Did you know? If you use the guard action, it will double your attack power for the next attack. And guess what? This effects STACKS. So basically, have one character guard up and other buff up/ heal and boss fights will be a breeze. Also always convert your gold into gems from merchants whenever you leave town. They can be resold at full value anytime and you do not lose them unlike your gold. That way, dying doesnt become a big deal.
I’ve always played it as the Wilme/Valsu combo, grinding it out pretty early for Elixir. My best friend managed two different save files as Lejes joined by Valsu, making quite the power duo. He passed away 5 months ago and his save file is still on my SNES cartridge after all these years and it will remain for as long as I live.
I have a save state on my phone where 2 days ago i got valsu to join me a lejes. Ive always used valsu and Kamil as my party. But this time i wanted to just try lejes. Valsu offered to join me the 3rd time i talked to him. I feel it will be an awesome combo
I'm off the opinion that Wilme/valsu is the optimized set up. That being said they are also the characters I find the least interesting. I like playing as Leges with Kamil as a second. I also like Kamil solo or playing as Esuna with whoever as my second.
Theres some misinformation in this video but i kind of expected that to be honest. The whole olvan is the slowest is a bit unfair. Hes no slower than kamil or lux. Also he doesn't have the lowest magic growth thats wilme. Lejes stat growth isnt worse than kamil in any area and it's better in some. His biggest issue is his gear choices. Im pretty sure wilme isn't weak to fire in fact I'm pretty sure he actually resists it but his magic stat is so low it usually doesn't matter.
Lejes is slept on. Tbh Lejes is the only character that can actually benefit from the bonus effects of every Rune. This is because every other character has an overlap with one of the Runes by already possessing the Runes ability. Such as Esuna already possessing Heal 1 & 2. Making the Water Rune useless for her.
It feels like 7th Saga goes through this every few years with lots of people saying all kinds of stuff about Lejes. Me, I've always chose Esuna or Olvan.
Cause LeJes is nerfed. He doesn't have enough choices of spells. His magic isn't as strong as Esuna or Valsu. So that makes him more likely Kamil than the wizards. To which he doesn't get enough equipment choices. Why bother with LeJes than?
@@CurlyFromTheSwirly I agree in theory. But in practice he's much better than his numbers make him look especially if you pair him with the Alien dude. It's like playing final fantasy 1 with all black mages and black belts. Yeah, you'll die. But you'll go out in a blaze of damage lol
@@allenyates3469, It would be more fun than all healers. 😂 I enjoy playing as Lejoke, don't get me wrong. Bur he is nor just weaker, he is designed totally wrong. 1) less intelligence and magic strength than Esuna or Valsu 2) lack of equipment 3) doesn't get lightning spells or power up
As a kid I always picked Esuna cause she was the only girl... Tried playing the Tetujin once and couldn't get out of the first town without the clanking being too much to take.
The only problem with Valsu is that because he doesn’t know any area of affect attack spells, it’s harder for him to power-train in metal pison’s dungeon.
My own tier list for 7th Saga Characters, worst to best: 7. Lejes - Faster than Kamil, with more magic, but overall just sorta meh. 6. Valsu - Like, yeah, sure, every buffing spell and Elixir. Whoopdee do! He couldn't fight his way out of a crowded booth at Denny's, if you ask me. The reason I rate him so low is that due to his low offensive capability, he basically doesn't work well without a partner. I've tried using him a few times, and just find him to be relatively disappointing, but that may be due to how he is in the early game. It's been so long since I've even considered using him seriously that I sometimes forget he exists. Plus there's the fact that you have the runes to buff you for a large portion of the game, anyway. 5. Olvan - An otherwise great character, but lacks so much speed that it really sorta hurts him. 4. Kamil - The all rounder, pretty good at all things. Kind of the basis for what's good and what's bad imo. 3. Lux - He has notably lower speed than Wilme, so while he gets the same buffing benefit for offense and has far better magic, his lower speed causes him to miss a lot more often. If you choose him as your main, he's about as slow as Olvan :( You can also do the Melenam glitch with him, causing him to have max stats, which is something often done in speedruns of the game. I don't like it at all, though, so it kind of hurts him in my eyes. 2. Esuna - She's incredible. Super fast, great magic, and a great compliment to any duo. However, she lacks durability, especially early on where she's not dodging routinely. Once she's got enough of that, though, she can get insane with the buffs, and having such high speed. Not too mention instant death and healing. 1. Wilme - He's super fast and super strong, and in the JP version he is NAKED. His hair is also a horn in that version. His only real weakness is his low magic stat, but generally his speed makes up for it. I've never felt bad about using him. My first playthrough of the game was done with a Wilme / Lux team, and the only snag I ran into was that Esuna was the one who stole/obtained that one rune. So once I found her, Wilme was in for quite the pitched battle, against someone as fast as him, with a strength that exploits his weakness. Not too mention the Eldenard Stats. In the end, like FF1, the tier list is mostly useless though, unless you're doing some sort of challenge run or restricting item use or something. And in those cases, the line up of tiers would also change, so it's kind of whatever. Any character can beat the game, some just do it better for most of it, than others.
When I played through and beat this game for the first time, I chose Esuna as my main and took Valsu with me for the ride. Esuna was awesome with her range and versatility, but I was extremely impressed by how well Valsu held up in this title in spite of him essentially being the white mage. Needless to say, I agree with your top two choices. :)
@@psychopathyoutubeemployees280 HAHA, thanks for the reply to my year old comment! But I agree - the ending is honestly one of the most annoying troll endings of any game (especially if you played the nightmare-hard US version as opposed to Elnard) Everything you did, is for nothing. I'd say for SNES RPGs, the only worse troll ending is Ihatovo Monogatari's, which... well, it turns out you're literally helping people unalive themselves, then you eat literal poop and then unalive yourself.
I always got the impression you were resurrected as Lemele in a new, better timeline. Being you kill the final boss outright rather than simply sealing his powers away as what happened in the original timeline.
@@questionablebackyardmeows Not Really. SPOILERS: In the original timeline, Gorsia steals your runes and sends you back. From then on it is a different timeline, one where Gorsia beat Saro (the good God) and didn't end up wounded and hidden. In this timeline you regather the runes and seal Gorsia of this timeline, but he kills you. Saro reincarnates you as Lemelee, and you're now immortal. In this new Timeline, you are the king, and there's no need to gather runes to defeat anyone. It ends where it started full circle, but it's not a time loop. You are the immortal king and peace was achieved. There's no need to send (or gather) aprentinces. You just become king and rule the new present in which you reincarnated. It's a different timeline.
Back in my grade school years I beat this with Esuna with Olvan. As an adult, I get wrecked before going to the snowy continent. This game needed Pison mode where you hunt everyone down.
A good video for an overlooked RPG. I played with Kamil first time around and then Olaf. My playthrough with Kamil was a bit rough though I used Valsu both times due to his Elixir spell. Unfortunately, for me, I was turned off by Wilme and Lux due to their low gear variety. You'd think not having to buy gear would be a good selling point... well not for kid me. If I had played the game again, it might have been with Esuna, but the grind was too much for me to play again. Once to try it out, a second to try better, and my younger brother playing Lux was enough for me.
One of my all time favorites. Beat it for the first time with Lux, but Leges was always my favorite. Esuna is the favorite partner to have and Valsu was the hardest run. Love the content.
Lejes is my favorite char in this game! But yeah....... Knew right out the gate I was seeing him first on this list. I personally have Lejes over both Olvan and Kamil due to his speed stat but maybe that's just me and my experience/favoritism. Hard to not agree with the rest of the list.
Back in the winter of '99, I bought this game second-hand, and I went on to playing it non-stop for weeks. As someone that never enjoyed raw grinding in RPGs, I struggled to make progress. I made numerous playthrough with different characters, and I eventually DID beat the game! Wilme/Esuna was my team in the playthrough I got to the end. Man, that game, though... Good memories, but I don't see myself playing it ever again. (If I ever do play it again, I'm totally gonna pick Lejes as main character though, hah!)
This is a really cool idea for a list! 7th Saga is one of the few SNES classic RPGs I never got to play, but I'd love for it to get a modern rerelease at some point (maybe on Switch's SNES Online app?)
As for companions: Esuna is the best for everyone. Kamil is my choice for Esuna's companion. Wilme is also a good choice, though not as versatile. As Valsu I would say bring either Lejes of Wilme. Lejes makes the most sense to have a good spell caster and swordsman, but Wilme can also attack everyone.
@@stephen-ngThe original Japanese version is much easier. The game was rebalanced in a rather hasty fashion for the American port, which is why it is so hard and has several awkward spikes in difficultly as you progress.
@@stephen-ng there’s a bug in North American release that makes stats on level up grow less than intended. The game isn’t supposed to be this brutally difficult, and isn’t in the original Japanese version without the bug.
Thanks for this video David! I absolutely love this game even though it's grinding can be mind numbing. I love to listen to videos about the game to see if there is something I didn't know yet. Thanks for the great content!
Esuna was the first character I beat the game with. I didn't think she would be #1 but she is the best in my opinion. Her ice spell remains powerful throughout the entire game and she has good healing and the capacity to regenerate MP.
Wilme is def the best char because hes got max high hp, power and speed and very good guard. I find spells in this game not as effective as just good attack, plus whats the big deal saying he cant heal with magic or buff, just use potions and bottles.
I'm about half way through with Vejes and Kamil. It's super fun because it feels Faustian, like the demon tricked the noble knight into being his heavy lol. I also dabbled with wilme for a while and I think the easiest play through would be Wilme with Valsu or less optimally Esuna
Just recently replayed this game, and I can confirm that Wilme plus Esuna is utterly broken. I picked up Esuna at Lv 14 and never switched allies again; heck, I only died twice in the whole playthrough!
Watching the recent 7th Saga run on RPG Limit Break, and listening to all of the explanations of deliberate changes in the game I no longer believe that the level up bonuses being gone are a bug. It wouldn't have made the game pitifully easy (until late game) to have, but at level 40 you'd have +60 to all stats, and at 60 you'd have +150 to all stats, with virtually all of the bosses being weaker.
What a fun video for one of my favourite RPG! I think my ranking would be from worst to best: Lejes, Olvan, Kamil, Lux, Wilme, Esuna, Valsu. Speed is one of the most important factors because with enough of it, enemies will miss you and you will hit them , which really adds up over time. That is why Wilme is hugely powerful in my opinion. I will always have a soft spot for Olvan; he was my very first character/playthrough! I think Valsu edges out Esuna in my ranking because of his super healing and getting the Agility spell. He is less balanced that Esuna as a magic user. I loved listening to Lux clanking after I got used to it, but remember being a bit shocked when I realised it would last the whole game!
I love this game! Even though Esuna is physically the weakest, her magic attacks are the deadliest. She can often wipe out 3 monsters with 1 or 2 shots of blizzard. Get her magic to 200+ and 3 swords are gone in one blow.
you know, i would love a remake of this game as well as the "sequel" for modern systems, just maybe fix whatever bug made the stat growths lower than the japanese version?
The lowered stat growths was intentional to keep people from beating the game over a weekend rental. Of course, they forgot to adjust the stats for rival fights, making them basically impossible.
Thank you so much for this video!! It was definitely a trip down memory lane for me. For almost 10 plus years I wondered if having chosen Esuna as my character was the reason why the game was so difficult for me. The other characters looked strong, but I'm a sucker for "healer looking" archetypes, so I went with her. Seeing her on the top spot made me so happy 😊😊😊
7th Saga is one of my favorite, nostalgic RPGs. I was given this game when I was a kid, never beat it at age 7. Revisited it years later (11? 12?) and beat it then. After this game, all jrpgs are a breeze really.
This is one of the only 2 or 3 SNES RPGs that I never played over several decades of gaming on my favorite console. Going thru it now with an Esuna / Olvan combo and I really like this game now having just received the 3rd rune. Love the art style and this game's difficulty frankly I find to be a good thing, aside from certain monsters showing up on the world map that are just way overpowered compared to the others. Well, back to farming brains near Guntz I go!
I never managed to beat the game as a kid...Mostly cause i only played as Lejes and never teamed up with anyone other then Lux cause i thought he was cool.
I settled on Lux back when it came out because he was the only character not to get one shotted early on. Kamil was boring to me, Olvan a bit better. Lejes and Wilne were the most fun. Btw; 7th Saga's character and monster stats were all screwed up in the localisation from Elnard to this game. In Elnard, they were actually like the game manual describes.
Lux and Wilme are the simplest however Wilme easily gets killed by fire magic so maybe pick Lux for the absolute easiest time. As Partners Valsu and Lejes are pretty good. As your main character : Lux Wilme Esuna Olvan Valsus Lejes Kamil Only Kamil really sucks and Lejes is pretty fragile As partners Lejes Valsu Lux Olvan Esuna Wilme Kamil Olvan has two bonus dungeons if you take him as partner too if you want to get side quests.
I feel bad for Lejes. He was my favorite in concept and design, but I can't disagree with his bottom ranking. You'd think full access to two elements and an average attack rating would count for something, but no. With only two party members, you really need characters that excel in different aspects. Lejes, just doesn't. No wonder I only ever beat the game with Esuna (paired with Kamil) and Valsu (paired with Lux). I was playing on easy mode the whole time... I shall return my True Gamer card in shame now.
5:36 : “I mean, with 4 melee fighters duking it out for supremacy, and Lejes in the toilet with no healing whatsoever “ I fkin LOLD ! i had to replay this part so many times to make sure i quoted you right, that it got to the point that i pictured the other characters gathered around laughing like high class people with top hats partying and Lejes taking a spicy dump or whatever wishing he had healing to make his fiery endeavor a little more bearable.
Complete start to finish run with each character? Bruh, you’re a legend. I’ve probably started and stopped this game seven times without finding more than 2-3 runes. Brutal game. Hats off, sir.
I rented this game back in the day but struggled after I lost my runes (couldn't get them back).Played Alien with Robot. I actually like the game in spite being hard.
It turns out that Lejes is amazing at soloing the game. I tried this out a few years ago and had a surprisingly easy time. He has strong magic to clear out mobs, high speed to dodge most attacks by late game, and decent physical attack for bosses. Bonus: he has fire spells so he can quickly defeat a really annoying late-game boss that is only weak to fire. The only two parts of the game that were really hard were Red-Pison (b/c you need to beat him at a low level to avoid having to grind excessively before Patrof) and the final boss (whose attack and magic hit so hard it's basically up to the RNG whether you live long enough to debuff him and buff yourself). Everything else was just as easy as a normal playthrough and you level up a lot faster solo.
I played this using Wilme as main char and Valsu as companion, for me they are the best duo in the game, or arguably even to Lux Valsu duo. Using other duo combination, is like you just want to add more difficulty in the game, while having the excitement experience of getting or buying new stronger equips.
Lejes should be a lot higher. The one thing people gloss over when playing this game thats super important is the secondary effects of the seven Runes. Majority of which add spells to your spell list if you don't already have them. Thing is, is that every other character (except for Lux and Wilme) has an overlap with the Runes. For example, Water Rune gives you Heal 1 & 2 spells, Moon Rune gives you Power spell and Star Rune gives Defense 1 spell. Except Esuna already learns those spells. Making the benefit completely useless to her. But Lejes on the other hand would love access to those spells. As he only possesses offensive magic. This makes him scale way harder in the late game compared to other characters.
I am currently playing main Luxe with Kamil second. This keeps a mid difficulty without having to grind as much. Just enough healing magic to sustain, and attack magic for physical resist enemies, but plenty of HP and physical attack to not turn every common encounter into a chess match. If you want to barbar dmash the game, i recommend this combo
Olvan is so underrated. IMO he's a direct upgrade over Kamil. His speed stat is identical in both starting and growth. He has better equipment. It's true that his magic stat is bad, but that doesn't matter so much since he gets MP Catcher where Kamil does not. He has higher strength, has the 2nd best guard stat in the game as well as the 2nd best HP growth, and all he loses are a few worthless fire spells that he wouldn't be good at casting anyway (and neither is Kamil). He can also cast defense 1 which, yes, for a large section of the game you won't need due to having the Star rune, but there are important sections where you won't have it and it's "really" nice to be able to turn 1 defense both characters. IMO he's about on par with Lux. He performs better in the early and mid games as both a support and a tank/dps than Lux, but when mid game is transitioning to late game Lux does better due to his stats almost catching up to Olvan's geared stats, which as you mentioned means his buffed state is significantly higher, but honestly it's the early and mid games that are the hardest parts of this game, so I still prefer Olvan. My easiest run by far was Olvan on point with alternating Valsu and Esuna as the secondary (Esuna compliments him better for most of the game, but I like to alternate secondary characters so I don't have to buy gear for them). It's about as easy as Lux on point with Valsu as a secondary, which was also very very easy.
I always found Lejes really strong early game. Lot of offensive power, and more ability to "solo" than others. He doesn't pair well though, and finding a suitable partner was normally tough, and you may be boxed into one or two characters.
Lejes had great evasion too, but when he got hit, he was done for. He had to overwhelm the enemy with his spells or attack because that was high too, to be good. I beat the game with the Alien Wilme Pelin alone with no partners as a kid. Wilme was the strongest though. I couldn't get past a dungeon halfway into the game with Lejes, under some castle. He just couldn't do it alone, solo, even if I leveled there. Waking up in the new world in that game was refreshing and interesting, leading onto the end of the game. I don't know why but just before the final boss there was a certain magic to that part. Pyson coming back to get revenge, 7th Saga was a great game.
The answer is Esuna. I've never beaten this game, I had a friend who was raised on RPGs because his dad worked in Telecom as a Supervisor and made $$$$$$$$ at the time so he bought a ton of consoles. I was never taught how to play these kinds of games or how to "get into them" so it was a lot of words and more experiencing the world from the perspective of something like a baby than actually playing the game. I got quite frustrated and if I remember right, even replaying it on emulator much later I still only ever got to some coastal town and never even got a single Rune. My friend did however, beat the game as a "family" with his older brother and his Dad(who slapped the game silly as a Wizardry player) giving him tips, so... yep, I'm coping.
My favorite will always be Lejes!! Better than average attack power and very high up in speed. He doesn't 'need to do it all' because of his powerful offense. He double attacks a lot more also, but Kamil owns that category.
Lejes should be #5. He basically has all the offensive spells, and his attack is pretty much on par with Kamil. He doesn't have buffs, but that's basically almost a non-factor once you get the star and moon runes. Besides B Pwr and B protect are pretty cheap and I always buy those. He also has good Spd so he doesn't miss as much as Kamil / Olvan and dodges more often. He doesn't have the highest Magic stat, but having access to all the offensive magics make him good against regular enemies. In boss fights, Star / Moon rune using def / atk pretty much is enough to win em all.
Fun fact: this game was not intended to be nearly as hard as it is. The stat growth was bugged in the North American version making everyone much weaker than intended. The original Japanese version didn’t have this issue and is much more reasonable.
Not that I disagree with the list. But it kinda defeats the point of how to play the game. You can always have 2 characters in the game. There are points of the game where some of these characters just don't work. Bringing esuna into the cave of silence is a death sentence without one of the fighter boys. I believe Lux is useless at one point in the game because he's a tetujin. Wilme has ups and downs in power spikes. Everybody is weak at some point in the game, so like...sure, esuna can own at the game until she gets to cave of silence and literally has to run from everything because she can't cast spells.
Even though Leges has his flaws, if you’re careful when he levels up not to accept poor stat boosts, he ends up being a fun character with well-rounded attack power. Whenever I play as Leges, I like to team up with Valsu (which can be difficult to make happen-a demon working with a healer). That way you have the ultimate black mage with decent physical attack teaming up with the ultimate white mage-the best of both worlds. Anyway, I largely agree with your ranking, but the Elixer spell completely nerfs the game when you have enough MP to cast it on your companion and then on Valsu, meaning that you will literally never die unless you happen to receive an unlucky critical hit death blow. You’re basically immortal at this point. So I would rank Valsu as number 1 for this reason.
I beat this game for the first time, blind, about a year. I played it witg a high school friend around 20 years ago. I was certain the fight before being sent back in time was the final boss and was shocked when it wasnt.
My first playthrough as a kid I selected Lejes because he was cool and edgy. I got locked out early on, simply couldn't beat Olvan to get the star rune. I beat the game years later with Esuna, using Lux as a companion.
7:09 "That Bitch can really do it all" hahahaha :D I know right, all these male charecters and the girl is the best?! very uncommon back in the day of this great game:) I even have the over world map music downloaded as my phone ring tone ;)
I actually loved every character for their simple yet unique approach to the game. Unlike today's games where every character can do everything. I personally had Valsu as #1 because he's got the most OP skill in the game and can't be killed. He can be paired with literally anyone because every other character has some sort of hard hitting ability, while, if you use any other character as a main, you're probably looking for Valsu as your main companion. Vaslu established to me how important healers are long before MMOs were even thought about.
Wow, you truly are the (J)RPG master! You even played this one! It doesn't look very appealing to me (though its successor does), but maybe I should give it a go after all.
I'd swap out Kamil for Lejes, but otherwise I agree with the list. Kamil's do-it-all approach in a game with such tight difficulty is actually a disadvantage. He always needs a partner to buoy him late-game. Meanwhile, my first solo run was casually done with Lejes. The terrible defense only bothered me early on against enemies like Pison.
Haha, my taste might have just been terrible I always used to pick Lejes, and Wilme, but then again I would not make it very far because of said choices.
The concept of this game is awesome. 7 characters on a quest for 7 runes of power. I played the 1993 original with Kamil, Lejes, LUX and Esuna. Leveled them up to 81 each (max level... sort of...). Loved it ! A remake of this game would be awesome. They could ditch the turn-based combat for a real-time action based combat. A "soulsborne" type of combat would be perfect.
Sadly, in 7th Saga, physical attacks are king. As someone that loves mages I wish this wasn't true, but..... - Magic stat CANNOT be doubled. The best you can do is buff with the Light rune which doesn't double the stat and is only available for a small portion of the game. - Magic doesn't benefit from the defend/attack mechanic, so there's no other way to increase magic damage outside of the Light rune buff. - Magic is capped at 255. Meanwhile..... - Power stat can doubled through buffing... Also, this stat can be buffed throughout the ENTIRE GAME! B POWER's can be purchased from the first town all the way to the last "town". There's NEVER a point in the game where you completely lose access to buffing Power. Even when you lose access to spellcasting, you still have access to buying B POWER's. - Power can take advantage of the defend/attack mechanic to increase damage output, AND it stacks with the buff. This allows some characters to do insane damage. - Power stat doesn't cap at 255. Physical attacks > Magic attacks Esuna starts off strong and there's DEFINITELY an argument to be made that she's the best to start with, but she starts to fall off steadily as you transition into midgame and then falls further in the endgame. By that time, she's better off buffing herself with POWER and using defend/attack simply because the bosses have such high HP and magic defense. Her Power stat is low which hinders her killspeed, and while her high spd allows her to mitigate some damage, her low HP doesn't allow her to absorb too many of the hits without constantly healing. Wilme starts off strong and only gets stronger. his terrible magic and low resistance are SOMEWHAT offset by his high speed and high HP. This isn't to say he's without weakness, but his defensive capabilities do help compensate for his weakness to spells. Wilme has speed comparable to Esuna, but he can absorb hits MUCH better than she can with his high HP. His only weaknesses are his low defense against magic and the fact that he has no real healing spells. He doesn't get access to equipment (outside of sword), but he doesn't really need it because his raw stats suffice. Lux is much like Wilme except that Wilme averages higher HP and Speed while Lux averages more Magic. Since Speed is THE SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT STAT IN THE GAME, this fact makes Wilme slightly better than Lux. Overall, Wilme is the strongest in the game.
Look out for the Japanese version, Elnard, it's actually how the game was supposed to be which was far easier, 3 bonus on level up is a character's weakest level up, with 7 being the highest. Your strenght is then on par with the npcs characters you are not playing as. In the NA version the highest stat for you on gain would be 3, 1 at the weakest, but the npc opponent characters you fight GET the 3-7 range.

Lejes is the only character that can actually benefit from the bonus effects of every Rune.
This is because every other character has an overlap with one of the Runes by already possessing the Runes ability. Such as Esuna already possessing Heal 1 & 2. Making the Water Rune useless for her.

I enjoy playing as Lejoke, don't get me wrong. Bur he is nor just weaker, he is designed totally wrong.
1) less intelligence and magic strength than Esuna or Valsu
2) lack of equipment
3) doesn't get lightning spells or power up
So..... you're telling me that the 7th saga CAN be easier????? THANK YOU DAVE! i'll remember this list ;)
Comment for the algorithm and because you’re awesome David 💪 😎 🌞
As a kid I always picked Esuna cause she was the only girl... Tried playing the Tetujin once and couldn't get out of the first town without the clanking being too much to take.
The only problem with Valsu is that because he doesn’t know any area of affect attack spells, it’s harder for him to power-train in metal pison’s dungeon.
Valsu is best as a support party member than a main character.
I'm glad that you think highly of Esuna, but there's one thing you overlooked...she's cute. 🥰
Which makes this game's ending all the more reason to make LeJes or Wilme the main character.
Love it! I feel that this video was made just for me. The fact that you beat this game with all 7 characters, shows just how hardcore you really are.
Thank you!
I'd say I agree with the list but I prefer Wilme over Lux, because of his very high dodge.
My own tier list for 7th Saga Characters, worst to best:
Any character can beat the game, some just do it better for most of it, than others.
you know your stuff kid.
From the ending, I actually think Lejes is the "canon" path to the time loop...
I agree. The ending is kind of a huge
Food-Under-Car-Keys
you where your character dies TWICE! The second time as Lemele himself.
@@psychopathyoutubeemployees280 HAHA, thanks for the reply to my year old comment! But I agree - the ending is honestly one of the most annoying troll endings of any game (especially if you played the nightmare-hard US version as opposed to Elnard)
Everything you did, is for nothing.
SPOILERS:
In the original timeline, Gorsia steals your runes and sends you back.
This game needed Pison mode where you hunt everyone down.
beating this game 7 times as a kid really shows that you don´t need guides or really anything but willpower to beat a hard game
Surprising enough. My first time beating the 7th Saga was with Esuna as my main character, and Tetsujin as my partner.
I honestly thing Esuna + Lux is the strongest combo, with Valsu + Lux being a very close second.
Welcome to hard mode with lejes!
Looking at the fountain makes you feel better
This is a really cool idea for a list!
7th Saga is one of the few SNES classic RPGs I never got to play, but I'd love for it to get a modern rerelease at some point (maybe on Switch's SNES Online app?)
Lejes + Valsu OP!
As for companions:
Esuna is the best for everyone.
Kamil is my choice for Esuna's companion. Wilme is also a good choice, though not as versatile.
As Valsu I would say bring either Lejes of Wilme. Lejes makes the most sense to have a good spell caster and swordsman, but Wilme can also attack everyone.
Lejes is probably one of the best characters in the original un-nerfed version.
Un-nerfed? I only remember an SNES cartridge.
Ohhhh thank you for this! Don’t care what anyone says: I love this game!
I feel if we got the original Japanese version I would have liked this more, when I was a young warthog. Would be fun to watch you do a LP!
Don't forget, Esuna isn't just a fantastic main, she'll never stab you in the back if she's your buddy. 😉👍
I love her and Lux for this reason.
She and Lux will also never be the Patrof killer.
@@chileshems88 You got it! 👍🏻
I love this game! Even though Esuna is physically the weakest, her magic attacks are the deadliest. She can often wipe out 3 monsters with 1 or 2 shots of blizzard. Get her magic to 200+ and 3 swords are gone in one blow.
One of my all time faves, thanks for taking the time to make content about it.
I never manager to beat this, and you beat with all seven. Damn. My hat is off to you sir! Game gives me nightmares...
you know, i would love a remake of this game as well as the "sequel" for modern systems, just maybe fix whatever bug made the stat growths lower than the japanese version?
I agree!
The lowered stat growths was intentional to keep people from beating the game over a weekend rental. Of course, they forgot to adjust the stats for rival fights, making them basically impossible.
@@Xifihas either way, i sort of want the 2 in one cause the sequel never left japan. also full of stuff you can't make up.
There was a sequel, although dunno if it was any good.
@@zxKAOS1 what's it called?
For me its valvu nr 1 and els nr 2 But the best team I had was Valvu and Olvon. Just give him the +30 agi each battle and you just nuke and tank all.
Have a good day too David
Didnt play this until the last few years and I absolutely loved it. I liked Esuna Busy.
The next time i play this game i'm either picking Valsu and Esuna as the main character.
Also have you played the sequel Mystic Ark.
I have, but I didn't like it as much
I settled on Lux back when it came out because he was the only character not to get one shotted early on.
As your main character :
Lux Wilme Esuna Olvan Valsus Lejes Kamil
Only Kamil really sucks and Lejes is pretty fragile
As partners
Lejes Valsu Lux Olvan Esuna Wilme Kamil
Olvan has two bonus dungeons if you take him as partner too if you want to get side quests.
Dude, you used all of the songs that have the characters' names when discussing the characters. That was a nice touch.
It's one of my favorites too. I always love using the robot as my main character or a sub character
I can honestly say that I tried this one without save states. Its rough...
I did too. Brutal waiting on that intro screen to play out 10000 times in a row...
5:36 :
“I mean, with 4 melee fighters duking it out for supremacy, and Lejes in the toilet with no healing whatsoever “
I fkin LOLD !
i had to replay this part so many times to make sure i quoted you right, that it got to the point that i pictured the other characters gathered around laughing like high class people with top hats partying and Lejes taking a spicy dump or whatever wishing he had healing to make his fiery endeavor a little more bearable.
Complete start to finish run with each character? Bruh, you’re a legend. I’ve probably started and stopped this game seven times without finding more than 2-3 runes. Brutal game. Hats off, sir.
I really like the graphics in this game. Nice video!!
Thank you baby doll!
I rented this game back in the day but struggled after I lost my runes (couldn't get them back).Played Alien with Robot. I actually like the game in spite being hard.
I've never heard of this game, but after watching this I'm gonna give it a go!
I chose Lux on my first playthrough and now I'm happy I chose a strong character for multiple situations.
I did Kamil on the snes cart we own and.... well... I had no idea I was making it harder for myself really.
David, have you tried playing a translated rom of ELNARD, the easier Japanese version of 7th Saga?
7th can be easy if you master the RNG/reload at level-up
Lejes had great evasion too, but when he got hit, he was done for.
David i assume Esuna is your favorite but who was your choice the first time you played? It was Kamil for me.
Lol, Esuna. I always went for the girls when I was growing up. To this day I only play Chun-Li in street fighter
Speed is very important in this game, if your speed is lower than the enemies, they'll almost never miss but you will constantly and vice versa.
I used #1 and #2 on my successful play through of the game. They do make a badass team and once you’ve got the Runes you’re very powerful this way.
Valsu is so broken once he learns elixer. I usually solo as Esuna until I get into the 40s then I get Valsu or Lux as my partner.
But that Lux tune up glitch tho. His fists become death.
Hey David do you have an advice video how to play this game?
It's one game that I always wanted a beat since debut.
1. Lejes (Demon Boi)
2. Esuna
3. Wilme
4. Olvan
5. Valsu (Just an Anime MC with Elixer)
6. Lux
7. Kamil
What's the successor?

I'd swap out Kamil for Lejes, but otherwise I agree with the list.
Kamil's do-it-all approach in a game with such tight difficulty is actually a disadvantage. He always needs a partner to buoy him late-game. Meanwhile, my first solo run was casually done with Lejes. The terrible defense only bothered me early on against enemies like Pison.
Lux was my favorite I love the robot dude
Physical attacks > Magic attacks
Esuna starts off strong and there's DEFINITELY an argument to be made that she's the best to start with, but she starts to fall off steadily as you transition into midgame and then falls further in the endgame.
I've also played this game many, many times since childhood. My go to team is Olvan and Valsu or Wilme and Valsu.
Lejes is my favorite and I know he's bad but I have to put him above Olvan, that speed stat makes a big difference.
Great video. One question though, what you mean by buffing, you said that word various time? Thank you.
Increasing stats is a buff, decreasing stats is a debuff
