    This actually is the best explanation for metatarsal pads I've ever seen! The bone model, insole drawing and detailed explanation really got the point across, and I finally got my metatarsal pads to work! Thank you so much!

    What an awesome tutorial! I have been going to a podiatrist for 5 weeks. I got am injection of cortisone, was told to take over the counter anti- inflammatory (400mg of ibuprofren 2xs aday). I have been in so much pain. This video gave me the exact application and the most most effective advice on placement. My doc never told me about orthopedic foot inserts or pads to use for my condition. Thank you so much!

    Barbara, AM foot pain (and mentioning heel spurs) is a sure sign of plantar fasciitis. The spurs are not the cause of the pain but a result of too much tension in the fascia.
    Some things that helped me:
    1.. Sneakers w/ arch support. I prefer minimalist shoes, but when you've got PF your fascia just needs a break from being under tension all the time
    3. Stretch your calves 1x per hour or more
    4. Ice massage over a frozen bottle of water
    5. Sleep in a night splint

    Re: plantar fascia pain, perspectives differ on both problem and solution.
    The plantar nerve can be inflamed. It goes from deep in the back of the calf, to the inner ankle, to the bottom of the foot. Before stepping out of bed, warm up with 20 ankle circles each direction. Use met pads in minimal shoes (see Dr. Ray videos) and find a Certified Rolfer or Physical Therapist who does nerve work.

    Think of them as transitional. Shoe features e.g. toe-spring, heel wedge and toe taper shorten extensors, lengthen flexors and encourage collapse of the transverse arch - this is when you'll see weight bearing on the balls of toes 2-4. Met pads, combined with a transition to a level, foot shaped shoe, encourage weight transfer back to the tripod formed by the heel,pinky and big toe. Check out the links in the video info for more on shoe-created imbalances. Hope this helps.

    Wonderful video! I am a size 7 casual shoe womens, and I have a longer more narrow foot with long toes. I want to buy the Correct Toes metatarsal pads, I already have the toe spacers. What size should I get for the pads? I was thinking small, but would medium be more beneficial for my fat pad placement? How can I tell?

      The metatarsal pads (cushions) for high heels are meant to be a cushion under the ball of the foot. These metatarsal pads are for correcting the fallen transverse arch that can come from too high of heels and are meant to be placed behind the ball of the foot in non-heel shoes.

    • @Technesoma
      @Technesoma  5 лет назад +1

      Hi Lola, the answer is I don't know. How old is your daughter, and have you sought other care or a diagnosis for her feet? Any additional info would help me give you a better answer.

    • @lolahope8425
      @lolahope8425 5 лет назад +1

      Technesoma We have had her to podiatrists and they can’t figure out why her feet cramp on her. It’s mostly when she walks a little more than usual. She was diagnosed with flat feet and a bunion. She is 14 years old. They also had her take magnesium for a while but didn’t seem to help. I feel bad for her because when she goes out with her friends and they walk around the neighborhood or go to the corner store her feet cramp on her. Then she gets really embarrassed because they all have to stop and wait for the cramping to pass. This has been going on now for a couple of years now. She also has a hard time with certain shoes because she says they feel heavy on her feet. So she is really picky about shoes and will only wear sneakers. I’m trying to tell her to do foot exercises that therapy recommended but it’s like pulling teeth to get a teenager to do it. I also thank you so much for response. 😊 Any advice would be greatly appreciated!! 😊

    • @Technesoma
      @Technesoma  5 лет назад

      Hi Lola, If the podiatrists are coming up stumped, I encourage you to look into the ideas behind natural foot structure and function. Check these videos out: ruclips.net/video/wLLjwAZVkrY/видео.html , ruclips.net/video/p8ttNMNAX5k/видео.html and these: www.transcendbodywork.com/product/correct-toes/ it's a starting point into the info behind minimalism, restoring foot function and understanding how shoes undermine it. Many foot problems are actually shoe problems - The Correct Toes are over the counter options for correcting foot problems when matched with natural shoes (foot shaped, non- posture deforming.) The rehabilitative strengthening/coordinating process takes between 6 mo and 1 1/2 yrs for most. I don't diagnose, it out of my scope, but because these options are available to consumers, you can try it out on your own. Feet tend to let their owners know immediately if it feels like the right direction to go. Shoe brands to look into for sneakers: Altra, Lems, Topo, New balance Minimus, Merrell's barefoot offerings are a good place to start. Most of all trust what your daughters feet feel about it! Wishing her happy feet!

      Hiten Patel it can definitely help take some load off of the affected tissues- but it is very important to be aware of shoe design features that distort natural foot structures and increase load on the balls of the foot. Learn more about those here: ruclips.net/video/p8ttNMNAX5k/видео.html and be sure to ask who diagnosed your capsulitis if these are good options for your specific situation.

      @@marym6613 I'm unfamiliar with those that loop around toes. Sometimes Ball of foot cushions that are made to go under the ball, like for high heels can be marketed as metatarsal pads too. Please be sure you are not trying to use a ball of foot cushion as a metatarsal pad. If in doubt trust what your foot tells you about it. If it doesn't like it, don't do it. : )

    • @marym6613

      Technesoma Yes I believe they are cushions for ball of your foot, so I wear it on the ball of my foot. It helps but not sure if my foot will eventually always need it in the long run. I have a Dr. Scholls foot cushion that goes under the ball. I’ve been using it, but my pain is on the ball itself so I feel like it doesn’t help. I’m sorry to bother you so much.

      Sharryn McNeil absolutely. But remember you are asking your nervous system, soft tissues and bones to adapt to a new length and space relationship. Listen to your feet when they say stop and expect 6 weeks+ before your connective tissue adapts to the new structure and length you are asking of it. (Take a break, until you feel recovered, before using again!)

      This isn't advised if you're trying to actually regain strength and flexibility in your feet. Arch supports don't allow the same stregth-building that flat footwear with wide toe-boxes do. Read more here.. www.correcttoes.com/foot-help/metatarsal-pads/

    Technesoma question please. i have flat feet. trying to strengthen arches.
    -any danger that these met pads will provide artificial arch support, thereby causing arch to further weaken?
    thanks

    • @Technesoma
      @Technesoma  9 лет назад +2

      PurCitron great question! When metatarsal pads are used as a tool in natural foot rehabilitation, an essential aspect is great toe alignment. Metatarsal pads are used as part of the strengthening workout with Correct Toes in flat, flexible shoes: widest at the tips of the toes rather than the ball, they help the nervous system find the natural support of the medial arch through integrity and alignment of the ends of the arch rather than lifting it from the middle. See this video for more info: ruclips.net/video/wLLjwAZVkrY/видео.html and this webpage: www.transcendbodywork.com/product/correct-toes/ . For most folks, all the components of foot rehab are intended for temporary use (except foot shaped shoes - use these for life), they hold space while you strengthen within it, then when you can hold the space on your own, feet start to let their owner/operator know that they'd prefer the open space in the shoe to choose to use as needed, rather than having products continue to boss them around. Only a small percentage of people that had more severe pathologies choose to use ongoing management of their condition through continual use of these products. For most, once the great toe and medial arch are brought online, the transverse arch can just enjoy the ride. Hope this helps.

    • @fantasypolice
      @fantasypolice 9 лет назад +3

      PurCitron For those of you confused by the doctor's answer: he is advising that you go ahead and use the metatarsal pads along with their "Correct Toes" product. In their opinion, it's better at correcting your foot problems rather than supporting an unhealthy foot with an arch support. I never tried their products or the metatarsal pads, I will however do the stretches that were recommended in this video. I live in China for work, so it's hard for me to find equivalent products. I have begun using my custom orthodics I purchased in America in my athletic shoes and that has helped with my capsulitis. From doing research it is to my understanding that everyone's foot condition is different due to anatomy, footwear and activity level. Hopefully there are more proactive videos like this one that try to fix foot problems as opposed to putting a bandaid over it.

    Are there some neuromas that will not go away without surgery? I’m so tired of living like this. Three doctors and all had different solutions. Three years later and not better.

    • @Technesoma
      @Technesoma  4 года назад

      Once the nerve has grown/thickened due to excessive pressures and forces, they typically don't go away without surgery (which has it's own issues/risks). Steps can be taken to take the pressure off the nerve, such as wearing foot-shaped shoes (they allow toes to spread out widest at the tips and "zero-drop": heel, ball of foot, and toe tips all on the same level plane) check out correcttoes.com to learn more.

    • @littleminna
      @littleminna 6 лет назад

      Technesoma Hmmm, ok well that means the inlay sole should also fit in all shoes... they don't always. Anyways, I've already got an orthotic inlay sole from the foot specialist but it's not helping much after 2 years. I guess having the orthotic inlay sole plus the pad would be too much. It's either one or the other I suppose?

    • @Technesoma
      @Technesoma  6 лет назад +1

      Yes the insole would need to fit in the different shoes to transfer them. Orthotics are a crutch for most people. If you don't put down the crutches after the injured tissue has healed it will remain atrophied, weak and dysfunctional. I highly suggest you check out the Correct Toes Channel ruclips.net/channel/UCgtX7eei9MQfEWO8ZBCjKVg and do some research into your own condition and if it would be appropriate for you to transition to "Natural Foot' function. If what you're doing isn't helping, it's time to question it. Wishing you happy feet!

    Cortisone shots weaken the connective tissue and reduce longterm healing. I suggest my patients steer away from them until they have exhausted every possible holistic alternative, including all the minimal shoe recommendations, exercise and lifestyle changes, and of course holistic bodywork. Cortisone injections are a last resort, like surgery, in my opinion. (Though, in some cases, they do help a lot - they just shouldn't be viewed as a magic bullet.)
