    Is it really a good idea to put a "Stop Loss" amount? Because when you withdraw (by setting a stop loss amount) when the stock is going down, you are basically incurring a loss. Whereas if you just wait until the stock goes back up (which I was told it usually does) and hopefully get the "Take profit" amount.
    Am I making sense or are there factors that I'm not taking into account?
    PS: Not an expert. Just my understanding. Im a novice at this.

    • @SocialTrading
      @SocialTrading  5 лет назад +6

      Hey there. I'm also just learning, so please just take this as my opinion rather than the total truth. Yes, the value may go back up and then hit your take profit. but it could also keep going down for hours or weeks or months, and then you have to either cut the trade off at an even lower price, or wait for a potentially very long time before it makes its way back up again. During that time, you could have been using the money for a more productive trade... It's something people are always trying to balance - how do i not lock in my losses unnecessarily, but on the other hand, how do i know when to cut off a losing trade and use my money elsewhere...
      A 'stop loss' is basically a very basic tool which can help with 'risk management' - which is the name given to all of the actions you can take to safeguard your capital and not incur very heavy losses. (Remember most new retail traders lose much more than they make).
      There's a lot to be said for patience and waiting until your trades are in the green, but traders will learn technical analysis, and fundamental analysis to back up their theories of why an asset is going to do well - they don't just wait blindly thinking "Well surely everything goes back up eventually" - there's no certainty in that way, so they do their best to use analysis to pick which assets to buy and inform their decisions about where it could be going next. They plan their entry points into a trade and their exits from trades accordingly. The more you know, the better really. (At least I think so!)

    Hi Tom, thanks for your vids. I wanted to clarify, if you use $500 on a higher leverage, ie, x5, that means that the loses will be amplified, in other words, the rate of losing $500 is greater due to the increased leverage (as it would be the same as investing $2500). Is this the only thing that will be lost, ie, only the $500 (+the fee of keeping the leverage overnight etc) or can you exceed the loss further? This was my fear but from what I understand, it just means that if the market goes against you, the $500 could go quicker than if you had used your own capital with x1 leverage. Is this correct?

    Hi - Have you done a video showing an actual trade using leverage at all ? What I mean by this is that, when you go long or short, and you set a stop loss, sometimes it does not hit the stop loss figure you had on the chart yet it stops you out - this is because of the spread so how do you ensure you stop out exactly where you want to rather than prematurely ? what figure do you have to use - is it whatever figure stop loss you have then MINUS say 10 ? thanks

  • @michaeldinwiddy4864
    @michaeldinwiddy4864 5 лет назад

    Hi Tom, very clear and concise. I did notice that l although your three Amazon trades were taken out at exactly the same time, the x1 leverage opened at 1777.34, whilst the leveraged options were 1777.25. Why is that? Is it because the spread fee is actually slightly less for an un-leveraged long? I thought all spread fees were the same.

    • @SocialTrading
      @SocialTrading  5 лет назад +2

      Maybe because the CFDs are just mathematical instruments so they can open instantly as database entries, whereas the underlying asset takes some time to actually open due to the order book? Therefore it was delayed and the buy price was different... I don't think they charge any difference in spreads, or surely we'd see that stated somewhere.

    Does the logic of "if I buy I would earn money only if it goes up and if I sell I would earn money only if it goes down", applies to all open position EVEN IF it's not a CFD?

    If you wanted to buy $1000, would it be better to buy $250 with x4 leverage to save on fee's? Or am I missing something here?

      if you use leverage you'll have overnight and weekend fees. it depends how long you plan to hold the trade open. if youre asking that though, I'm assuming (possibly jncorrectly) that you're a beginner. when I started, I got into a lot of trouble using leverage as its shocking how quickly you can make or more importantly lose money on the trade. the problem is that when the trade is losing money most new people panic, make bad decisions and end up losing their money. it happens to the majority of people statistucally... in my experience that was true.

      I would advice you to make sure you know and have a trading strategy before going into trading. Trading is very complicated that is why a lot of people going into it and after loosing their start up capital twice or multiple times, never go back to it. You can buy signals or use the help of an account manager if you are not a pro

    What happens if you use leverage but don’t hold overnight? Say I buy a CFD at 1.30 and sell at 4.30 will I have to pay any fees apart from the spreads?

    What I don't understand is the fee. If your amount is 500 usd, you chose 5x leverage and the cost is 0.59 usd/day it means they borrowed you 2500 usd. Then you can buy cfd from 3000 because you had 500 usd. Am I right? Or you are not able to invest your own money?

    so there is no overnight fees for X1 leverage? is it wayyyyy much better if we trade using the X1 leverage?

    • @SocialTrading
      @SocialTrading  5 лет назад +2

      Yes, but most people can't afford to put enough into trades using no leverage, so it's really an issue with how much money people are trading with...

    question. in virtual portfolio, i bought XXX stock using x5 leverage, at the bottom of the buy window/popup there is dailyfee of XX amount.
    i hold the stock for a few days.
    then i decided to sell XXX stocks for profit, In my virtual portfolio view there is NO figure or simulation of the daily fees it HAD incurred in the past days. is this normal?? this is misleading

    Hi guys I am currently long on a CFD for DJ30 using 20x leverage in eToro and I am planning to hold this long term. Is this a good idea? I want to re invest my dividends and let compounding interest do it's magic. Based on my calculations the fees will be covered by the gains and dividends however I am worried that I missed something specially on compound interest since I am using 20x leverage technically I am borrowing eToros money so does this mean I will pay the compounding interest and loose money instead of gaining? please share your ideas.

    How long can a leveraged trade stay open?? Does a leverage trade have a deadline to sell or trade? If it doesn’t why do people sell when they are in the red??

    • @SocialTrading
      @SocialTrading  3 года назад

      It can stay open indefinitely as far as I'm aware, but you'll be paying those little 'rollover' fees every day you hold the trade open - they're very small, but over a long enough time, they can be significant. I think there are a variety of reasons people sell - they suddenly need the money for something else out in the real world and have to close their position even though it's at a loss (very common with newer traders who haven't thought it through...), or they might just fear that the trade is going to lose even more money in future, so they close it now to avoid an even bigger loss down the road. There's an awful lot of pyschological pressure which the new trader experiences which is really hard to deal with - it usually takes people time and experience to handle it well.

    Is the amount of loss and profit is the final amount? I meant for example I opened 100$ on gold with 20x leverage accidentally. My total money on the account is 200$. If I loss 40$ does that meant my loss is 800$? How will etoro take 800$ if my only money on etoro is just 200$. Sorry I'm so confused.
