Who could control most of Europe due to Europe being in shambles after WW2 and all of that, who could create and detonate the biggest nuclear bomb, who could go to the space and the moon first, who had a more stronger economy and military, etc. There was a lot of spying, civil wars in different countries like China between the Communists and the Nationalists. The Communists won and so the Nationalists fled to the island of Taiwan. But that is for another time. The U.S felling threatened by the Soviets growing influence in Europe founded NATO or the Northern Atlantic Treaty Organization to help resist the growing influence growing in the West. Between the U.S, France, Great Britain, Canada, Norway, Netherlands, Belgium, Greece, and more. In response the Soviets founded the Warsaw Pack between them and their puppet states which are countries that act as a "puppet" to the greater country than controls them. Like Poland, East Germany, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Romania, and Bulgaria, and Albania. Many wars followed in the Cold War like the Korean War and the Vietnam War. There was a lot more stuff. There was a lot of scary confrontations between the two like what you started out with, but finally the Cold War finally ended after the Soviet Union collapsed back in 1991. Sorry for the long comment it took me a long ass time to write it.

The fact that the guy says "Could erupt at any moment" for literally all of the volcanos he mentioned tells me he knows nothing about Volcanology. Of all natural disasters that could happen, a volcanic eruption is one of the most easily foreseeable ones. We'd be able to sense activity weeks or even months before a major eruption. Rest assured, there is no imminent danger.

and there is a benefit to launching your nukes first if you think the enemy will launch them aswell,and that is to target missile silos of the enemy nukes
infact enemy nuclear missile silos and airbases with stealth bombers would be top priority in a nuclear war,with civilian structures last
this doesnt mean that ONE nuke per city could be dedicated for it,on average destroying a third of the city
