J Melo has been on for quite a few years. It's a product of NHK World, NHK being the government-owned, national, non-commercial broadcaster in Japan. All sorts of artists have been on, including Babymetal, Band-Maid, Nemophila, Gacharic Spin. The interviewer is May J, pop vocalist.
I'm grad you reacted to this! Thank you! What they say in this interview is the main reason why most English speaker think Asami`s Einglish has very thick accent. In my opinion, Her accent is not so bad for Japanese. You can see it when she speaks usual conversation, or when she sings slow quiet songs, of course it's not perfect though. The main reason why her accent sounds so thick when she sings LOVEBITES songs is the structure of their songs, which put English lyrics on Japanese-like melody (Japanese essence). English and Japanese language are totally different in both pronunciation and grammar. So It's very difficult to write songs in English lyrics for Japanese artist. Of course the genre they play is another reason. Heavy metal or Hard rock needs powerful voice and to sing(shout) very loud. Sometimes it's hard to catch the lyrics in those type of music, isn't it? I think Asami or Miho is doing a great job. They are always trying their best.
I agree with that. It isn't so much how she pronounces the words, but how the musical phrases and words match up. Sometimes you can hear how the accents of the music don't always come down at the same place where the words of the line would be accented if you were speaking the words without music behind them. So a first time listener has trouble picking out the words because it can throw you off in places and the rhythm doesn't always match the words being sung, you expect the line to end or continue when it doesn't. I have heard all their songs so many times to have memorized the majority of the lyrics and now I can hear her sing every single word clearly. You get used to the rhythm and phrases over time.
Always great to hear the info straight from their own mouths! Let me know your thoughts. Don't forget to Like and Subscribe! Check out the NEW Amazon links in the description!
One of my favorite interviews! An, Aha moment was Asami's explanation on lyrics. Because it also explains Miku's lyrics and others, AKA their use of English and Japanese to enable them to get the meaning across within the flow of the songs. Miku has said she has had Kanami alter the songs to accommodate her lyrics. As to Asami's sign off, she many others while in normal conversations would have an accent. When having time to formulate what they are going to say, No Accent! Last point - They were Gorgeous to the point of distracting, and Miyako Smiled!!!!
Always good to see a Miyako smile! I've thought pretty much the exact same for the reasons on their languages and how it flows, and also translates. Part of the reason I don't like putting English subtitles on the songs during a first listen at least. Thanks!
Awesome GMG!! 🤘🐺🤘Love this one, like u said so much info straight from them and they look so beautiful!! 😍 Maybe after the Japanese tour they just announced they will do an international one!! 🤘🐺🤘
This makes me miss Miho. I love Fami and am happy that she's in the band, but Miho has a lot of intangibles that make me adore her. She's so intelligent, is a living metal encyclopedia, had positive and realistic goals for the group, and had an old school style that reflected what she grew up listening to. Oh well, shit happens.
One of my most favorite interviews by them. It had been uploaded a while ago when I first saw it, but then it was soon taken down. I am glad you were able to react to it so more people can see this.
When Fate Gear recorded older Destrose/Fate Gear songs in English, Mina not only translated the lyrics but changed them almost entirely for this same reason.
That has been in my mind that some American reactors get hooked on Asami's accent. She some time sound with strange accent because the lyrics have to be divided at wrong syllables. For example, if there's a part "I'm gonna dance whole night through" but melody line doesn't allow her that way, she some times has to sing like "I'mgo nnada nce wholenight through". An episode I like is when Miho was playing in a small band, she was handing out papers of her gig at a concert of some other big band at Zepp Diver City Tokyo, she got kicked out, but as you all know, she conquered Zepp later. That is a beautiful success story.
Never judge a book by its cover. When I first introduce Lovebites to my circle of friends, they instantly ask "So your not listening to metal anymore?" And then I press play...."Yep, you can pick that jaw up from off the floor, now" 🐺
Your comment Immediately made me think of the Intro to Holy War @ Zepp, where the camera pans to all the young ladies, looking gorgeous and cute in their Goddess Gowns - and then Bom Bom Bom Bom Bom! That was my first Lovebites experience, and I was Hooked before they hit the last Bom.
@Alek Hidell I must say the ladies of Japan are incredible. Of course I worship Lovebites, also Fuki and Jill from Unlucky Morpheus. I'll always cherish Megadeth, so many memories. I was estatic seeing Fami hold up a magazine with Mustaine on the cover. That small moment seeing my two favourite bands on screen in some format...sheer bliss 🐺💀
I'm not into Love Bites so much, but I can't shake the feeling of it reminding me of Show-Ya from the 1980s, 1990s, etc. They even existed before X-Japan.
Not into Lovebites? Such a pity, you're missing out on some of the best musicianship you will ever here. They play so many different styles so surely there is at least one song or two that you can enjoy.
@@ChadTheDragonLord well, as someone who has 0 talent in the music department all I go by is: does it sounds good/how does it make me feel, etc. Their are lots of band/groups who have 1 or 2 songs I like, that doesn't make me a fan. That said, you are right, I don't know their whole catalog.
There are connections: Show-Ya and X Japan were acquainted from their very early days and went to each other's gigs. Midori of Lovebites took classes/seminars from Mikio Fujioka of Babymetal's Kami Band when she was at Musicians Institute and attended his funeral (as did many other musicians including Akane and Kanami of Band-Maid).
