PAUL SIMON - GRACELAND
"Losing love is like a window in your heart, everybody sees you're blown apart, everybody sees the wind blow".
Truer words were never spoken.
The entire album is a masterpiece!
This is African and acknowledges the roots of American music. The Mississippi Delta was shining like a National/national guitar...
You picked a great song. In case you didn’t know, Graceland was the home of the King of Rock n Roll, Elvis Presley.
Years ago I played this song for my wife. It was the first time she had heard it. Afterwards I asked her what she thought? She said “losing love is like a window into your heart”. So I replied “there’s reason to believe that we will all be received at Graceland.”.
The next weekend we drove 1,000 Km to Memphis, Tennessee and saw the march of the Ducks, ate beans and rice while listening to B.B. King make love to Lucille, walked hand in hand along the banks of the mighty Mississippi as she flowed to the sea, had a Rendezvous with some BBQ pork, walked on a dark street by the sun and visited the holy shrine of Graceland where, praise be, we were all received. Best road trip of my life. :-)
Paul McCartney visited Graceland and left a guitar pick on Elvis' grave.
Fine example of music that lifts & mellows your spirit simultaneously
The album is one of my favourites. It's worth checking out his concert in South Africa with Ladysmith Black Mambazo.
The lyrics are amazing. National guitar. Wow. He's acknowledging the link between slavery, Africa and rock n roll. It's truly amazing. The whole album is a thank you and an apology
You are the only reactor I have heard doing Paul Simon. I love this. Thank you Graceland is fabulous
My favorite song of all time.
Fantastic album Paul, one of our Goats 🐐
Thank you Paul Simon for your genius ❣️😘😎✌️👍
Hi StrongLady, it's my first trip to your channel. Thanks for tackling Paul Simon... on the Mount Rushmore of greatest songwriters, it's him, Bob Dylan, Stevie Wonder and the Beatles. Hope to see you do more Paul Simon solo songs, like "Loves Me Like a Rock" or "Obvious Child"!
Thank for watching J D will be doing more of his songs
@@strongladyd3542 Paul Simon was extremely prolific...a few more from Paul’s solo career to recommend if you want to go down the rabbit hole:
Kodachrome
Mother and Child Reunion
Late in the Evening
Still Crazy After All These Years
50 Ways to Leave Your Lover
Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard
Diamonds on the Souls of Her Shoes
You Can Call Me Al
Slip Slidin’ Away
Something So Right
Have a Good Time
Father and Daughter
The Only Living Boy in New York (technically a Simon & Garfunkel song but he wrote it about Art Garfunkel while he was away shooting a film. That is what the song is about and it is Beautiful)
And many more! And all of these songs are so good the could be released as singles and top the charts. I agree with the other commenter, he is on the Mount Rushmore of songwriters along with Dylan and Lennon/McCartney. I would add Tom Waits to that list too but he is more of an acquired taste and less “mainstream”
Yes yes
This is also a SOUTH AFRICAN BACKING PAUL BY THE NAME OF STIMELA
He played with Hugh Masekela and Lady Smith Black Mambosa.
Graceland is the shrine of Americana
To me, Paul Simon is a greater pop/folk singer/songwriter than almost all of his peers, including Bob Dylan, James Taylor and even maybe Gordon Lightfoot. The only one who comes close is Joni Mitchell, but even she stopped making new music years before he did. I think he’s as good as Paul McCartney.
Anyway, it’s not a race or a competition. His music has brought me so much joy over the years.
Agree on all, except the last--Simon is far ahead of McCartney.

We could probably go back and forth on that, because I grew up on the Beatles. I will say that Simon’s latest efforts are far more interesting than McCartney’s.
React to Rush!!!
Hey. This fool thinks Paul Simon has a good voice. We can all rest a little easier.
