The best speakers I heard in 2022 were the Martin Logan 40XW Line Source Loudspeakers matched with a Bladelius ODEN Integrated amp. Bladelius makes one of the very best amps I've ever heard at any price ! My End-Game System for life😇
I own a Boulder 866 and I must tell you that this all in one Integrated is better than many pre/amp combos that cost 30k USD. In first instance the msrp sounds like a lot compared to a naim unitiy Nova for example. But it is worth it! Considering you dont need an additional Streamer and DAC and therefor less cabling aswell you will get astonishing Boulder Sound for this price that gets new updates constantly. It delivers 230w per channel in 8ohms and 340 in 4ohms (measured). Thats incredible for this tiny unit. It doesnt get to hot aswell and has no Sharp edges. I listened to many Integrated amps, this one was always the most transparent one. When hooking up a more slowly laid back loudspeaker from an Italian Brand you can give it literally wings that other amps can't do! When there was an issue they emailed quickly and humble back to answer all of my questions. I can really reccommend it and as Jay said, they dont release offen a new "version" . They build quality that lasts. Hopefully someday I will be able to afford a 1160 or above and a matching preamp :-)

Sasha DAWs vs Magico A7 fantastic Jay!. I've heard the A5 and the DAWs. The A5 is more dynamic with great amplification, and the DAW just grabs you with Tube preamp, and Class A amp delivering the juice. Thanks Jay

@@jaysaudiolab I just wonder because the Essence can only really shine with the right speakers that do not need that much power. On the other hand, Magico speakers (with there closed cabinets) need quite some power. I guess this applies for S7 too
@@AudioheavenDenmark It's true to me and Jay, tube power amps are not as good as SS amps in driving speakers like Jay has. Tubes only belong in preamps, tubes are voltage amps, not current amps.
@@Random-kq4pz there are plenty power tubes out there that can drive magicos. It all depends o. How loud you wanna play. Tubes can easily make current. Even more than you think. 50 watts goes a long way of they are done right.

Fun video! Your hype sure makes me a bit envious! I still love my mcintosh c53 and mc462 with Revel f328be! I almost got the a5 speakers but the recent price increase had me a bit annoyed and then I ran into a great deal on the revels. I'm hooked to the mcintosh looks. Boulder's higher end stuff and gryphon are looking very sexy though. I'm considering some mc611 monoblocks with perlisten towers for another room. Happy holidays to you and your family Jay! I haven't used more than 45W per channel even with a +10db target freq from 20hz to 100hz. I've since left the sub off outside of home theatre content. I hope your S5 is orange like Jay had :)
Hi Jay! Great review, as always! I have a question for you that I'm sure your in a position to answer based on your experience. I have an unrestored, vintage (from 1977) Sansui 5050 receiver connected to a new pair of Klipsch Heresy IIIs - my overall sound/tonal quality is fantastic, with nice warmth, a stunningly clear mid-range, and great imaging/depth of sound. I recently went to my local McIntosh dealer to audition a new system- a Mac integrated amp connected to a pair of B&W bookshelf speakers, which he happened to have on display. I brought a well-mastered Steely Dan "Aja" CD with me to hear as a reference/comparison to my system. Although the Mac setup sounded somewhat cleaner/sharper, the most striking difference in the sound was that it had no depth to it/poor imaging, meaning I was hearing a very flat sound with no real separation of instruments, etc, which I found to be very surprising. My question then is, what current/modern integrated amp, let's say up to $15,000, in your opinion, would provide me with a similar overall level of sound quality, that I am getting with the Sansui connected to the Heresy's? Or is the difference in sound more attributable to the different speakers - Klipsch vs. B&W? Thank you!
I still think Wadia made the best cd players ever. Now maybe Esoteric Grandiose or the top cd player by Goldmund. The Goldmund player I believe is 175k. A s far as amplifiers go I really believe in class D amplification. Right now I am using Legacy audio flagship amp the iV 2 amp 1000 wpc @4 ohms.
Wonder how the $220,000 Audio Note Ongaku amplifier compares to the Boulder amplifiers? No doubt the Boulder amplifiers are more powerful, but there must be something really special about the level of musicality the Audio Note amplifier produces.
Jay , I think you should look into the Pilium Zeus monos ....they are not out yet ,(scheduled for 2023), but given you affinity for large amps ., these could trump them all ...they will be monsters!!
Great rap up jay. I have to agree with you when it comes to what's happening with pricing these days. I think the manufacturers are getting just plain greedy. You make a good point when I manufacturer enters into a different price bracket by simply jacking There price up they'll embarrass themselves very quickly. Just a suggestion...aside from Gryphon Apex, perhaps you can consider doing a mini video series featuring some of the european super amps such as Soulutions 701, FM Acoustics 2011, CH Precision M10 to name a few
I have the VAC master pre-amp and it is an awesome piece. Pair's well with the VAC 452 musicbloc's in Mono to each speaker. Moon Audio- Scott at Evolution in Buckhead had an all in one Moon DAC for about 18k hooked up to the Sonus Faber Aida 2's on display. Sounded pretty good although I feel once it gets hooked up to my APEX Rossini Dac with separate master clock the speakers will go to another level. I came across Qbuz today Michael Mcdonald the Hallelujah track and it was just 16/44 but sounded phenomenal. If you haven't yet played that in your system might want to give it a go. Besame Mucho by Andrea Boccelli on 24/96 is amazing also. I like Sonus Faber because of the flexibility to a room size. Von Schweikert the speakers are great but have to be pulled back way away from the wall. The Magico are very temper mental and take lots of adjusting to get right. For the average listener that is a ton of work versus plug and play options that sound good out of the box. I have about 55 hours into all my Audioquest Dragon cables so far (signal, power, speaker). Comments so far by lots of dealers I have bought different gear from for a small to medium size room it's one of the best they have heard and that is with Monitor Audio speakers not the Sonus Faber.

@@divertiti freight cost has sky rocket. Do your own research. Raw materials has also gotten more expensive. Raw materials is max 10% of the cost, included labor. But as the raw materials in some business has gone up due to demand and lack of cheap shipping. The prices has naturally gone up. Fuel has become main reason for more expensive shipping from different countries. Especially from China where most electronics comes from.. Many. Mine from Russia is also not allowed to export. So prices on nickel, cobolt ect has gone up dramatically. We are running low on several minerals used in hifi. And those are only dug out in Russia.. Do some research on cobolt for a starter.
Hey Jay, I heard you say that Moon from Simaudio sounded good, these poweramp and preamp sound terribly analytical and overly bright to the point that you want to close your sound system and that’s even if you try any speakers, I was really surprised hearing you saying anything positive about Moon audio but I did not hear you talk about Pass Labs and Jeff Rowland which sound so musical especially when compared to Simaudio’s Moon that are dreadful to listen to..there is no music from Moon products although they are built in a top quality fashion they do not sound good at all, what’s your outlook on my view of Moon products..? I don't think you've heard the moon stuff in the right system...they can be analytical but never overly bright or un-musical. Obviously your outlook is you don't like moon, that's fine, listening should be subjective and what one person likes another might not. What he said about the 860A V2 is dead on to me. Its sounds like you prefer a more laid back sound.
@@joebeckham8352 to be honest no I don’t like the moon sound but that’s only for their preamps and amplifiers, for some reason their other gear sounds great, I actually had a moon phono preamp and it sounded great, yea I like laid back sound such as Sugden and Pass Labs, ear fatigue is something I steer away at all cost in fact my speakers are custom made, they cost me 15k but I have all of the details without the brightness, people look at my speakers and say they are worth like 2k but when I start the music their jaws drop, unpretentious looking but they are cost no object speakers, Teflon capacitors, military resistors, high OCC Litz copper air inductor coils, separated crossovers, well you get the picture..but I’ll give you that, there’s different gear out there for different taste. I don’t want to impose my views on anyone, everyone is entitled to their opinion..

I am sure there will be some happy owners who will claim your $500k front end is not up to snuff but their hypex/purifi amp with topping DAC definitely are oh and they have some graphs to prove it!. :) I did listen to your recording and could not agree more.Perhaps they are wonderful speakers in their price range, but vs what you had in your system... not in the same league. It sounded to me like someone took the equalizer and created a V curve.
These are exclusive products for those with extremely deep pockets. Good sound or not depends on what is good sound to the individual. High price does not equate to good sound.

You speak only in general terms, you lack being specific in vital areas. You come off as being a Brooklyn Italian nightclub bouncer, saying; Hey, you listen to me! You’ve never mentioned Spectral, VSA, or JRDG equipment. The only attribute your show has, is mentioning gear, than might not be widely known, because of it’s high price of the average consumer. A friend of mine runs them with Parasound JC1+ monoblocks with great results.

3060 is great but it might be worth reviewing the Dartzeel monoblocks.

Von Schweikert the speakers are great but have to be pulled back way away from the wall. The Magico are very temper mental and take lots of adjusting to get right. For the average listener that is a ton of work versus plug and play options that sound good out of the box. I have about 55 hours into all my Audioquest Dragon cables so far (signal, power, speaker). Comments so far by lots of dealers I have bought different gear from for a small to medium size room it's one of the best they have heard and that is with Monitor Audio speakers not the Sonus Faber.

@@divertiti freight cost has sky rocket. Do your own research. Raw materials has also gotten more expensive. Raw materials is max 10% of the cost, included labor. But as the raw materials in some business has gone up due to demand and lack of cheap shipping. The prices has naturally gone up. Fuel has become main reason for more expensive shipping from different countries. Especially from China where most electronics comes from.. Many. Mine from Russia is also not allowed to export. So prices on nickel, cobolt ect has gone up dramatically. We are running low on several minerals used in hifi. And those are only dug out in Russia.. Do some research on cobolt for a starter.

Hey Jay, I heard you say that Moon from Simaudio sounded good, these poweramp and preamp sound terribly analytical and overly bright to the point that you want to close your sound system and that’s even if you try any speakers, I was really surprised hearing you saying anything positive about Moon audio but I did not hear you talk about Pass Labs and Jeff Rowland which sound so musical especially when compared to Simaudio’s Moon that are dreadful to listen to..there is no music from Moon products although they are built in a top quality fashion they do not sound good at all, what’s your outlook on my view of Moon products..? I don't think you've heard the moon stuff in the right system...they can be analytical but never overly bright or un-musical. Obviously your outlook is you don't like moon, that's fine, listening should be subjective and what one person likes another might not. What he said about the 860A V2 is dead on to me. Its sounds like you prefer a more laid back sound.
@@joebeckham8352 to be honest no I don’t like the moon sound but that’s only for their preamps and amplifiers, for some reason their other gear sounds great, I actually had a moon phono preamp and it sounded great, yea I like laid back sound such as Sugden and Pass Labs, ear fatigue is something I steer away at all cost in fact my speakers are custom made, they cost me 15k but I have all of the details without the brightness, people look at my speakers and say they are worth like 2k but when I start the music their jaws drop, unpretentious looking but they are cost no object speakers, Teflon capacitors, military resistors, high OCC Litz copper air inductor coils, separated crossovers, well you get the picture..but I’ll give you that, there’s different gear out there for different taste. I don’t want to impose my views on anyone, everyone is entitled to their opinion..
But that extra 10to15% of Performance makes ALL the difference if money is no consideration

I am sure there will be some happy owners who will claim your $500k front end is not up to snuff but their hypex/purifi amp with topping DAC definitely are oh and they have some graphs to prove it!. :) I did listen to your recording and could not agree more.Perhaps they are wonderful speakers in their price range, but vs what you had in your system... not in the same league. It sounded to me like someone took the equalizer and created a V curve.

What Lab? You don’t illustrate ever having any measuring equipment, other than your ears🙈. You never mention the type of music you use for evaluating the equipment. You speak only in general terms, you lack being specific in vital areas. You come off as being a Brooklyn Italian nightclub bouncer, saying; Hey, you listen to me! You’ve never mentioned Spectral, VSA, or JRDG equipment. The only attribute your show has, is mentioning gear, than might not be widely known, because of it’s high price of the average consumer. Interesting gear because of you featuring it, but truly up to the viewer to throughly investigate the attributes it possesses. The episodes of you channel are merely items to ponder about, with no education provided.
Tell Jay if Gryphon is afraid of comparing Apex to Boulder 3060, that's how I see it. Their top booster can't be found with you. Online reviews? Irrelevant. They are just unbelievable to me. I am waiting for your opinion. They are afraid of confrontation. Such a conclusion. I'm waiting for them to have the courage and bring it in their teeth to show that their amplifier is great. There are no weak players in this price class. But no courage?
