Great fly and looking good as always Barry, i usually insert a small tungsten bead inside the conehead for the extra weight
Thanks. If I am using a long hook that works great but on shorter hooks it limits your possabillities because of the head size with a bead.
Awesome !! Love the salt water flies !! Thanks again!!
Glad you enjoyed it Richard.
Hello Barry, I picked up your Proven Patterns Seatrout series at the recent International fly fair. I've been trying to reverse engineer Illytd Griffiths's Leuad Llawn featured in the book but struggling. Any chance you could feature it on the channel. Warm Wishes
Hi Rob, as soon as I am finished with the new book I'll try and get one filmed.
thats one for a good rolling wave in the tide!! outstanding barry!! it really is an early xmas box seeing all these salywater flies 👍👍
Glad that you are enjoying them.
@@Thefeatherbender sure am mate, anything sea-trout and im on it 😂 thanks again barry 👍
Is that fly going to ride hook up . If not shouldn't the darker color be on top
Hi Bill, yes it fishes up side down.,
I think Mustad is getting the short shrift these days. I remember when they were the most commonly found hook out there. I believe we have spoken of this before, but they used to make sure only those people working on the hook making, knew how to do it and then only the one job they were responsible for. They made a good book. Then a bunch of cheaper hooks came out, most of them were cheap for a reason. After that European hooks became more available and they had good marketing strategy. Mustad sort of seemed to back off for a bit, maybe while it bought Partridge? I don't know why they bothered!? Partridge had some nice designs that were ended by Mustad. The Draper Hook was one of them.
Mustad seems to have evolved over the last five years or so, but here they are not as easily found as some of the others, like Ahrex and even Hanak which is a Euro Book. What is happening in the Book world Barry? Why are we seeing this?
i think everyone went V.M.C. crazy
Hi Kerry, Its a long story but... The fly hook business for Mustad is now just a fraction of a much bigger picture. I have worked as a fly tying consultant for Mustad for over 20 years now, and this year the new Mustad Heritage hooks are launched that I have been involved with for many years, especially changing designes and having more barbless in the program, so things are about to change! Most of the brands that you name above are made by Mustad so they have not been so far out of the market. The big launch will be in Jan 2022.
@@Thefeatherbender you mean 2023 I'm assuming. I know you work for Mustad thus my comment, I figured you could answer my question. I like Mustad, they were the first books I used back when I started tying. It was always a challenge evading dinosaurs on the way to the fly shop to pick up hooks and pterodactyl feathers. It would be nice to see them make a "come back" if you will. After many years of hardware fishing on the Coast I realized Mustad sold many other hooks as well. I am trying to forgive them for shutting down the Draper Hook production, though I bought 600 of them from the fellow who bought their remaining stock.

Thank you.
