Blue book is a guide for banks to determine how much money could be lent for a particular vehicle as equipped. Moreover banks arent going to lend 100% of a vehicles value, they're gonna lend about 80%. The difference the buyer makes up as a down payment. The Blue Book is not the Bible. A 4wheel drive heavy-duty pickup is not going to bring the same price in New York City as it would in Odessa Texas. Also there are some soft market cars that can be aquired for less than wholesale Blue Book, but sell for close to what Blue book says is market value. Best way to estimate a vehicles value, is to search the ads and find a vehicle that is the same make, kind and similar condition as yours and see determine from the seller what the lowest offer they would take for the car. The litigants in a court case should bring these findings to court with them as evidence.
