I saw this theatrically in 1980 when I was 13 because I was obsessed with John Belushi. It exposed me to a genre of music and artists that I never knew existed, Ray Charles, James Brown, Aretha Franklin, Cab Calloway and John Lee Hooker. It’s a great film.👍
You really need to see it in the context of the movie. For it to work. So much good and silly. It’s a movie. Good, silly, stupid and profound. And some damn good music.
Oh man, The Blues Brothers is a GREAT movie! It has all the charisma and comedy of Akroyd and Belushi, a ton of guest stars and cameos, and is totally filled with GREAT music. Aretha Franklin doing "Think" is one of the best! It also has one of the greatest car chase scenes.
OK you’re not in the movies. But you’re into Music. This movie has some legends in it performing. James Brown, Cab Calloway, Aretha Franklin, John Lee Hooker,, and more including the musicians you watched on this clip. Dan Aykroyd had a real passion for blues music. His goal in making this movie was to try to keep blues music alive. This Movie was a huge hit, and introduced a lot Of younger people to the blues. You got to respect that.
As a fan of blues and soul music you MUST see this movie, Justin. It's not a "modern" movie by any stretch, but it's still hilarious in enough places that you'll really enjoy it. It sort of channels the same kind of humor as Spinal Tap.
Good movie, great blues throughout, decent story line and Canadian content Dan Aykroyd from Ottawa and Toronto's very own John Candy. Holds up pretty nicely. Cheers Justin
This band includes absolute musical legends. Do a little research on each of them. You've heard Steve Cropper & Duck Dunne on every brilliant Blues and R&B record since the 60s. Tom Bones Malone, Matt Guitar Murphy & Blue Lou Marini as well. The movie was hysterical but the music is brilliant.
Reaction to movies might be a thing for you because you have seen so few of them. Most people usually cut to the more significant reactions of the movie to cut the video down to 20 minutes. There are movies of bands like the Beatles or The Who. The Last Waltz come to mind. It is about the last concert of The Band in the 1970s. You can go on and on.
OK. so it must have been something they composed just for the movie, but Ray is making alot of the same calls that Tina was making, so I thought maybe "Land of 1000 Dances" was some standard... Also, didn't read the comments yet, but just in case the Canadians are late to the party, Dan Aykroyd is Canadian lol.
Suggest watching both The Blues Brothers and Blues Brothers 2000. Well maybe not, you don't seem to be enjoying yourself sadly. RIP Ray Charles. RIP John Belushi, miss your funny self. I am not a movie buff myself but the music and comedy in these movies make them great in my eyes. Oh well, guess we can't all have the same opinion.
First, the movie is amazing. Second, would've been better if the clip started where Ray shoots at the kid trying to shoplift a guitar. Third, you really should check out Aretha's performance too.

Awful movie. Definitely a must-see though (sorta like Animal House, from roughly the same period).
