The Banksia pod or pine cone is such a familiar thing to to me! I probably take seeing them all the time for granted! I live in South Carolina, USA and we have Pine Trees Everywhere we look! They are PERFECT for repurposing! In the fall we collect them and season them with cinnamon or Just the pine scent and fill a basket or jar! They smell wonderful! In the winter they are perfect for feeding wild animals who may have harder times in the winter months! Brush them throughout with some peanut butter and then roll them in a plastic bin that’s filled with birdseed, nuts, corn, or whatever ur local wildlife loves! It’s actually a GREAT project to do with younger kids in the classroom or at home! Secure a ribbon ostring and then let the kiddos go have fun hanging them throughout the yard!
Oh wow that odd as far as I knew the banksia tree only grew natively in Australia. They are sanonamous with aus. Obviously pine comes are all over the world but am surprised to know you also have banksia tree. Thanks for watching
Hey toby, great video. Was learning heaps then it sped up and finished really quickly. Was hoping to see more of the vaccum and how you demold and clean up the blocks. Cheers
Righto apologies mate it was a mix between trying to focus on the mold making and my camera switching for no reason 😬😁 that said if I know people are interested I'm casting regularly so I will film the other end of it . Thanks for the feedback Pratty 👍👍
Pretty interesting stuff there. Always glad to see processes on new stuff. I just love smushing my blue lumps.🤣🤣🤣. I see your metric crap ton is very similar to our imperial crap ton as well. Just playing around with ya, hope you got a smile! 🙏blessed days ya'll Crawford out 🧙♂️
I really enjoyed this one! This is something i didnt know much about so its cool to see how you do it. The core flute trick is a great way for newbs to have a crack. Im guessing for more or less the cost of the resin and colour and about 5 cents worth of core flute you can have a crack at trying to make something neat and unique. Cool stuff
Yeah you're right Owen but you can buy liquid diamonds and colours from Gameco (tell them I sent ya 🤣) and use corflute and stick any old crap in there to try it out
Hinthis was stabilized timber so that process requires days in the oven at 100c but because these were already stabilized the just went in for probably 10 mins at like 60c.
13th hahahahaha Bugger I missed it lol Great stuff I would really like to try some casting and stabilising thanks for the lesson and sharing your experience👍👍 Rock on Toby 🤘🤘
Hi turn lots of stuff on the lathe but mainly into knife handles. I do sell blocks on my website though www.tobyfireandsteel.com and make stuff custom for other turners 👍
Did anyone claim that block yet? 🤔 Lol Ahhh read the comments it's only for Oz.. I'm a glutton for exotic woods an u guys down there have some of the best Burls in the world imo.. Take it easy man
Thanks mate 👍 for watching. Yeah I know there's loads of pinecones in the USA the thing I used in the video however was a banksia pod from a banksia tree. Thanks bud

🤣🤣
Yeah you're right Owen but you can buy liquid diamonds and colours from Gameco (tell them I sent ya 🤣) and use corflute and stick any old crap in there to try it out
Hey mate is that block still available?
How long do you put the wood in the oven for and on what temp. Thanks
Hinthis was stabilized timber so that process requires days in the oven at 100c but because these were already stabilized the just went in for probably 10 mins at like 60c.
Banksia grows in coastal areas in NSW and other states. If you are in the Nelson Bay area zip around to Fingal Bay and you’ll find them.
Good heads up thanks mate
