Today is my day 1 of learning embroidery and this was the most helpful video I have seen about how to make an away knot. Thanks for such a clear and easy to follow video! :)
Trying a small embroidery project for the first time… pretty excited! Went thru RUclips and saved all the different stitches, so hopefully I don’t eff up too bad lol but, I was wondering… I’m guessing that’s a magnet thingy u put ur needle on while it’s not in use? How is it sticking to your canvas? Velcro, tape, etc? It’s hella nifty and I NEED ONE! Lol
Welcome to the wonderful world of needle and thread!! That is called a needle minder and they are invaluable. They have two magnets - one for the front of the project that usually includes a decoration, and one for the back of the project so that they stick together. If you do a search on Etsy for needle minders you will find so many wonderful ones to choose from. Thank you for the question!
Thank you so much. I can't get on with the pin stitch as it affects the stitch in my opinion making it look different from the rest. I would be confident of snipping my ends off now knowing they secured with the away knot and weaving back in going in the opposite direction. Wonderfully helpful. My backs are going to be so neat now. As my next project is the Zimmerman Coverlet (inspired by you to work it) have learnt this just in time.
You leave two centimetres ( or an inch ) of thread as a tail once you've pushed the needle through the first hole, then you start stitching while making sure the tail is getting tucked inside the stitches on the backside. No need for knots, no need for cutting the thread, no need for any extra steps. Bingo! Fast and easy and no, the stitches are not coming off, I can promise you that...

Really interesting! I've never seen this technique! Thank you for sharing! 😊
Thank-You! Great Refresher!
Amazing, thank you!
Thanks for the information...the ability to thread a needle and run the thread back thru under your stitching makes a lot of sense 🎃
Thanks for sharing I am absolutely going to give this method a try 😊
Thanks Caroline!!

OK, nice idea to leave a little tail to weave in later.
