I don't need another safari... I don't need another safari... I don't need another safari... but... that pink cliff with the grip & finial from my springgreen safari (and the pink grip & finial on the green...) could be chef's kiss 😘
Me too. If they had made them the color that you see when they are closed, i would probably buy both. But now, it's neither of them. They look more kids suited on my eyes.
I love them!!! And the inks look great! I see the Safari as a fun pen because of all of the colors. Putting two colors in one pen makes them even more fun!!! And they are great writers, to boot!
I picked up the blackberry because purple pens are the best, and it matches my winter jacket, which is magenta with a purple lining, so it had to be done!
I can understand that perfectly. I do like the matchy-matchy with my favorite things and colors - including my walls. Now I’m wanting my bathroom painted a deep smoky plum. That’ll blend with the Tavistock in the family Tartan colors. Matching pens and inks are nice little perks.
I really like the concept, and I'm glad to see Lamy branching out from what they've done in the past. It remains to be seen if I'll snag either of these, but I do really like the violet blackberry.
I know I’m seeing some people say they don’t like them but I love them! I had a hard time deciding which one to buy but ended up with the Violet Blackberry because I really love the matching ink!! I love brown inks and this looks like a brownish purple to me - which is perfect!!
Always happy to get a new purple Lamy! Violet Blackberry will definitely be joining my collection. I think Herbin Poussiere de Lune would be a great ink choice for that one.
it's definitely outside their normal MO! I'm sure they've been frankenpenning thigns at Lamy for years, it's definitely not something we thought of first 😋 but who knows, maybe Drew pushed them over the...cliff? thank you, thank you -Brian Goulet
I'm just absolutely thrilled that they're doing the matching inks again; I've missed them! LAMY inks are my favorites for everyday and I have unashamedly already bought two bottles of each of this year's colors from you guys. I regret missing out on the Dark Lilac ink (it was the year before I really got into pens), but I do have a bottle of Petrol that I use extremely sparingly!
I recently bought a Lamy fountain pen in Germany. Found these videos when searching for ink options. I had no idea that watching fountain pen and ink videos could be so relaxing and enjoyable. I have not used a fountain pen since my childhood school days in Germany, and now I wonder why I ever gave it up. I definitely like my Lamy pen, and I can see buying multiple colors in the future. The ink choices listed in this video are wonderful.
I don't really vibe with the blackberry combo, but like the Pink Cliff. And in general, I like them taking a page out of Sailor's book and seeking out interesting color combinations!
Yeah... So I love the colors of both barrels, and would probably buy both if the grips were made in the matching colors. As it is though, I'm probably just gonna get the inks. Although who knows. That may change once I see the pens in person in my local shop.
I love the Safari. I saw this Blackberry in a gift set with a box of cartridges and a bottle of that luscious blackberry ink and fell like a sack of cement. I’ve got that on my wish list, but I’m just adding the Vista to my pens and it will be here day after tomorrow. I’m hyped! I was hiding behind my small collection for years, fence sitting off and on before I saw a short on the Lamy Safari. My curiosity was piqued; although I was not immediately attracted to the look of the pen in general, but at just under $20 for one in charcoal I was determined to learn what the hype was about. I’ve been writing with this pen every day, and now I am running! It’s so comfortable to write with, effortless almost, which is such a huge for me. I’m older and I have arthritis, but I’d rather write longhand with a fountain pen than stare at screen and feel a keyboard under my hands. There’s a certain pace that comes with pen and ink, a romance with words and meter that no keyboard can ever translate. (I experienced something similar in past years, when comparing a vintage Underwood typewriter and a newly marketed word processor.) So, I absolutely love the Safari, I can’t wait to use the Vista, and this Blackberry is pure eye candy. The three colors together looked so nice as you rolled them together in your hand (aha, subtle sales tactic). I have plans for the cream and the white for contrast though, first - soon, I think. I’m interested in the subtleties and differences in the nibs. And I stopped here because I want to see what others think of this intriguing little ‘anytime’ pen (the naysayers too, we’re all different). One never knows what excellent suggestions and ideas one might find when crossing into new territory. I know the colors will be the biggest visual difference in my Lamys for right now, ink colors too, but they are intoxicating. When cream and white scream as though they’re on opposite ends of the spectrum, I’d say yes, I definitely have Lamy fever. It’s wonderfully captivating to reach for this kind of ‘every day’ pen. Thanks for sharing the pair, and then the three colors together. I like! Nice to have found your channel. I’m subscribing so I don’t miss anything ~~~~~
As a LAMY and purple pen lover that has collected every purple pen they have put out over the years, I think I was supposed to be the demographic for these. While the pop of color is cute I'm not convinced on the pens this year. I guess that leaves more for the people that like them. .
I can't believe I caved! I tried to talk myself out of it, but just could NOT resist another purple Lamy! Violet Blackberry Pen and Ink are on their way to me!
So excited for these pens! I was fascinated by the red/yellow combo they did a little while back and the USA pen. Interested to see if this continues to be a trend.
Honestly this is the first safaris I’ve seen that catch my fancy. I wasn’t around for the dark lilac or I’d probably have gotten one but both of these… nice!
I got both of them as a gift set, with converter and matching inks. This was my first order from Goulet Pens and I absolutely LOVE IT! Both pens are fantastic, I love how non-conventional the colour choices are compared to previous special editions. My favourite of the two pens is the Pink Cliff, but I'm not as excited about either ink as I thought I was going to be. The cliff ink is like the Lamy blue-black, but has some back-face bleeding issues the regular blue and black don't have (paper dependant of course). The blackberry ink is nice, but almost indistinguishable from regular black. It has a very subtle touch of colour, just not as pronounced as it comes out in this video. Not a deal-breaker by any means, I just thought they'd be more saturated and colourful. Overall I'm an extremely happy customer though 😊
I like these. If a person really doesn't like the contrast, it's possible to get a replacement section if you look around the Internet. An Al-Star section would work.
It would work, but we will have a frankenpen of the frankenpens 😂 I, and many more, demand a version number 2 with barrel colors on grip and top of this 2024 special edition safaris.
It would have been nice to have a pair of pens that parts could be exchanged to make different color combinations or have a solid color as per your personal preference.
@@Gouletpens well, I think they are going to have a reaction from a lot of people😅🤣 (positive or negative). At the end is a question of preferences. I won't be so sad if there was the possibility of Lamy making the grip sections for these pens in the same color of the barrel at some point in the future .. because the barrels I like them a lot! But now these pens are probably never going to happen.
You’re not alone. I was thinking the same thing. I love my Safaris. It was my very first fountain pen as an 11 year old that I used for seven years during my secondary school education. I’m an old Brit that was educated before digital and the internet so we had to use fountain pen, ink and paper! It was also the pen that I rediscovered in 2020 that relaunched my fountain pen obsession. However, as much as I love Lamy, these pens are an abomination. I really hate the sections, especially the pink one, but I love the main body colours. What to do? Do I buy them anyway to add to my extensive Lamy Safaris and Al Stars that I already have and frankenpen with my other safaris if I can’t live with the clashing colours. Let’s be honest, I don’t need another Safari but clearly I have a problem. I’m so torn. Knowing me I’ll buy it anyway. Go’dang it!
I like the inks, definitely getting both but I’m going to have to pass on the pens, not a fan of the pink grip section. Definitely unexpected and some fun designs though!
Gasp! Pink Cliff will finally fill my need for a matte Lamy with which I will use my Pilot Iroshizuku tsutsuji pink ink for corrections. And that blackberry ink will be perfect in my matte purple Lamy Safari, which I rarely use so the ink tends to dry out so I will be wanting the cartridges when they come out. I did not need another pen, but I do need THIS pen! I'll have to find someone to whom I can give my shiny pink Safari. And thank you for another great review video.
Just when I had decided maybe I should hold off on new pens I got the email that the Captain Hook was back in stock and I saw these. My Dark Lilac is my only Safari right now and one of my favorite workhorse pens, just from feel. Now I'm just hoping that the Captain Hook will stay in stock until these drop. For the magenta matching, I can't say that it'll be perfectly in line, but Noodler's Saguaro Wine and Cactus Fruit Eel are a couple very similar colors that are some of my favorite samples I've ever gotten that look a lot like some of the ones you were showing.
The bodies are really pretty but they lost me at the grips. While I'm all about pink, I'm just not in love with these combinations. Nice job on the ink choices, Brian! Those were all so beautiful!
If only they could made a second version later this year for us... There are way too many people that like the barrel's colors but not the rest of them.
Love the inks! On the fence about the pens, but it would be the matte body if I got one. When I saw the video thumbnail, I wondered if it was possibly a spoof! 😅
They make a left handed nib, but I’ve seen people write with the regular nibs, so maybe someone else who’s left handed will belatedly answer that for you. Not that I’m ambidextrous by any sense of the word, but I actually tried mine in my left hand using both strokes (if you push) and it worked great. But then, I’m definitely NOT ambidextrous, lol! I love this pen, and Saturday my Vista is due to be here so I’m looking forward to that one too.
Definitely interested in the Pink Cliff. It may be because I had just watched the "new this week" video from Thursday, but that new Ferris Wheel Sherry Sonata might not look too bad with the Cliff.
Pink cliff looks like a bouldering wall and the grip could well be the colour of one of the holds screwed into it. I wonder if that's what they were going for considering the name.
As a lefty, the fountain pens don't work for me, especially with the Barbie-esque pink touches. But I ordered the pink cliff Safari ballpoint for its single-color barrel and "graphite"-like finish. Hope it's suitable for my tastes. Thanks for your review.
I might be one of the few in this camp, but I'm not as big a fan of these colorways. I think I might have preferred them had they gone with either the blackberry or the steel blue color throughout the pen. I think it's the pink grip sections that are throwing me off. Maybe I'll come to love them after seeing them for a while, but I'm not initially sold. I do however really like the violet blackberry ink and think I might pick that bottle up at some point.
While not my style for pens, I can see the apeal to others. I do like the inks though. The second Brian opened the cap to show pink, I instantly said that's got Drew's name written all over it.
I love them both and kinda wish the Pink Cliff ink was more like its namesake 😊 but I still got both and the inks. My only other Lamy is a Vista so they finally got me with these, and I've never had Lamy inks. Fun but still work appropriate for me, which is nice.
I do not need another pen. I don't... oh, wait... Yes I do. I have a hand condition that's been coming on for a long time, and that's why I use fountain pens: Takes less pressure to write. But I had a flare and now must stay with lighter pens (several lovely pens retired). For home and desk, my Pilot Falcon soft fine is perfect. But my carry pen, a Lamy Safari, um, suffered a casualty a while back: love nibbles from my late cat. It still works but is hard to hold onto because of her indentations. Plus: it has a med nib, too big for me now. I missed out on the lime green cutie a while back, and didn't care for the spring green. I'm picky about colors, so just waited. But now it is here. That luscious looking violet blackberry. Yum. I love the color combination. Simple pen in glam fitting.
Maybe Lamy watched Sailor do so much color blocking that they felt they had to get into the game. Going with pink and magenta seems pretty risky though -- they are surely "love 'em or hate 'em" colors. I like the barrel color of the Pink Cliff and would probably get one if it had a matching grip and finial. But these are not for me. Nice to see Lamy putting out some new inks though!.
I think this is the first time in a while Lamy made a special edition ink. I was starting to think they just quit this and the Crystal series was there as a compensation.
I like the violet grip but tbh, I don't really like either of those new pens. The violet grip would look good on the 2016 dark lilac Safari (the nicest of all the purple ones imo) but the first pen with the pink grip is really ugly. They might look better as metallic AL Stars but I won't be buying either of these. I fill my cartridges with ink syringes as I've found you can get more in and you also kinda feel like a scientist.
Hi Brian, can we hear from Drew on this subject please haha. We all want to hear Drew's renaming of these new pens c: . Anyways, I think Lamy are starting to understand the markets outside of Germany and we are starting to see some really interesting things emerge, it's some exciting times.
They both are so pretty! But I really wish there was an option to get them with a grip that matches the barrel.
I agree. I'm not a fan of pink or magenta....
I think I'll get the violet blackberry and switch out a smokey transparent grip section I have from another safari.
Oh, what a shame. I love the matte one, but the pink section is a huge disappointment 🫤 That's saved me some pennies, anyway 😂
I don't need another safari... I don't need another safari... I don't need another safari... but... that pink cliff with the grip & finial from my springgreen safari (and the pink grip & finial on the green...) could be chef's kiss 😘
I think I like the corresponding inks more than the actual pens
Same here

Grandma Pens ! ! Both grandmas were in Oregon - lots of blackberry pie and jam ! !
I'm at the beginning of my fountain pen exploration. Pink Cliff is definitely going on my list.
I really love Lami pens for everyday use. My vote always goes to Matte finish and black nibs.
Ooh, very nice! I like the blackberry especially.
I really like the concept, and I'm glad to see Lamy branching out from what they've done in the past. It remains to be seen if I'll snag either of these, but I do really like the violet blackberry.
fair enough! Thanks for weighing in -Brian Goulet
I wish the blackberry was matte, I always like the matte Safaris better. But definitely planning on snagging both inks!
I know I’m seeing some people say they don’t like them but I love them! I had a hard time deciding which one to buy but ended up with the Violet Blackberry because I really love the matching ink!! I love brown inks and this looks like a brownish purple to me - which is perfect!!

Very pretty colors, Brian. Thanks for also showing the ink pairs. Blessings
you're welcome! -Brian Goulet
The pen in Pink cliff, yes please ❤ love at first sight.
I like them! The color combinations are interesting.
Colour me... puzzled. Shiny purple, matt pink grip? Can't help thinking the Lamy design team saw Drew's Hallowe'en video and ran with it!

Sailor ink Studio 941 is one of my favorite inks and would definitely pair with the blue/gray and pink combo safari.
Ok Brian, I'm sold, just ordered the Violet/Blackberry . My first Lamy, in my collection KB

The pink cliff color is great except the pink. I’d be getting it if it were all the one color
I ordered the pink cliff from your site today. Can’t wait to get it! I am using it for a work pen so I got Lamy blue-black cartridges for it.
I'm sold.

I need a link to the Wrongsandwich video!
Brian, How do you think the Cliff ink will perform in a Lamy 2000?
Why does Lamy insist on depriving us of Dark Lilac ink.
We keep asking for it...who knows. Lamy Crystal Azurite is the closest they have right now. -Brian Goulet
I’m with you! There’s a great recipe for matching it using Pilot Iro inks! Dead on!
@@sjo99 I’ve seen that copycat recipe online. I haven’t tried it yet. I will have to!

Oooohh, any chance you have a link? I guess it wouldn’t be too hard to find though? Thanks for that share!
omggg I loove it. They remind me of candy!
I love that LAMY has decided to embrace the Franken-possibilities 😅🤭🤣 🩷💙💜 🙌🥳
Oh yeah. I like em.
Hi Brian, can we hear from Drew on this subject please haha. We all want to hear Drew's renaming of these new pens c: . Anyways, I think Lamy are starting to understand the markets outside of Germany and we are starting to see some really interesting things emerge, it's some exciting times.
Does Lamy make a green/yellow combo? Unless I buy a green and a yellow and swap the barrels?
They don't make that combo currently, so in order to get that, you'd need to swap it yourself -Brian Goulet
