I organized my former boyfriend and my papers more than 4 years ago when we still lived together. He (thankfully) kept the system which I learnt from you. I got a call 10ish months ago from him thanking me. His brand new apartment in London burned down. He managed to grab his laptop bag, Better Binder with docs and wallet and evacuated. His bedroom where documents were stored was burned down pretty bad. So, thank you, Alexandra for giving me the idea!!!
I would add college diplomas to the list. Our kids diplomas are scattered in frames around the house, which is probably the case in most people's homes. Great gift idea though, thank you.
organized4 that’s a good idea. I didn’t think of degrees/diplomas. I did think of any insurance policies anyone would need in a bind, like smne passed and u gotta find it to pay for the funeral etc. also investment info for the same reasons
I already have a binder similar to this. I would definitely add diploma, will etc. Im always looking forward to your organizing videos. I admire everything you do😘
Hello. So with my failing eyesight. I am really feeling the benefit of. Of having an easy. Organisation in the home I no longer have any stress about stuff It was quite. Slow to kick some counterproductive habits thanks to people like you you you change your mindset about. Clutter
All excellent ideas! I would add keep this bag in a fireproof safe that is UL rated, i.e. 1200°F for 1 hour! That way, when disaster strikes and no one is there to retrieve the bag, it still will be safe and protected!!!
I've been meaning to set up a similar system for my home. I've seen it called the I.C.E. Binder (In Case of Emergency). This is a great way to set it up! I love the bag, too. Thank you so much for sharing! Your channel has helped me and my family in so many ways. I love that you're posting again!
You are one of the first Personal Organizers I started to follow some years ago. I absolutly admire your work and the way you talk in your videos; so simple and straight to the point. Everything you share is really useful. You have a total fan in Argentina. Greetings!
I never knew they had just bags, this is amazing!! I have a Home Management Binder with all these papers already in it. This bag would make the perfect home for my binder. Thank you!!
I need to do this immediately. I’m seventy years old, and I’m concerned about my children being able to find important documents when I pass on. Thanks Alejandra🤗
How cute of your each and every thinking of our day-to-day living things, probably ideas are from your brain. Your explained and shown things are shadowy ideas also in our brain but you did it very clearly. I really fell in love with your channel. Really, informative and highly recommended. Thank you so much and best wishes ❤
I’ve been meaning to do this for a while. Thx for the encouragement Alejandra. “Shot Records” would be another great category, especially with a big family. 👍🏽
Wow! Really great information. I didn't know there are water & fire resistant bags. I sorted and reorganized files this past summer, but didn't even think about this. Thank you so much.
I've really missed your videos......the only thing I would add to that, or maybe I missed in your video, but medical records/prescriptions you take....but that would be great for evacuations in my area it would be for floods and or hurricanes. Thanks for your great ideas.
Thanks for posting new ones :) I miss seeing your new videos! Thank you SO SO MUCH for sharing the categories. It helped me a lot to organize my important documents :) God Bless you and your family!
Great to see you back Alejandra, I have missed your videos. Would you mind sharing your 'checklists/routines/to do list' binder some time, which you briefly showed in a previous office organisation video, but didn't go into detail about? Thanks
she mentioned these are only for documents that are permanent, so since taxes should only be kept for 7 years, I'm assuming that's why they aren't included.
Would you also keep copies of these documents in your normal filing binders/drawer as well as the originals in this portable organiser? Thank you for your great organising tips!
You need to have a tab for passwords. My dad works in banking and is constantly hearing stories at conferences about estate planning and family being incapable of accessing accounts owned by a deceased party.
So timely. Just today I went thru some of my bills and important correspondences with my Therapist, because my brain just shuts off when I try and do this by myself. :-(
Remember guys, no document is worth dying in a fire... (But this is still an excellent video, especially for situations where you would need to flee quickly but not like your life immediately depended on it, like floods or incoming severe weather.)
I would suggest adding school transcripts. Order two official copies of all your school transcripts (high school, college, post-grad) and keep them sealed. You never know when you quickly need an official copy.
While insurers don't require original policies, in an emergency you or family needs a list of your insurance coverages, company names, policy numbers, named insureds, phone/email/address for insurance company (direct contact for claims department is super, and contact info for your insurance agent(s) if applicable. Other info to list includes bank names/account numbers, credit card companies/account numbers, lienholders (like your house and car) and loan numbers.... you get the idea. You could do this from memory ultimately but the convenience of having it all summarized on a page or two could save so much time and hassle for you or family (my husband died one morning unexpectedly. Thank goodness I had all I needed to operate legally without him.
I should something like that for general documents... al my family related docs are in a smaller acordeon sturdy poly envelope. There we categorize by person and pet. For us they have our imp ids, passport, cards, prescriptions... for our kids their pasport, ids, ssn, vaccination records, birth certificate, baptism certificate and so. We keep it now in a drawer but it ised to be in a small fire/water proof safe we had that broke due to a fall.
She has great organization. However digging in files is not fun. I use Binder with clear protectors sheets . Table of contents in front. We have one each. Birth certificate copies, I.D copies passport etc Insurance Power of attorney, Bank acts., Power of Attorney Wills and some items regarding our adult children. The instructions for my funeral as well.
Not sure if insurance companies still require it, but I might include pictures (or a flash drive of pictures) of the house, furniture, insured items, etc. for value purposes
Yes, these are critical documents in case of a disaster. Putting together a physical home inventory binder w/ photos (keeping it in the safe) and keeping a digital back-up is what I'd recommend. Separate video :)
When it comes to Deeds and important mortgage paperwork, what do you keep? We have owned 5 homes and I struggle with keeping ALL the paperwork that comes with each one....just in case. What really needs to be kept?
Kathleen - It's hard to answer because it depends on the different types of documents. I have a full list of 132 documents and best practices for how long to keep them (broken down by category) in my Paper Clutter Kickstart class here: www.alejandra.tv/pck
I would add insurance policies, esp life in case someone passes you or ur spouse doesn’t have to dig around for it. Investments too like 401k’s so they have that info as well😀
Misty Thiele In some countries digital copies are not recognized. I would recommend you check depending on where you live. Some documents you can get legalized/official copies for. In the UK, we got two official copies of our marriage certificate. :)

Darloonie what books? U mean closing documents ? Yes, I would add those along with refi’s if applicable and ur homeowners policy, if u have it in paper. I also think it’s wise to have life insurance policies/retirement and anything pertaining to death all together as well. U just never know and who wants to dig around for them to find a number to call to get the policy in motion to pay funeral costs? Not me!
@@lovetodecorate7568 It's called Abstract of Title. It's all the legal documents related to the property. I was given them at closing. If I sell my property I am expected to give them to the new owner. They won't fit in that accordian file or bag she showed.

Why are you wearing orange and also think important things are orange? Is it like important things are orange and not all orange things are important?

organized4 ah that's such a good point! It also made me think of any professional certifications, too. Good idea!!! Thank you!!!
You could take digital pictures or scan them
Lisa Wade I have used a scanner for IDs. Don't know why I didn't think if certificates 😆 that's another great idea. Thank you! 😁👍🏻
You can make copies to frame and save the originals in the "Documents binder".

I don’t know about other tax prep. Companies, but HR block allows you to access your taxes online and print copies.
Hi. I love this idea!! Grab and go!! What labels did you use? I have papers in different places!! Not good!! I ordered the bag already!!
You should put a list of possitions with pictures either in a cloud format or in this sort of thing. If there was a fire, you would be glad you did.
A printout of phone numbers, email and physical addresses in case you can not access your phone in a power outage or a natural disaster
Would you also keep copies of these documents in your normal filing binders/drawer as well as the originals in this portable organiser? Thank you for your great organising tips!
