Very nice The ceviche de concha is oyster The seco de chivo is usually a little bet sweet The narajillas is mostly for juices or ice cream also for making secos . Enjoyed Ecuador 🇪🇨 👌
Woooooow this looks so nice. I am half Ecuadorian half German and food really was my way to connect to my culture (even though I don't live there). Thank you for showing all this delicious Ecuadorian food! I feel inspired hahahaha 😄. Enjoy your journey!!
Omg I get so happy when I see foreigners coming to my country, trying our food, experiencing our culture, I hope you had a great time in Quito, Ecuador 🇪🇨 I also wanted to mention that the reason why it has harder to find encebollado in Quito even though it's a super famous dish here is because the dish is originally from the cost and idk but some people (myself included) think it's prepered better at the cost, but I'm really really glad you like it, it's a strong and super tasty dish
I’ve been researching Quito and this is one of the best videos I’ve come across! I was especially excited to see that flaming locro de papa and giant empanada. Could you let us know what restaurant that was?
Just to clarify what 'SECO' means: In Ecuador, as a staple food tradition, we typically have two parts to our meal - the soup and the second course, which is essentially a stew made with various meats like pork, chicken, and more. During the early 20th century, there was an English presence in the coastal region of Ecuador where they were working. After finishing their soup course, they would ask for the 'second' course. The locals, attempting to mimic the name, adopted the term 'SECO' for this second course." PS: Naranjilla in Colombia is called LULO not Ludo. :) Your welcome.
Wow awesome food!!! I notice that the food are so similar to the other spanish infuence countries. Food is definitely a must to try most specially the huge empanada with cheese inside. It was nice to see rain there we are so much in need of rain here in california ans so happy to see rain on other parts of the world. The cathedral climb was scary im glad you both made it safe. Thank you so much for taking us along your journey and sharing all the fun things you do. God bless you!!!
Hope the rain comes your way soon! I feel like California has been needing rain for a while now :/ Thanks for following along, we feel honored to share our adventures with you!
I love the list you made (am going to steal that idea from you...I hope you don't mind) ☺ Everything looked so delicious....we're celebrating Thanksgiving here in Canada today and I'm so grateful for the food we'll have but it sure would be nice to eat something different...so I enjoyed your food tour a lot even though I couldn't actually taste it, Claire did a great job at describing it. Quito looks beautiful and the food looks delicious. I’ll make a note of the foods so I can try them :). I’m pretty sure there is an Ecuadorian restaurant near me.
This type of channel is very instructive and well-thought-of in terms of video production. I definitely learned a lot in this experience and thanks for sharing this type of content with RUclips.
The church you were in is the National Basilica. The Cathedral is on the main square. The tower at the basilica is the Condor Tower. I wasn’t interested in climbing that high.😂 I ❤️ encebollado!!
Empanada de viento is usually served with morocho. It is a sweet hot beverage made with milk, local corn named morocho, cinnamon, and raisins. Nowadays it is also served with hot cocoa or coffee... Nice dishes selection...
This video made me homesick! Great job, Chad and Claire! I hope you didn't try all those yummy dishes the same day! You definitely have a strong and daring tummy to take all that in! What a wonderful video!!

You should really try llapingacho with the also Famous Ecuadorian peanut sauce and mix it with all the flavor on the plate. The patty alone doesn’t do it justice. And I recommend Guatita another famous dish.
Such an incredible video; thank you for showing the beauty of my hometown! The humongous empanada was a great surprise :) I'm a student at Harvard right now, but I'm going back to visit my family in less than 2 weeks for the first time in almost six years so I can't wait!!!
Wow, I finally caught up to you. I came across your vlog a few weeks back when looking for places to visit along the California central coast. There were several such vlogs, but most lacked the personality and joy of yours. So I went back to the start of your journey, where I thought "holy smokes, fresh out of college, just married - you guys are nuts!". But danged if you didn't make it work. And your wonder at the world made me so happy. I was just a little sad that my viewing was behind you, because I kept wanting to say, "Hey, I lived there, you should see this or that (or eat at this place)". So now I'm caught up and can put my two cents in. First, I assume you know about another adventuresome travel vlogger who recently converted an SUV, Eva zu Beck - if not, I highly recommend her channel. Second, when you come to Korea, let me know. It's my second country, I speak the language, have lived and visited there many times over the past 50 years, my wife is from there, and I'm technically a dual citizen - so if I happen to be there when you visit, we must get together, but even if not (we live in Altadena, California), I can advise you and introduce you to people. For example, there's a certain guesthouse in 전주 old town that you must stay at - be prepared for long stories that may have some elements of truth.........
We definitely had some fights along the way, but we think our year in the van made us a much better team. We are excited to hear your two cents on all of our future videos! :) We'll have to check out her channel as well! @@ChadandClaire Of course - we've been married since '74, and fights are part of the journey. Beautiful video, great food choices! Ecuador has a very diverse cuisine, from tropical and coastal foods to Andean foods. Naranjilla is also one of the ingredients used in Seco de Chivo, great in savoury and sweet dishes and juices, but I never recommend it as a fruit on its own. Good video. Ecuadorian gastronomy is NOT a fusion of Peruvian and Colombian, it is it’s own! It’s logic to find similar products, hence some ingredients may overlap in the boarders but that’s it. You can’t have a cangrejada, tigrillo, bolón, fritada (amongst many others) in those countries for example, you can only get them in Ecuador, also some ecuadorian dishes are popular in the neighbor countries’ only in the peripheries cities such as encocado that belongs to Ecuador. Also concha negra is not clam, it’s different. 😊
I see that Chad has an Osprey backpack, which one is it? And do you like it? I’m looking into getting one but they have so many different styles to choose from, I dunno which one to get.
Hey Sapphire!! I do like my bag, but the only thing I wish I had was a better spot for my laptop. I believe the osprey I have is an older model because I bought it at a used local outdoor gear shop a few years back. I have linked a very similar version on our website here: chadandclaire.com/faq/gear Hope this helps!
NOO that seco de chivo it’s not the way that it supous to be 😢😅 it is really good when you go to the correct restaurant not everybody know how to do it yummy 😋👌
I hate to be that guy, but that was not a clam ceviche (ceviche de concha), and we, coastals, do not eat any seafood with popcorn. That's highlanders heresy.
jajajajajaja eating encebollado at night like we do in Guayaquil, could you get more Ecuadorian? I certainly doubt it. Encebollado is a breakfast dish after a heavy night out for 'costeños' and it's hard to get one during night time mostly in the highlands. If you guys ever venture into the coast, here's a list of dishes you MUST try. 1. Real encebollado. 2. Guatita. 3. Cazuela. 4. Viche. 5. Bolon. 6. Encocado. 7. Caldo de Manguera. 8. Caldo de Bolas. 9. Seco de Chivo. 10. Tigrillo. 11. Cangrejos. 12. Ostras. And if you're still in the highlands go to the 'Mercados' and try different 'Caldos' those are highland delicacies, yahuarlocro, caldo de 31 and some others.
I was so scared at Bishop Castle!! My legs were shaking on that unsteady bridge
Viento means wind, but the empanada is called that because it is inflated and full of air!
The encebollado is a much more common dish in the coastal area of Ecuador, although it is a national dish since it is also made in Quito.

jajajajajaja eating encebollado at night like we do in Guayaquil, could you get more Ecuadorian? I certainly doubt it. Encebollado is a breakfast dish after a heavy night out for 'costeños' and it's hard to get one during night time mostly in the highlands. If you guys ever venture into the coast, here's a list of dishes you MUST try.
1. Real encebollado. 2. Guatita. 3. Cazuela. 4. Viche. 5. Bolon. 6. Encocado. 7. Caldo de Manguera. 8. Caldo de Bolas. 9. Seco de Chivo. 10. Tigrillo. 11. Cangrejos. 12. Ostras.
And if you're still in the highlands go to the 'Mercados' and try different 'Caldos' those are highland delicacies, yahuarlocro, caldo de 31 and some others.
