Is Jack Alexy the Next Great American Sprinter?

  • It feels REALLY stupid to call 2025 Jack Alexy’s breakout year, I mean for all intents and purposes he had already DONE that in 2023. He won two individual silvers at that meet and then qualified for the Paris Olympics and won Olympic gold on a relay the year after.
But even if “breakout” is an inaccurate word for it I think it’s pretty clear that this summer’s world championships saw a MASSIVE step up from the American sprint freestyler, both in terms of speed and consistency.

whats crazy abt alexy isnt just how fast he is. ofc 45.9 is insane. but how consistent he has been. this is neither an accusation or shade, but pan hasnt been very consistent(at least to my knowledge). but alexy and popovici have not only shown they can go fast, but that they can do it again, and again. and I think this is the first time we're seeing this kind of sub 47 consistency ever.

He keeps getting faster, and i keep getting more and more surprised. Wild that he is faster than dressels 100 free

going to be great to see him compete for years to come with popovici in the 100m free, considering they are the complete opposite in body type and style.

I don’t know if he actually does or if his stroke just allows greater extension but dude seems to have massive arms that cause him to finish far sooner than his head position would imply.
I wish he had been been the anchor in Paris.
I hope we get to see three pan, pop, and Alexy race next to each other

Alexy is very young and has time to make adjustments and changes to some technical aspects to make him even faster, he’s definitely going to only get better and better

He is 203 cm tall which means he most likely has longer arms than competitors like pop and pan who are 190 cm tall

Yeah he’s 6’8 and has insanely long arms, probably the reason he got that final touch for the bronze medal in the medley tbh

I Wonder on how fast the medley relay if dressel was on the fly leg and alexy in the free

I really love this content. I feel like swimming is so underrepresented and you do it justice by diving in deep to stories fans would care about and doing so in an excited way. Keep it up! Swimming world needs this

@TheSwimScribeexactly! If his underwater were good, he’ll be at least 46.5, and 21.1

His turns aren’t even that bad, but it’s his start that really isn’t great

How did he go faster than his 50 free going out in a flying start 100 free how is that possible

    • @TheSwimScribe
      @TheSwimScribe  6 months ago +4

He did have an insanely quick exchange of .05, which compared to the .67 reaction time from his best time in the 50 is a HUGE difference. He was also in a pretty good position to draft off of Italy which certainly helped.

does he win in la 2028?

With an event this competitive I would never try and make a prediction that far out. I do think he has a very solid chance and potential to shave off some more time
