Hello Phil, Macphersons has always been a quality paint, Before I retired I used to work in the painting and repairs department at Gateshead Council, part of my role was to work with Specifiers from the major paint manufacturers, I have always thought that cost and quality wise Macphersons has always value.for money.
I get 5L of this for about £25 at my local suppliers in north London. 10L for £40. You wont beat those prices. Used absolutely tons of this stuff, excellent for ceilings and coving, goes on well, dries uniform, great stuff at a great price. Only problems I've ever had are on all-white new plaster where recent 10L containers have lacked opacity over mistcoat and have taken up to 4 coats to look solid. The same could be said for other durable matts in white though. I find this paint works amazingly in RAL 9010 and similar off-whites.
The durable matt has more or less become my go to emulsion for most tasks, especially as I get it for a good price but more to the point its closer to the old vinyl matt, the new vinyl matts out there are more like contract or retail emulsions, i.e., they are just not as wipeable as they were. I highly recommended the durable matt. Im glad youve giving it a shout out Phil
Top quality gear. Just had another delivery today from Paint Monster/Glenwood Decorating. Keeps a nice wet edge as it doesn't dry just by looking at it, dries lovely and uniform. Covers extremely well. Can get it mixed in thousands of colours. A very consistent quality product. Brilliant.
Great review Phil. Agree with your assessment, Rembrandt like a knife for cutting in emulsion. Oldfields Window Doors and Architrave brushes are still the best IMO.
The Leyland trade durable Matt pretty good especially in colours, as a cheap durable it's about the same price as Johnstone vinyl matt. Excellent colour matching at johnstones dec centres to all brands. Leyland durable Matt also a dead flat finish which helps poorer surfaces. I was hesitant to try it but impressed 👍🏻
Hi Phil, I have use Macphersons acrylic p/undercoat for a long time. More body than Jono/Leyland and obviously less expensive than some. Will try this in colour. Thanks for the tip. Bob. Albion Decoration. Weston super Mare.
hi Phil like Sidney i have used mc phersons for many years a good quality trade paint , i am also a retied painter and decorator from Glasgow area, personally i liked Purdy brushes , expensive or bought trade brushes from crown trade points all good
@@ProfessionalPainterDecorator this is very true! I just had a particularly bad experience with it on one job, never quite looked like it was covering but not had the same issue quite that bad since! 👍🏼
@ProfessionalPainterDecorator every time I've been in , there's no other customers..... one complaint i have , nothing was priced up , I'm not going to keep asking them how much stuff is
@@denniskeogh3422 well, we get invoiced and then check on their website for RRP prices, when doing quotes and find we're paying more or only a few pence less than retail. lol had many a conversation over that with Pw at the P&D show over the years.
Hi Guys, I need a primer for old brick, That sticks like glue, Having used Valspar paint From B&Q which just peeled off, I need a decent brand, I did see a product from France, But cant remember the brand. Any one out there who can recommend a great primer, and top coat, would be really apreciated. thanks
For the professional, I found Arroworthy to be crap in general for brushes and overpriced and very short lasting. The classic is suited more to the D.I.Yer that doesn't hold any paint without dripping all over the place. The yellow Rembrant loses shape very quickly but as a stiff brush is great for pebble dash and very rough walls. So as usual, from the professionals view, we have learned nothing from thus video, only promotion of brands by Phil unfortunately. The brands own him now.
British Oldfields or Australian Monarchs. Oldfield's angle cut in 2 inch is a great brush in anything. 2 inch Monarchs straight cut, thick profile, a legend.
Arrowworthys are always really nice out the box, but your lucky to get a a month out of them before they're knackered. Hold barely any paint either My faves are oldfields, hold loads, wash well and last ages
@@leezeraloe3821 I’ll get some Oldfields when I need new brushes then. I’ve got 3 cut in brushes and the paint warrior one is my preferred brush out of the three. The other 2 are the arroworthy classic and the Wooster ultra… I’m not a pro mind you but the arroworthy one is a bit of a pain to clean and the although the Wooster is a firm brush on the packet I find it to be pretty soft compared to my paint warrior brush
I have used the Proform Blaze brushes for years now. They stay decent even after using them for months. The Proform Picasso bristles get quite coarse after a few jobs, when the tops of the bristles have worn away.

Rembrandt sash brush for multi paynes of glass on doors and windows is really good, makes easy work for me
For me phil it’s oldfields does woodwork and walls very soft yet seems to last forever
Rembrandt is my go to wall and ceiling brush

Love the rembrants for tops and classics for woodwork!
Used this for a few years love it..
Hi Phil, used that durable Matt for a few years now and yes it’s great . I thought it has a slight smell to it but it is a good paint 👌
Good paint
It's really underrated.
Cheep and good hard finish.
Application is good as well.
Munro Decorators 👍🏻

Thanks for sharing. We used to use Purdy, the ones with the blue bristle (Pro Extra).
Do you only use the angled classic on wood work buddy
no, the flat as well, also the Nour Heritage if it big areas of woodwork that need a nice coat applied
yeah iv been using it for a while now, great gear goes on well too.
Good to hear!
Great in deeper colours, coverage not as great in light colours but still a nice drop though
@@thebearthecave8502 is with a lot of paints in whites and light colours. :(

Friendly Tip! Which brush is best for acrylic? Filaments? Brush for oil? Filaments? Cheers!
any of those.
When’s your video on Maverick brushes….got a box set from Brewers but yet to try them….
I've not got any yet
I thought you charmed Jane the Maverick rep quite well….nit well enough to get any freebie’s….maybe next time 👍
Hello mate you should do a durable test for all the durable paints would be a really interesting video
Great suggestion! not easy to do, so I'll say, any durable is better than just using vinyl matt :)
Friendly Tip! Which brush and kind of bristle are best to apply acrylic matt? Cheers!
for woodwork or larger areas, like walls and ceilings?
Any flashing phil ?
no, couldn't see any. unlike what I find using (which i don't anymore) vinyl matt dulux.
Paintwell not so good in Telford now..... they are closing in December.... even less choice now😢
why that?

is this to be painted as a masonry paint?
Use nothing else been using it for years

what no R&D?
