    Despite having seen it so many times, I will never stop being amazed by the pink plaster, something unique of the UK and unheard of everywhere else in the world.

      There is red gypsum from Texas that we used to use back in the early 1990s to plaster when the Southwest look was popular. Not so any more. Grays and sandy browns are popula now. Or bright white. We usually we use normal white finish plaster and use a 1-2 gallon latex paint tint formula per 4.5 gallon pail of mixed plaster to achieve the desired color of plaster. Seal it with Ocon, or wax. Or both.

      @@AlexMorleyPlastering I am currently plastering an entire house as an experienced DIYer and the first wall came out great but isn't completely flat. Do you have advice or tips on the technique to flatten the wall nicely please Alex? The look at the wall looks great, nice and neat and smooth surface but has some ripples where I simply didn't flatten properly.
      I'd really benefit from guidance on how much pressure and what angle is best for the trowel at the different stages please 👍🏻

  • @gorringeman

    Great video Alex and something I have always wondered about. One question you mention spat and speedskim. Can you use the Speedskim for both flattenings if needed? Or is a metal blade better for second flatten?

    • @AlexMorleyPlastering
      @AlexMorleyPlastering  Год назад +1

      I use the spat for both. I just close the plaster in on the second before doing the first wet trowel.

    Hello. I watch your videos and want to ask a question. Do you putty the walls before painting? Do you then treat them with abrasive paper or prime and paint them immediately? You don't paint the walls yourself, do other people do it? It would be useful for me to have answers to your questions. Thank you

    • @AlexMorleyPlastering
      @AlexMorleyPlastering  Год назад

      In the UK plasterers apply a gypsum based product which leaves a hard smooth like shell over the walls which can be painted directly onto no sanding required.

    • @how_to_paint_a_crane
      @how_to_paint_a_crane Год назад

      Thanks for the answer. And then do you paint the walls? And regarding the drywall joints, I see that you do not use special putties for drywall joints, but seal everything with a multifinish with mesh. Is it reliable? Do the cracks not appear later? We putty the drywall joints with Knauf uniflot putty and then glue fiberglass or tape for kurt joints from Knauf or other manufacturers. Thank you

    Any tips on how to take the swelling out of the bristles on my good splash brush? I don't want to trim it down because it is new enough. I have it soaking in a bucket of clean of water to see if it helps. Thanks for the videos

    • @AlexMorleyPlastering
      @AlexMorleyPlastering  Год назад +1

      I have the same issue. Best suggestion keep one brush for cleaning only. And another as a splash brush that you don’t wipe on the wall. That way it will last ages.
      It’s the constant scrubbing when cleaning with them which matts them up.
