I've got to admit, I can't drop a like on a video to someone who asks how you fill a void, since it's empty. I don't know, how do you fill a cup? Since it's empty. Does sound like a bad book though, maybe a little hard on it.
Every writer can take a lesson away from zenith. Writing a book is hard. If your editor has no criticisms or thoughts, it's not because you're an amazing writer, it's because they aren't doing their job. Almost any idea and any piece of writing can be improved, but it takes honest editors and beta readers to make that happen. I think this publisher wanted to push this book out quick and didn't bother so much with quality because this deal came with built in marketing and buyers.
Editors can give the best input, but if the author refuses to make any changes, then you get the editor of Fifty Shades, who has spoken about how EL James ignored what she said.
Didnt Fifty shades just get published? did it even have a editor? it was fanfic. Also the first Twilight is actually not that bad. However, you can clearly see that she was pressured with the other books, to get them out fast, because they took a nosedive in everything... Also if you read The Host you can see how much more detailed it is, and see that taking your time with a book is important.
Unfortunately, there are publishing houses that are looking into booktubers based on how many subscribers they have and not for the quality of their writing. Sasha was able to get her book published because of the high subscriber count/ influence she has in this community. She is a genuinely sweet person but I feel like she wasn't ready for this. In her vlogs for Zenith she talked about her deadlines and how they were rushing to finish it before the deadline and a couple other things. She also mentioned that her editor suggested a few things here and there and they just went for it. Since she was 19 when she wrote this and it's her very first book she probably didn't know how to handle or incorporate her ideas and thoughts in such a tight schedule. She'll do better in the future!
@@TKDDLJ09 Actually, E.L. James did have an editor. 2 actually. But she's such a hard person to work with, she got her first editor removed because she didn't want the story to be changed too much. The same case almost happened to the second one, so in the end the only changes made are to the punctuations, grammar, changing ellipsies into commas, and unnecessary details like how much Christian paid at the shop Anna was working at. She rejects any form of criticisms, got rude with a rape survivor on Twitter, and got into a shouting match with the director and screenwriter of the 1st movie (who are clearly more talented than her) when they suggested a scene change that would make much more sense. Then they got fired because of her.

Also the weird hyper violence with an odd aversion to cussing is how peeps outside the US view American media in general if I'm honest. Doubtful that was why it was in the book, but found it funny nonetheless.
American here, I only stop people from cussing if they're a kid at the school I work at. I swear like a sailor, but swearing in front of work around kids is unprofessional. Nevermind that kids hear the same language at home from their parents.

My guess is either that she's struggling to get through it or she finished it and knows she's in a difficult situation with regards to rating it. She said that she will review it though so we'll see...

What I liked about six of crows is that the focus is constantly going from character to character and you know their backstories and why they do what they do even though the focus is mostly on kaz as the leader.
It's very important to separate the work from the artist/writer. When critiquing a piece of work, you are not critiquing the creator, they are separate. And "critiquing" is not talking negatively about the body of work or shaming it; it is discussing what works and what doesn't and how it can be improved. I think it was a poor decision to have their first book be a high sci-fi saga. From every author advice I had seen, the first book is always the worst book and that's the one that should not be published; the second book should be. The first book is for practice, to look back on and see what worked, what went wrong, and maybe if that is the wrong genre for you. I have a close friend who, for the past seven years, has been working on getting her book published. Her first book was a sci-fi book, which was going to be a series, but then she put it away for four months and when she looked at it again, realized how awful it was. She wrote some short stories, experimented for about two years, until she found her second story, which she has fleshed out and shared with others to read and is currently looking for an agent.
Boy if I didn’t know any better I could have sworn you built a forest because all I see is shade for miles on end😂😂😂😂 I wish I could subscribe to your channel a thousand more times, you are literally my favorite booktuber because you’re so honest and funny. Honestly the more you talked about Andi doing all these brutal things even though she's supposed to regret them, the more I feel like they should have just made her an anti-hero. She would have been way more interesting.......
I dont care what "unfortunate circumstances" a person is in. If your willing to kill dozens of people to save yourself, you're a bad person. Period. These authors have a concerning moral compass...
I gave it 2 stars and I agree with EVERYTHING you were saying. It didn't seem like they put a lot of thought into their delivery. Like they had an idea for a story and that's it. As much as I like Sasha, a bad book is a bad book. Hopefully they take these criticisms and use them to create a better book next time. I'll buy the next book to support her and to give them another chance but if the second book shows no growth, then I'm gonna have to fall back.
Thank you for this! Every time I see someone say “the sci-fi in Zenith is the best I’ve ever read!” they point themselves out as a person who has probably never read a science fiction book in their life. It’s not an easy genre to write and the audience is typically extremely critical, which in the case of Zenith, is entirely warranted.
"Let me read this stupid line of dialogue for you because I was screaming" I don't know why but this made me laugh so fucking hard (the whole video was funny, but that particular moment made me absolutely lose it)
Honestly, you're the only booktuber i can watch without being bored. You seem excited to record your videos and you just overall get more hyped about things. So, just keep doing what you're doing. :)
Great review. I broke into gigglefits at several points. The most consistent thing with the bad reviews I've seen for Zenith is that it feels like an unedited first draft. It sounds like they had some interesting ideas but they either didn't mesh well or kept overlapping or just were never fleshed out properly. But on your note of rape-as-villain-trait, I do feel it is definitely a plot point that not everyone should use. I feel a lot of inexperienced authors use it as "development" without understanding the gravity of it. Doesn't matter if the villain is a man, a woman, whatever. It's fucked up and if you can't explain it or treat it with the seriousness it warrants, it should not be used in the story at all.
I am dying - I don't think anyone on RUclips has ever made me laugh this hard. Your confused commentary at the beginning of reading Zenith was so funny. I'm in the demographic that the book is targeted towards, well maybe a bit older, but I picked it up in Barnes and Noble because Sasha is so sweet and then I couldn't bear it. I am pretty excited about her new book though - project red - maybe because it's not in space the world-building might be a bit more coherent?
Still one of my favourite videos on the internet. Whenever I'm having a bad day I watch this review and/or the Handbook For Mortals review. These videos are my favourite!!
Quick question while I finish watching this: Is there supposed to be so many Harry Potter references? “The Bloody Baroness”? ( The Bloody Baron) “The Marauder”? (The Marauders Map) Honestly, it kind of irritates me a little.
Meghan B. Well it's either that it's a coincidence, considering marauder and baron are common titles that people incorporate into their stories, subconscious unintentional references or a lack of creativity by the author.
Some people on earth actually have webbed feet. Several of my toes never separated I got it from my Dad. I’m not mad lol just thought I might let you know it’s a human thing too.
What I really like about the negative reviews for this book is that they are consistent. Most people agree on the bad points of the book. It shows that those things aren't about prospective but they are actually poorly written. In contrast to the positive reviews that don't explain anything, they just "like it".
When I was in eighth grade, I wrote a 40 page short story fairytale for English, and I feel like my plot and some of my descriptions were better written in my some parts :/ and I wrote it when I was 14.....
With what you were saying about the having characters cuss thing and mentioning Harry Potter - I think a really good example is when characters start saying "Voldemort" instead of "he who shall not be named" like that marked a transition in each character but it's never like "OGHEWJBAKGN; THEY SAID IT!!!! CANNOT BELIEVE!!!!!" Also I just found your channel and I love it!! Instant subscriber!
Don’t, I read it because my friend thought it was interesting and the ending sucks, Andi sucks, Dex sucks, everyone is an idiot and the plot twist seems out of nowhere
I agreed with a lot of things you said about this book in your review. Great video! Spoilers Ahead! - - - - - In terms of the rape scene, Valen's mom was never really set up as a villain. Rather, she was set up as a desperate queen attempting to save her planet. Her daughter was the designated villain along with Valen. Instead, General Cortas, the person Valen's mom raped, was more so a villainous character. Like you said, it's messy and insensitive and just plain bad.
I got about 20 pages into this book. For some reason the whole bit of how they left this lady to starve and wither on an asteroid (or something) because she cheated on her husband made me lose all interest. Idk why it was a deal breaker for me :| Anywho I love your review and I'm gonna subscribe because you're hilarious :D
I have no clue why I spent half an hour watching this video, but I glad I did. It was so funny I was laughing every few minutes. I just wanted to see what was up with this book and got more than I bargained for with this great video.

Quick question while I finish watching this: Is there supposed to be so many Harry Potter references? “The Bloody Baroness”? ( The Bloody Baron) “The Marauder”? (The Marauders Map)
Honestly, it kind of irritates me a little.
If I ever wrote a book I would want Caleb to be my editor
You said "love" was copyrighted by Warner, you're my new favorite person 😂
I really love these reviews because it make me realize the things I should avoid when writing
I LAUGHED THROUGH ALMOST EVERY SECOND OF THIS
"death incarnate" *coughs* Rhysand *coughs*
"My leeeeeeg" -That one Spongebob fish and also Zenith
Dex: the love disinterest
"I don't even know what this feeling is, but I wanted to support a member of our community"
The word you're looking for is solidarity
What I really like about the negative reviews for this book is that they are consistent. Most people agree on the bad points of the book. It shows that those things aren't about prospective but they are actually poorly written. In contrast to the positive reviews that don't explain anything, they just "like it".
New subscriber, I just got my ENTIRE LIFE watching this video!
When I was in eighth grade, I wrote a 40 page short story fairytale for English, and I feel like my plot and some of my descriptions were better written in my some parts :/ and I wrote it when I was 14.....
I’m surprised he did not mention “bitter ballerina” lol I was like WTF
I was on the fence about reading it, but now after watching this ..... yeah NOPE. WHY AM I NOT SURPRISED
Will Herondale I thought you were dead lol?
Omg Will you’re so beautiful 😂
I lost at when you made the reference to Spongebob and the guy talking about his leg. 😂
CANNOT BELIEVE!!!!!"
Also I just found your channel and I love it!! Instant subscriber!
The books sounds so bad that makes me want to read it out of curosity (to see how bad actually is) and to make myself suffer a bit
Lucia Paz Díaz Same lol.
Don’t, I read it because my friend thought it was interesting and the ending sucks, Andi sucks, Dex sucks, everyone is an idiot and the plot twist seems out of nowhere
The intro to this video was amazing. It's really cool to hear people talking about their introspection. Thanks for sharing that.
I'll probably buy this when it comes on sale/in like seven years when my library picks it up.
I loved this review! Your humor is everything 😂
I agreed with a lot of things you said about this book in your review. Great video!
Spoilers Ahead!

In terms of the rape scene, Valen's mom was never really set up as a villain. Rather, she was set up as a desperate queen attempting to save her planet. Her daughter was the designated villain along with Valen. Instead, General Cortas, the person Valen's mom raped, was more so a villainous character. Like you said, it's messy and insensitive and just plain bad.
*vEnGeAnCe WiLl Be MiNe*
I got about 20 pages into this book. For some reason the whole bit of how they left this lady to starve and wither on an asteroid (or something) because she cheated on her husband made me lose all interest. Idk why it was a deal breaker for me :|
Anywho I love your review and I'm gonna subscribe because you're hilarious :D
I have no clue why I spent half an hour watching this video, but I glad I did. It was so funny I was laughing every few minutes. I just wanted to see what was up with this book and got more than I bargained for with this great video.
*dun da da blum * Also, I feel like the "vengeance will be mine" thing must be a poor call back to Indigo Montoya?????
21:45 thanks for the mention caleb xD (I'm the one who tweeted at him about Hermione not swearing but still being a badass)
Metal cheekbones, like the MCU's Nebula? Is that the imagery they're evoking?
"i Am VaLLeN cOrTeZ aNd VeNgEnCe WiLL bE MiNe" *My name is Inigo Montoya, you killed my father, prepare to die*
whenever i have a bad day i come back and watch this and today is one of those days (rejected from nearly all my colleges!) and this really helps. so thanks :)
