Lassie - Episode

Lassie and Ranger Corey get to meet another collie, "Lady" when she and her owner stop by the ranger station on their way to a rented cabin. But when the owner's car skids off the snowy road, and Lady takes off, injured, into the wilderness, it is up to Lassie to find her and keep her safe as she is about to deliver a litter of puppies.
TRIVIA: This episode was filmed in black and white, and was obviously slated for Season 11 (which was all filmed in B/W), but didn't make that season's lineup. The fact that it found it's way into the following (color film) season, making it stand out so conspicuously, is interesting. Perhaps it was an episode the producer really liked and wanted it shown despite the change in the series no longer filming in black and white. The collie in this episode appears to be a much older collie - perhaps 12 or 13 years old - and may well have been one of the "stand-ins" for distance shots or action shots in earlier Lassies seasons (maybe even as far back as the Miller family years with Jeff, Ellen, and Gramps. This collie was well trained, and it was nice seeing a veteran doing her/his stuff so professionally. Too bad this one wasn't in color.
