My big and first mistake was selling my collection back in 1984! My even bigger and second mistake was starting again!! And the biggest and third mistake was trying to replicate that collection and buy new ones at the same time!!! But I love reading and collecting them, so more fool me!!!!
Great video Allan! BTW: Love seeing the Chamber of Chills 19 behind you. Speaking of which, I had a great time hanging out with Yaniv. Thanks for introducing us!
Great, I really thought you would have a lot in common.
Hey brother, yea, I work hard controlling emotions when comic buying. It’s so difficult because we are passionate creatures, but I always try to keep it in check with regards to comic spending.
Good point over paying for a book can hurt. I negotiate and walk away and then talk to others and go back and make the deal but most of my comics I buy are in person. And yes i am in chat their are times i guess you don't see me because you get caught up in the conversation in live shows that the chat is not seen. I watch a lot of your videos i am there sometimes hiding behind the bush LOL. Good show Mr. White Gloves Outta Here...
In 2021 I sold seven long boxes of silver and bronze age Marvel. I never thought I would ever sell them for the high prices I did. The boom was a once in a lifetime happenings. I bought most of the silver age keys I wanted, and paid off both cars off(first time my wife thought my comics were cool). Plus I still have a bit left over.
LIES
@@vincentharris110 Just because you paid thousands of dollars for the Ultimate Fallout #4, doesn’t mean you can call me a liar. If you listened to ETA Nick, you would have sold all your silver age marvel. I miss ETA Nick
All your points are spot on!
Great stuff here. Recently found your channel. Some of the best advice I've heard, and Pop Comics says the same is, just knowing the value of key issues you see a lot, like an ASM 300 will help. So if you are at a shop/LCS/Con, see their pricing on something like that, you can get a feel if everything else on the wall or in the bins is priced low/med/high.
Thank you appreciate your perspective and advice
As a collector, I haven't faced FOMO yet. I think it's mostly for the reason I can't afford such high priced books 😂
Great video with great advice. Thanks!!!!
Good data. Happens more than you know. Thank you for your content.
Good advice. Will try to keep it mind
My company as on strike and my Wife had pur baby. I sold Wonder Woman 1 and Sensation 1 and payed the Hospital and the Doctor. This happened in 1973 when values were different in cost and money value..I tell people buy what You like and not is hot.
It's not really losing money if you're a collector and just want it for your collection. If you're a reseller, yes. Speculative resellers have ruined the hobby.
We all only have limited funds so it can hurt your ability to collect when you overspend.
Even if you have no intent to resell no one likes seeing a similar golden age book sell for hundreds of dollars less than what they paid a few months before.
I’ve always been fomo proof but then again were talking the modern era 😮 but good stuff
This mistake cost comic collectors millions - (Buying into the CGC fad)
lol...true in some ways but false because grading is important (if it can be trusted) because it establishes a clear value for the comic. A third party deciding a grade is extremely important.
I bought a book yesterday high on my want list - I paid $100 and the book has a large chip on the cover - it is probably worth $100 WITHOUT the chip - now I own the book that I overpaid for and I will have to upgrade - so I basically wasted my money bc I didn’t wait for book in the condition I desire. (Looney Tunes 45)
Still a cool book.
I almost never buy without checking 2 local retail/online comic sites, ebay and 130point. I feel good about purchases now and save about 25% on each back issue.
Great...I only recently learned about 130point.
FOMO bit me hard on one book back in 2021. Still pissed at myself for that one.
Wow you have some awesome books on the back wall ……..Chamber of Chills #19 😊
Thank you kindly
Where do you come up with 75%? Modern overpriced high-print books? Sure, but the bronze age and older did not drop nearly that much.
Just from watching the price corrections of modern books.
When you say bid 70-80% fmp, is that including the bidding premium amd taxes, bidding premium alone or none?
Yes, that the total cost because FMV is based on total price. I am looking for bargains.
@@ComicCollectorGeek thanks for the clarification! Now if I can only be that disciplined 😂
im waiting for ff5 😂 i just need the movie to tank 😅
Based on history the movie will probably tank. But I'm hoping they'll finally get it right. Either way the price usually dips about 8-9 months after the movie comics out.
