- Since blocks were tracked in 1973-74, Victor Wembanyama joins Kevin Durant and LeBron James as the only teenagers in NBA History with 35+ points, 10+ rebounds and 2+ blocks in a game:
LeBron James on 11/10/2004 (38/10/3)
Kevin Durant on 4/16/2008 (42/13/2)
Victor Wembanyama on 11/2/2023 (38/10/2)
With 38 points tonight, Victor Wembanyama has totaled 103 points in his first five games, joining David Robinson as the only rookies in San Antonio Spurs history to total 100 or more points over their first five games:
David Robinson - 115 points (1989)
Victor Wembanyama - 103 points (2023)
Willie Anderson - 96 points (1988)
Led by Victor Wembanyama’s 38 points and 10 rebounds, the San Antonio Spurs defeated the Phoenix Suns, 132-121. Zach Collins added 19 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists for the Spurs in the victory, while Devin Booker (31 points, 9 rebounds, 13 assists) and Kevin Durant (28 points, 6 rebounds) combined for 59 points for the Suns. You could tell Booker expected the Spurs to crumble when the Suns tied it up at 116 all. Wemby simply wouldn't allow it. Incredible stuff. What a player.

What impressed me more than the 38 points, was his mentality. The Suns were making a run in the 4th, making a come back and equalized. But Wemby stepped up and took over. That is a mindset of a winner. The pressure did not crumble him, instead made him better.

Finally a player who understands his length. Posting up smaller players and keeping the ball high. On defense he has good awareness and can cover the paint while simultaneously closing out to perimeter shots if need be. Its just insane watching this kid play.
tbh, i think not being in america during formative years was a big bonus for him. Almost everyone who learned to play here attempts to play like like a guard. I hope he fulfills his potential to be an elite big. Tired of seeing bigs camped out on the 3point line spacing the floor.

His teammates are starting to realize the craziness they can do each and every play thanks to his length. Just throw it to the stratosphere close to the basket and he will either dunk it, lay it up, come down with it or tip-pass it to someone. No one else can reach
Exactly!!
💯💯 Dudes just throwing lobs and post passes that would normally get that ass benched🤣🤣
@@DRIZZA23Facts. Lmao. They'd be getting traded outta there expeditiously
@@jeffreyotingo4513 He is the ultimate bailout 🤣🤣 The worry I have ...he only 19...what happens if he stays injury free and develops "man" strength... like to even wonder what he could be like at 25-34👀👀👀👀
Even though I’m a Phoenix fan I have to say that was a amazing performance, beat us 2 times in a row we could not stop him amazing player. GG San Antonio
I’m so glad he went to the spurs!!!!! Such a classy organization and coach. I hope he has a long healthy career with lots of championships. GO SPURS GO.
Gregg Popovich is the opposite of classy.
Mm-hm. I'm sure lots of personal experiences are backing up that opinion.
Regardless, Popovic can coach bigs. SA is one of the best places the kid could possibly have landed.
Not a spurs fan but he’s definitely in a good organization
Long time Bulls fan here and this kid is definitely giving me Jordan vibes... Different size, different game but that specialness is definitely there
ive been watching basket ball my whole life, and i never seen anything like that outside of wilt. he would just post up and they would throw it to him over the top, and there was nothing they could do all night. thats wild. this guy is going to be a problem for a lot of teams
He's doing to be a problem for every team lol
I'm too young to have watched Wilt, but was he this athletic? I don't think he had a shot like this either.
@@matthewrichey9390 Wilt was more athletic. Not as tall / long though and there were no 3 pointers back then so outside shot not emphasized. He did have a decent turnaround off glass though
@@matthewrichey9390 self reported 50 inch vert but probably closer to 45 500 lb max bench which is insane with his length and was a college track prodigy before he started basketball. and all this before the crazy performance enhancers and stuff we have today

That's inevitable if he stays healthy hopefully

THE HYPE WAS REAL ALL ALONG 🔥🔥🔥🔥
100% real! *I LOVE THIS KIDS GAME*
C’est ça mon gars !
Definitely!!! Been watching him for many years
Unlike Zion who was supposed to be the next LeBron or something.
He's got the "it" factor that you simply can't be a true superstar without. The last shot he took (free throw line jumper) was the one that stuck out to me. On the Suns broadcast, they mentioned that Pop was motioning them to take their time. Wemby took that shot and made it with 11 seconds on the shot clock, which is probably a little more time than I imagine Pop wanted them to shoot with, but it's a dagger shot that absolutely seals the game and crushes the Suns' already slim chance of a comeback. That's tangible killer instinct that guys like Kobe and Jordan played with. I don't know if he'll quite get to that level but it's a damn good start.
He's going to be the goat
He damn well could be without injuries
Dude is 15/19 FG in the Q4 in his 5 first games...
@@OhDuur😳
He is literally there like a feet or two. Rookie season, 38 points, 5th game. Gadamn he is amazing
I must say, that's pretty impressive stuff from a rookie. He seems very calm and collected. The fact that he didn't get a call at 4:10 is just crazy, the ref is standing RIGHT there looking at the foul. I mean even a rookie should get that call. The pull-up threes are nuts, and he can drive the lane too, wow.
that pissed me off like the fuck was she looking at?!
I’ve never seen anyone at 7’4 move so quick and gracefully like this dude WOW
Its like Tacko Fall, but instead of being a meme cause hes tall, he's actually fkin' good.
Wemby is scary for many years to come, score inside outside fastbreak putback any scoring possible from him. Defense in the paint in the perimeter just unbelievable talent from a 19 yer old.. stay healthy and dominate the league
Basketball gods. Please bless Wemby with health and many years of prime basketball greatness like LeBron has given us the last 2 decades.
This guy plays the game properly, to go along with his insane talent and mix of size and quickness. If he stays healthy he might just end up being the GOAT
Wemby is so special man he can play down low. Shoot the 3, hit the mid range, block shots, guards all positions. Run the floor with ease for fast break points. Impacts game by just being on the court, opponents are scared to drive so they settle for jump shots. He’s taking over.
He's clutch. All these games he's been hitting shots in the 4th quarter
He is passionate. I like the effort he gives.
This performance alone deserves a ROTY price.
Dude became KD in front of KD.
The student has become the master
Pump the brakes. Lol he had a great game tho
ANYBODY WITH A BRAIN TAKING WEMBY OVER KD AT THIS POINT IN LIFE,,NOT EVEN CLOSE @@iAmTakeNote
@@iAmTakeNotebro he bested KD twice, the suns were favorites and by the end of it the spurs looked like the favorites they might make playoffs
@@iAmTakeNote Yeah, his inside game and defense is way more advanced than KD already. Lol. KD ain't catching no lobs over Drew Eubanks.
I've been saying this. The kid will be a better offensive KD, but with Defense.

Congrats on getting your dream job , and many amazing Wemby performances to come !
@@issey1456 Thank you very much for the kind words Isabelle! It's been a rough couple years but I really feel like things are turning around for me. Congrats
and what would the dream job be ?

once he gets fed the ball consistently as the #1 option on this team he will dominate games like he did this one
I just hope Pop have couple more years left in him to nurture this phenomenal talent. Such a shame Wemby and Parker didn't get a chance to play together with the Spurs, that would have been an epic French connection.
I hope Pop stays 2 or 3 more seasons at the Spurs, he has a diamond with enormous talent in his hands, if he manages to work well he will create an unstoppable beast...
He signed a 5-year deal and I'm sure he will be there all 5... hell I won't be surprised if pop coach another 10 years if his health lets him. Coaching Wemby might have added some years to his life in general cause when you healthy physically and mentally the body will thank you later. This is good for coach pop especially after his wife passing away.
Pop ain’t going nowhere until he die his wife is gone he not trying to go home.
Kerr will takeover and sign Curry on a vet min in few years time..
Great seeing the spurs utilizing Wemby more. Can already see a new age of basketball with more mobile bigs coming.
We are lucky to witness history in the making and NBA basketball changing forever 🙌
😂
Wembanyama is gonna have that SHAQ effect where every team will look for players whose job is to specifically guard him.
Oh my, what are we witnessing 😮😮
As a proud European (🇬🇷), I am so happy for my French guys & girls out there. That’s a legend in the making!
That's a good point the French don't have much to be proud of hopefully this makes them feel better 😅

If you ever doubted him before go back and watch this game this dude is definitely legit
Imagine Wemby in the future in his prime…the future of basketball really is changing dramatically
He’s Duncan now I just need pop to find him a Parker and ginobli
Vassell and Keldon will do that. Collins and Sochan are playing well. I hope they get better as time goes on

Victor is both a given name and a surname. It is Latin in origin meaning winner or conqueror. Although not directly associated with a Biblical name, Victor is one of the earliest Christian names, borne (as Vittorio) by several saints and popes, symbolizing Christ's victory over sin and death.
So it's just a coincidence that his name is Victor and he's already WINNING games over Allstars like booker and KD like the definition says it mean victrious or conqueror.

He's definitely making The NBA All-stars list this🏀 year 🏀
He turns 20 in January. This guy is only going to get stronger and more comfortable out there in the NBA game. And he has the desire and work ethic to really become a legend. WEMBY!
He concentrates on his strengths, never overreaching, but rather methodically dismantling opponents by exploiting any weakness, like a high-energy, supercharged Tim Duncan. This makes him an ideal fit for the Spurs. I have no doubt that, barring injuries, he will secure a championship ring faster than anyone else in the modern era. He is a shoo-in for a first-ballot Hall of Fame nomination, earning him the moniker "Slender Man."
The way he moves off the ball at his size is incredible. Even moreso the fact that he can put the ball on the floor and dribble pull up! I really hope he stays healthy, cause the Spurs hit the jackpot of the decade so far with Wemby.
*century
One thing I love about Wemby is he speaks soft and humble but you can tell he a dawg. He wants the smoke regardless of who it is
Basketball gods, please let this kid have a healthy career 🙏🏾
I Think Wemby not being too heavy like Yao Will help. He needs to add muscle but he doesn’t have to become Giannis because that Will destroy his overall play.
