I've seen her live, in Her Majesty’s Theatre, where the sound and technical conditions are the right ones for such a musical. And they where great! This performance at Covent Garden doesn't show they're true talent. They're incredible!
My dream is to sing this perfectly in a broadway show. I really liked the perfomance of both, and as a portuguese I am proud of Sofia, hope have the chance to see her and sing with her. Love it, thank you for sharing the gift God gave you and working it :)
Marcus' performance was breathtakingly phenomenal when I saw him! AND I AM VERY VERY VERY JUDGEMENTAL when it come to the Phantom! Marcus is one of my most favorite Phantoms! Lovely performance from these two here!
I don't think Marcus's voice was as good as it could be here, but it was still much better than lots of Phantoms who have played the part. I loved Sofia's high notes, they seemed more natural than the lower notes. Her C6s and E6s were absolutely beautiful. Sierra Boggess actually went slightly off-key in the vocalisations in the title song in the 25th Anniversary, but Sofia didn't at all.
Sofia got screwed! I'm still shocked they booted her out for a few weeks just so SB could be Christine in the 25th anniversary. Just awful. :( And she's a much better-trained soprano!
Alexandra Burris Sierra has never performed the role at her Majesty’s Theatre, only at the Royal Albert Hall. The show still would have been going on as normal whilst the 3(?) performances for the anniversary took place in a completely different venue, so Sierra didn’t “steal” anything from Sofia at all.
@@melissam597The anniversary was in London so I guessed it would have been nice to get a girl that have performed there before but I liked her and did a good pair with Ramin so it is good for me. What I think it's unfair is that she was in every single anniversary, 25th in Brodway too, and offered the french musical for the 30th in France and also sang during the anniversary in London when Celinde Schoenmaker was playing her, that was already too much of her having lots of amazing Christines (especially in somewhere like France that also has it's own musical theatre world)
I was lucky enough to see this in Covent Garden ! Seriously spine tingling stuff. Really took my breath away and made my heart race ! Sofia is an incredible talent and Marcus Lovett - well he is pure genius !
To all of you who state that Sierra and Ramin did this song better at Royal Albert Hall: The title song was recorded, they lip synched it and that's what the Christine and the Phantom always do whether it's on Broadway or on West End, the title song is always recorded. This performance however is a live performance so you can't say that Sierra and Ramin did it better until we've heard a live performance by them. Sofia and Marcus did a fabulous job
Beatriz Letras Maybe it's cause it's the first Christine and Erik you saw. In my opinion, they are both my least favourite and my favourite Christine is Gina beck and my favourite Erik's are JOJ, Ramin Karimloo and Peter Joeback.
Yeah, it is. They use body doubles for much of the performance while the regular actors get into place to enter on the boat and the song is pre-recorded for them to do what they need to without worrying about singing, and I think also out of concern for the Christine actresses having to do that vocalizing at the end multiple times each week.
I went and saw him in person and was afraid of the same thing! But it wasn't overdone at all. I don't know if he used a lot less when I saw him or if it was just less obvious, but it was one of the best performances I have seen and he sounded a LOT different!
She has definitely a great voice but it sure doesn't fit this song. Her low tones are weird, but her high notes are perfect as you can see on other vids.
I think her voice is actually a bit too high for the role (which is impressive!) The role of Christine actually goes waaaay too low for a coloratura soprano, which is ironic considering that that's what she's supposed to be. ^^
People don't realise the high notes are the pre recorded parts of this song, they only sing them on their first and last performances and then live performances they sometimes sing it. 25th anniversary wasn't pre recorded it was a special live performance
I'm fairly sure that this one was live though, I'm not 100% but I know that some times it's recorded whilst other times it isn't, but usually you can tell when the notes are pre-recorded in events like these (it's painfully clear with Emmi Christensson at the Oliviers as there is some sort of echo as if she is singing over the pre-recorded notes). And if any Christine would sing the notes live, Sofia Escobar could. Also, I think the 25th anniversary was pre-recorded throughout the entire thing, not sure but I've seen people talking about how Sierra didn't want to risk not making it.
The backing music is far too loud. Marcus is a handsome man and that made the Phantom's makeup enhance his bone structure. Listening to the audience I too was getting excited to hear them sing. Oh dear, poor Marcus, what went wrong? Still, I will not say anything bad about anyone who is the Phantom, after all they have to be good enough to be playing the role.
From a guy who saw her singing this music live at Her Majesty's Theatre, it was a magic moment. This video don't make justice to her at all, the sound is awful and believe me her voice is brilliant. Parabéns Sofia!
+Merthurmad first off this is the Olivier awards show, not a standard performance. So they aren't using their usual mics. Secondly, his makeup looks just as it does every night he goes on, it looks great. Don't ask stupid questions.
David Alderman First off I have seen the live production and that is NOT how the mike is worn. Secondly I didn't mean his facial makeup I just meat that the makeup artist is the one who attaches their mikes and should have known not to attach it above the wig. Thirdly I work in the Theatre and I know all about the mikes and that they dont use their usual mikes for an awards show like this, its still no excuse not to attach it in the proper place.
+Merthurmad Well it sounds like you should know that you CANNOT attach that kind of mic how it is usually worn. Very cool how you've seen the show, I've seen it 5 times. This is a live outdoor event and the mics just happen to be a different kind. Have you seen the 25th anniversary concert where the Phantom has two mics, one in its proper place and the other like shown here? Perhaps they have to make quick mic changes to other actors performing in different shows?
He seems to be a return to the thin reedy Michael Crawford kind of Phantom. It emphasizes the character's sickliness and paleness from living in a basement for years and years. I'm more used to the big, lush, blossoming voices of John Owen Jones and Ramin Karimloo. The acoustics in this venue are really really bad, and make them sound worse than they are in a proper theatre.
I saw Marcus performing live at the Her Majesty's Theatre and, if he is incredibly awful in this video, at the theater, he did not sing AT ALL like that. I do not know what happened to him on this video... He was much better to see at the theater.
I don't think she's that good for the role of Christine. It sounds like she's struggling to reach the notes and the phantom is putting on too much vibrato. However, this is my personal opinion so other people opinions may differ.
There are not a word to describe her voice... What a Portuguese proud! Continua assim Sofia!!!
I've seen her live, in Her Majesty’s Theatre, where the sound and technical conditions are the right ones for such a musical. And they where great! This performance at Covent Garden doesn't show they're true talent. They're incredible!
Obrigado, Sofia pelo orgulho que eu tenho em ver nos palcos do West End uma portuguesa com um talento como o seu!!!
My dream is to sing this perfectly in a broadway show. I really liked the perfomance of both, and as a portuguese I am proud of Sofia, hope have the chance to see her and sing with her. Love it, thank you for sharing the gift God gave you and working it :)
I've just been to watch this and i must admit i was absolutely impressed with all the cast but Sofia is exceeding good, Well done!

Prémio merecido. Vi o espetáculo completo no Her Majestic à 2 anos com a Sofia Escobar e foi fántástico.
I was lucky enough to see this in Covent Garden ! Seriously spine tingling stuff. Really took my breath away and made my heart race ! Sofia is an incredible talent and Marcus Lovett - well he is pure genius !

Really?
@@FEDEL89 yes
My all time favourite Phantom, just adore him completely.
that was so amazing I love the phantom the most
I love Sofia Escobar
I saw her in her majesty's theatre, and they were all amazing really
love it lovett, wonderful amazing, full of passion from both.
Amazing as always !
Proud of our Sofia
Sofia is the best Christine by far.
+Katie paterson emmy rossum is my favorite. Also gerard was my favourite erik.

Have mercy on their singing
I think this performance is great!!!! Love them both

I only like her high notes
sofia is amazing...
Are u kidding me??? This is just amazingly good!!!
I went to see this just yesterday.
Te amo Sofia, ❤️👏👏👏👏👏

killed. absolutely killed.
She has definitely a great voice but it sure doesn't fit this song. Her low tones are weird, but her high notes are perfect as you can see on other vids.
Yeah her high notes are absolutely STELLAR but her lower notes you tell she's not comfortable in that register :/ her Think Of Me cadenza is amazing
I think her voice is actually a bit too high for the role (which is impressive!) The role of Christine actually goes waaaay too low for a coloratura soprano, which is ironic considering that that's what she's supposed to be. ^^
@@adifferentkindofhuman3786 Yeah I loved her ToM cadenza! :)
@@athenavictoria9731 Yeah!! Such a weird, difficult role in terms of the vocal dynamics. BEAUTIFUL music, but bloody impossible to sing! ^^
I think Sofia Escobar is the best Christine from The Phantom of the Opera!

Yes it was pre recorded
Maravilhoso! Bravíssimo 💞
sofia is very good♥♥♥
I'm doing a musical with a cast productions here in Fatima and in fact it is a cabtora of exelencia is an honor to be with

The Phantom25 was NOT pre recorded on the title song! Although it was Katie Hall walking with Ramin for the first half Sierra was singing backstage.
Sarah Destler lmao yes it was
yes it was pre recorded
Yes it was an it wasn't Ramin
It was pre recorded and it wasn't Ramin with Katie Hall
You should have win :( POTO is the best musical of all time
From a guy who saw her singing this music live at Her Majesty's Theatre, it was a magic moment. This video don't make justice to her at all, the sound is awful and believe me her voice is brilliant. Parabéns Sofia!
E portuguesa sofia escobar
Oh it was.
Sorry, but I think that Marcus isn't the 'frightening' Phantom which he should be at this point of the story...
noossa
Is the phantom male or female ?
Josh Turner male
?
Who on earth did the guys makeup? That microphone is supposed to be hidden UNDER the back of his hair not over it like that?
+Merthurmad first off this is the Olivier awards show, not a standard performance. So they aren't using their usual mics. Secondly, his makeup looks just as it does every night he goes on, it looks great. Don't ask stupid questions.

I'm not a big fan of Sofia's voice or Marcus's but I like the choreography
the mask doesnt fit him n the singing is quite weird...
They should have won...:(

John Owen Jones, Earl Carpenter and Matt Camelle (may be I haven't spelt his name correctly), are fabulous
classic brits 2012.. thats all.
jonasmaneis1966
There's no way the title song was pre-recorded for the 25th anniversary
Sofia was good, but I did not like Marcus. His voice was weak
is that even Marcus?.... that sounds nothing like him
Oh, god, those microphone head sets drive me nuts. They're so fuckin' distracting. Seriously, it's like a Brittney Spears concert device.
I'd prefer Anna O'Byrne...
Hannah K Was that really necessary? People can like non-Sierra Christines more than Sierra
Lucy Wallis Sierra?
Please don't. They both.... need some work...
+itsjustally what do you understand honey?
Why is he falsettoing every note? Lol. It sounds awful.

Omg, I started laughing when he started singing. I feel bad, lol
Very Michael Crawford sounding (but his was way better)
I prefer Ramin Karimloo and Sierra Boggess version
dont care for her voice as the phantom of the opera....was not impressed
Sofia is slaughtering the song... He doesn't help the case either. This is disappointing!!
Oh god, they're both awful!! Why are they playing two of the best characters in history
Ella bien, el horrible, juntos 👎🏼 les ha venido grande el tema.
I love Sofia but Phantom.. He is too weak and the pitch are not accurate sometimes
Don't like this Phantom at all. Sofia is very good but Marcus...well, not the best voice for this part.
I don't care for the Marcus Lovett, his voice is a bit too high pitched for my taste, no offense.
Don't like this at all compared to ramin karimloo & sierra boggess performances... They've set the bar high!
Marcus voice isn't the best there's been in London as is Sofia but the act good
Why so much falsetto with him! Egh
I have seen so much better. Too much vibrato!!!!!! Sounds like they are sitting on a vibrating bed.
Merci je sais mais c nul quand même archives nul même
