousy, incompetent outfit?
Use 50/50 mix of amonia and simple green. Spray it over a slightly warm engine. Wait 20 minutes do it again. Then just use a garden hose and spray nozzle. Use hot water if possible. Or also use an electric low pressure, pressure washer. Then after it dries I like to use something like Armor All and soak everything. Let sit for 15 minutes touch up the dry spots then rub it all out with clean rags.
I used the foam this morning. After a few hours I looked at it and it was not covered in the light dust color. So, using a towel I rubbed it over a stain from the foam, and let me tell you this: Black, black, black. I have a feeling it is somehow 'melting' the plastic that covers the engine. Not going to do that again. Yes, I bought the exact same thing and watched both of your videos. My car is a 2013, garaged and driven 500 miles a month. It wasn't that dirty to begin, but I wish I hadn't used the spray foam on it.
Love this idea. Looks great. I live in the country on dirt roads. That engine bay started pretty. Lol. Anyway I’m gonna try this with my air compressor to get a little more aggressive air pressure and use a long extension. This will get in where the leaf blower can’t. Of course using caution where needed. Thanks for the video.
using this products are fine..and rinse with power wash is ok as long you use a air compressor to drive the water out of entire engine parts.. works like a charm.. leaving water kn the engine is what hurts it.
On older vehicles before computers You can put plastic wrap around your distributor and carburetor openings than use a degreaser like simple green and pressure wash it off But on new vehicles you can't use water at all unless you want problems with shorting sensors coroding connectors or computers You might get away with it in short term but your asking for problems I'd rather use tire foam and rag
Me I’m going to use Gunk foaming degreaser spray first then maybe sprinkle some water on it or just wipe it down as you did then use Gunk shine spray I’m thinking it would turn out ok or better as his did.
I did this years ago, the only problem is road dust sticks to everything, plus the actual chemicals in these products perish rubber very slowly, even though its for rubber, plastics.
6 bucks is almost nothing 😂 y'all proved his point. Although this isn't the tire foam he should use. Should have used an actual tire cleaning foam. Cleans protects and shines rubber and plastic parts
I use the a brand cleaner called cover all you can use it on dash , tires and I been using it underneath my hood just spray from a distance specially when doing it on tires cause if not sit long enough it can sling it off on your car if you apply to heavy but it works good. And thank you for sharing this video
A way of cleaning without water is putting kerosene in a chemical sprayer & hitting all the oily places with it. Then blow it off. That stuff you used maybe good afterwards. That's what I do if I had a valve cover gasket replacement. No matter what you use will smoke as soon as you crank the engine up.
Yea I use that on the big rig tires that I drive .. but just don’t go thru any dirt cause that engine will look brown ... and good luck cleaning that .. looks clean tho👍
This tire foam has silicone in it and it would be wise not to get it on your fan belts because it could cause them to slip because of the silicone being so slick
i have a 2006 corvette a 2003 frontier and a2013 camry and go to the car wash and wash the engine with soap and wax doing this for years so far no problem with engines or electrical problem so dont tell me that water hurt the engine
I have been pressure washing my engines for more than 50 years and never a problem! Your not supposed to go to sleep with the washer on the electrical parts! Be Jewish, do the Passover!
Go to a place that specialises in cleaning engines. Its not too expensive. Especially compared to just experimenting, where it could cost you 5 times the amount to fix problems that will come later on.
Well . I have done this before and it really works , however the Warnings label says that you should not apply on hoses, so I thinks that you can do this quite a few times .
Finally fixed my oil leak & it turned out to be valve cover gasket. Which sucks because it’s at the top so all that oil ran down covering half the block lol. Gonna use purple power first since it’s so aggressive
@@shawnbeck2303 disconnecting or pulling out the batteries first reduces possibility of shorting out. Of course blowdrying wet engine bay will help ensure this.

Yeah he's a genius!
1:40 Say WHat?!?!? I've purchased dozens of things both online and at the brick and mortar Harbor Freight stores and I've never heard of nor been offered a free tarp. Anyways, thanks for posting this. Very helpful.
I got the free tarp from HF and still have another coupon for another. They offer them fairly often.
Now go over the engine with water and it'll probably look better
SIMPLE GREEN IS THE BEST. ALL ORGANIC
TIRE FOAM IS LOADED WITH CHEMICALS
Ur leaf blower needs a cleaning too👀😂
After I vacuum out my engine bay I use Meguiars tire shine I Works fantastic
BEARNS I like to add an air freshener too
@@fuku2bitch spray some cheap perfume on it then...
I like the products you apply by hand with a applicator, not spraying into your alternator.
ruclips.net/video/Itn8RHa3KbU/видео.html
only tyre foam - not tyre shine
@@patrickcollins6680 tyre foam and don't spray alternator
I use that Walmart engine degreaser, foam spray, let it set a while, spray with water then when dry use the tire foam! Tire foam is great for black plastic parts! HOWEVER …. it makes running boards and brake pedals slippery 😲
Great video. Made me think of trying carpet spray cleaner. On a carpet one would vacuum up the dried up foam. Perhaps the air blower would do the trick of clearing out the dried up foam with the dirt.
ruclips.net/video/Itn8RHa3KbU/видео.html
I use this before car shows and wipe it off. Works great!
don't spray on serpentine belt, it may snap off as tire shine is little slippery...
Thanks for sharing. I am a detailer. I was always wanting to add engine bay cleaning now I can thank you.
Looking good. 👍
Btw, did your car started ok?🤔
Aloha from Hawaii 🌺
Wow, I thought I was an idiot and probably messing something up by doing this. I use the Maguires though. A bit more oily. *In my farm truck* it keeps the dust from sticking inside the engine bay for about 4-5 months
Once I had a car wash to clean my '86 Bronco II engine compartment with steam and a year later everything was rusted or corroded. I don't know what they used but evidently they were totally incompetent.
Did you see them totally blowdry the compartment? And are you sure those rust wasnt there before especially with that yr model?
"I don't know how long its been...I don't have a watch" ... funny
I detail cars i use this method a few times now I got IK-9 spray foamer i use for engine bay cleaning but the tire spray is good for the shine
I did it..looks great..thanks.God bless you and your family. Please stay safe.
Goes to start car...."click, click,click, click"...."Aw shit....hold mah beer, I`m gonna try somethin`"
Thank you so much for your invaluable information, highly appreciate it, keep it up the outstanding job, have a great day.
On older vehicles before computers
You can put plastic wrap around your distributor and carburetor openings than use a degreaser like simple green and pressure wash it off
But on new vehicles you can't use water at all unless you want problems with shorting sensors coroding connectors or computers
You might get away with it in short term but your asking for problems
I'd rather use tire foam and rag
I know it’s n old video but this tire foam does work as long as engine bay isn’t super greasy and nasty
Works really good
Me I’m going to use Gunk foaming degreaser spray first then maybe sprinkle some water on it or just wipe it down as you did then use Gunk shine spray I’m thinking it would turn out ok or better as his did.
Copy,that,10/4,agree,with,you,bro,
That worked great on my van engine and thanks for the tip.
I did this years ago, the only problem is road dust sticks to everything, plus the actual chemicals in these products perish rubber very slowly, even though its for rubber, plastics.
Joseph Jackson nope made for rubber tiers they actually protect rubber. You are incorrect.
That looks 10x better. You need to do it twice and have a harder blower. Still, it's not bad, costs almost nothing and certainly can't hurt anything.
B.S. costs almost nothing, how about costs about $4.00 a pop! 2 Minutes of pressure washing and that costs about 5 cents!
Tire Foam cost $6.00.... Wash your Car with Water = about $3.00.... LOL
I just heard about Coverall spray! Got it at O' Reily's $ 9.50. High dollar. No touch 21 ounces for a dollar. The Coverall was 16 ounces. Shawn
Modern engines are just fine if they get a little wet
I always do this the last 30+ years works great
Yea I use that on the big rig tires that I drive .. but just don’t go thru any dirt cause that engine will look brown ... and good luck cleaning that .. looks clean tho👍
This tire foam has silicone in it and it would be wise not to get it on your fan belts because it could cause them to slip because of the silicone being so slick
Next time try simple green .
Nice decades old trick in the used car dealers industry.
i have a 2006 corvette a 2003 frontier and a2013 camry and go to the car wash and wash the engine with soap and wax doing this for years so far no problem with engines or electrical problem so dont tell me that water hurt the engine
Love "Sweet Project Cars, They have great car care tips!!! I've got to try this one.
Well . I have done this before and it really works , however the Warnings label says that you should not apply on hoses, so I thinks that you can do this quite a few times .
You did a fine job sir. Thank you for sharing. I'm a gonna try it.👍👍💛
Finally fixed my oil leak & it turned out to be valve cover gasket. Which sucks because it’s at the top so all that oil ran down covering half the block lol. Gonna use purple power first since it’s so aggressive
Brushes & pipe cleaners are good to get grime off of the tight fit areas.
I think an air compressor would be a better choice than a leaf blower.
Really nice job now I have an itch I need to scratch hopefully I can keep my wife happy in one session.
wont more dirt stick to the tire foam ?
Yes ..but did the engine start and keep running after this? Jessh I need to know
I sprayed armor all protector heavy left it on soak and wet no wiping check it next morning looks like new
It looks good, does it start up?
A paint brush and tooth brush is good for getting in to tight spots
So your saying you shove them up your clacker
Man just steam clean your engine water can get under there
How would one clean down below the engine? Need to clean up power steering fluid after a massive pressure hose leak...
Why wouldn't you wash the engine before applying the tire foam ?????
Water will short out the electric components. Blowing off the engine works great. No water! ..Shawn
@@shawnbeck2303 disconnecting or pulling out the batteries first reduces possibility of shorting out. Of course blowdrying wet engine bay will help ensure this.
Electrical parts that you don't want water in.
